Enrique Gomez Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 23, 2001.
Two of a Kind
In life and in tragedy, Enrique and Jose Gomez were brothers determined to share every moment together. They worked together, slicing vegetables and cleaning seafood, in the kitchen of Windows on the World. At times they lived together. Even when they did not, Enrique 42, and Jose 44, both fathers of teenagers, always made time to dream together, envisioning themselves one day sitting in the stands at Yankee Stadium, just like the people on television, sharing beers and rooting for the boys in pinstripes.

For the Gomez family, there is peace in knowing that the brothers disappeared as they lived. "So many people down there, they had no one," said Maglais Gomez, a niece. "At least Enrique and Jose, they had each other to comfort."

And there is also this: On Sept. 11, Miguel and Ramone Gomez, who also worked in the kitchen with their older brothers, Enrique and Jose, had been scheduled to work, but were not there when the planes hit.

May your families be thankful for the time you shared with them, as we are for the time you spent every day to make our cooking shows possible. God bless you and keep you in the palm of his hand. [email protected]

My boyfriend visited New York 9 months before and instead of sitting in line to go up to the observation deck, him and his buddy went to Windows on the World to get (what they called at the time) an overpriced drink. We're thankful for the receipt as evidence of the presence, and have intentions to put it in a collage frame with our other pictures of the towers. I send my wishes to your family, because you may have been one of the people that my boyfriend interacted with that day, and we talk about that sometimes. May peace be with you and your brother whereever your souls rest.

May the sorrow in your hearts be lightened by the golden memories of the beautiful moments in your lives. We are very sorry for your loss of Enrique and Jose. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
