Irina Buslo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 24, 2001.
A Dream Briefly Realized

A decade ago, Irina Buslo was a teacher in Belarus. But when she moved to New York from Minsk six years ago, she worked as a baby sitter. Later she got a job as a clerk at Banana Republic, but her interest was in learning about computers. A year and a half ago, when she was hired to be an administrative assistant at Fuji Bank in 2 World Trade Center, she was thrilled. She and her roommate, Irina Bobb, celebrated by buying new shoes.

The job meant that she could send more money home to her mother and 13-year-old daughter, who live together in Minsk, and that she was a step closer to bringing her daughter to New York.

Ms. Bobb, a waitress who also immigrated from Minsk, recalled that Ms. Buslo, 32, would send money home to Minsk before she would pay the rent on the two-bedroom apartment they shared in Sunnyside, Queens. "You always think about your relatives, about your daughter," she said. "You could always catch up with rent."

Ms. Buslo, who was divorced from her husband, had studied English and Spanish in college in Minsk in the early 80's, said Ilya Prishepov, a friend who attended with her and later immigrated to the United States. He now owns a construction business in Pawling, N.Y. "She wanted to work in a big company," Mr. Prishepov said. "That is what she did."

Irina was my elementary school's classmate in Minsk, Belarus. She was Irina Frolova at that time. I still remember her beautiful smile, friendliness and white bows. Such a tragegy.

What an incredible story of following your dreams. I pray today for your family and friends. We will never forget that day that snuffed the dreams of so many. Gone, but never forgotten, and your life will always be a great lesson to others. Much love from Texas.

To a soul that departed too soon, to a dear friend who helped me to live again, the night of September 10th 2011 you told me that you had to go into work early because they were threatening to fire you for being late. I remember that look on your face. the morning we said good bye and that was the last I ever say of you. May the good lord keep you safe. Heaven is a much brighter place with you there. you will never be forgotten. love always. SP.

I visited the memorial and it happened to be on my birthday. When I was leaving, I noticed the sign saying flowers signified that days birthday. I was so moved, I wanted to return to find a name to honor on October 28th each year. I just recently found a Irnia's name. So close to my age and with an October 28th birthday. I would like to know a few things about her to honor her on our Birthday this year and in years to come. Any information would be great. Favorite food, drink, color, hobby etc. I see one of her celebration traditions was shoe shopping-which is something we have in common. Family and friends, please feel free to contact me.

I still think of you when I hear Macy Gray on the radio .. remember sitting in a cab driving through the Queens Borough bridge on a snowy night and talking about our hopes and wishes for the future ... eating at the local chicken place with a glass of wine ... talking by the bar at the Beach Cafe, dinners at your place when you took me in while looking for a place of my own ... So many memories ... Miss you!

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
