Phil and I were partners in the the Youth Gang Unit in the NYPD. It was some of my best years in the department. We worked together for four years, besides being a good cop, I will always remember his infectious laugh. He is missed.

Remembering Philip on the 20th anniversary of 9/11...
Matthew Colgate
February 18, 2021
Just looking through some photos of New York from this time last year. The most wonderful experience, made more emotional by our inability to travel at the moment. One photo showed the 9/11 memorial with a white rose in Philip´s name. Happy Birthday for tomorrow. I am sure all your loved ones will be celebrating you and your legacy. I wish I had known you.

I was watching Fox News on September 11, 2015 and saw Philip Calcagno was killed in the attack on 9/11. Having the same family name, I was surprised to see it. I never knew him, but for some reason, I wish I did. I know it has been several years since his death, but I am sure he is still very much missed. Bless you all, Robert J. Calcagno.

As your second Christmas in heaven is approaching, I hope you know that not a day goes by without me thinking of you and everyone else that I knew. There are questions and thoughts that go through my mind that will probably never be answered. Sometimes I want to pick up the phone to call Sue, but I just don't know what to say that hasn't been said before. I hope that somehow you are still with your family.

I never know Philip but on September 11, 2002 my husband received a flag with his name on it. One of the radio stations in the area passed out American flags in remembrance of those who lost they lives on Sept. 11. Each flag had a victims name on it. I have it hanging over my mantle and pray that something like this will never happen again. God Bless!!

Phil, Ihope your post in heaven has
a lot of shade trees. You deserve
a good assignment after the ones the
NYPD gave you. Just to think that
you retired and went to work in a
safe job in an office. I often
think of you on that morning having
a cup of coffee and seeing that plane coming at you. You were always early, why couldn't you be
late for work just once. You didn't
even have time to send out a signal
10-13. When I get there, as my younger cousin, maybe we can ride
in the patrol car together. God
Bless you. Andy

I remember cousin Phillip as a very funny and warm person. I remember always laughing when in his presence. I have very fond memories of him showing Mom and me around Staten Island when I was about 16. He purposly drove us past Fulton Fish Market so we could get the smell of the city!!!
My heart breaks for Sue, Kris, her children and Karen. My thoughts are always with you.
Love,
Cindy

I still find it hard to believe that my cousin, Philip, was lost along with so many others on Sept. 11. He was very dear to me. As a child he was smart and funny and always made me laugh. As adults we were separated by many miles but I knew he was there and we would visit whenever possible. I think of Susie and the girls often and Philip will always be in my heart.

I remember my cousin as a fun-loving man who anyone would trust at first meeting. While we lived far apart for most of our lives, my fondest memory of him was on a trip to our home in Florida in around 1976. I was 11 or 12 and can still remember the picture of me holding his beer and him with a straw hat and rifle hiding behind one of the palm trees on our patio. God bless you and your family cousin Philip!

I am watching the Service for the 1st year commemorating the awful attack on our country.
I thought I heard my surname & came to find this site. I do not know if I was related to this man, but am so upset for all the families who lost a loved one.
I hope the family and friends of this obviously much missed man, will be comforted by knowing that others share in their grief.
I don't think we were related, but I am honored to have shared the family surname of Calcagno. We seem to be around the same age too.
May Your Soul Be Resting Peacefully, Cradled In The Crook Of The Right Arm Of The Lord.

I miss you dearly and I think of you everyday. You made coming to Marsh every morning a little easier because you had such a kind heart and wonderful personality. I loved working with you. I left Marsh in August of 2000 but I will always remember how difficult it was to leave. I enjoyed everyone there. You were one in a million, Phil. God Bless your family.

Phil was my Assistant Manager at Marsh in the Finance Dept in the WTC. I have never worked for a more kind, gentle and respected person before. Phil was a one in a million person who is irreplacable. My heart truly aches for his family. May God Bless them and grant them peace.

I too worked with Phil at Johnson & Higgins in the Accounts Payable Department. It is not an exageration when we all say he was a wonderful caring man. Always lending a helping hand. I was recently looking at some old office photo's,and remembering he gave me some great life advice. And I never got to thank him, so Thank you Phil for just being you. My condolences to his family, he will be missed.

I was very sad to see a Calcagno in the list of victims.Every day we are all touched in one way or another by the tradgedy. Your family will be in our prayers. We will never forget this day! We will never forget the people who died for us! I don't know Phillip, but if he was anything like the Calcagno's here on the west coast he was a very wonderful person. My husband's name is Mark and he loves people and is very giving and kind. Everybody likes him and sounds like Phillip was the same. Maybe sometime we will all meet at a family reunion! Love to you all!!

I knew Phil at Johnson and Higgins prior to my retiring in 1998. I had not seen him since then and was shocked to hear that he was one of those lost.
Phil was very helpful to me in setting up a procedure for tracking shared income with one of our overseas offices for a major client.
It was a special situation and somewhat of a nuisance for Phil, but he was happy to do it. Also, as our departments were next to each other, I would see Phil every day and he always had a friendly hello as I know was the case with those who worked for him.
My sincerest condolences go out to Phil's family in this difficult time.

I know your birthday is only a couple of weeks away. I can't help remembering how you always bought a tray of cookies for someone's birthday. I hope your first birthday in heaven is your best one yet.

Phil and I both worked on the same floor at Johnson & Higgins in the 80's. Phil and a number of us were taking accounting courses at night and we all supported one another as we juggled work and school. I remember Phil's kindness. Today, I recognize I was lucky to have worked with so many good people at J&H.

America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

I just heard the news a few weeks ago and was very upset that a good friend of my past was a victim of the Sept. 11 attack on our country. I haven't seen Phil or his wife Susie for many years, but they were never forgotten. My heart goes out to his family and I will keep them in my prayers. May God protect them and bless them.
Love,

Phil Calcagno falls into the "one of the nicest people in the world" catagory. It's been over three months since he was taken from us, and not a day has gone by when I didn't think of him and wonder what his final seconds/minutes were like. It was an honor to know him and to work under his supervision. I know the void that his loved ones are left with will never be filled.

Dear Phil,
I will never understand what happened on September 11th or why. I do know that if you survived the inital hit you were still in the building because you were helping someone else.
That's how you were to everyone. The help and advice you offered me throught the years gave me guidence and confidence to make the right decisions in my life.
I do not know how I will "get back to normal" when having you as a part of my life was normal.
I loved you like a father, you treated me like a daughter and I will forever miss you. You are always in my prays and forever in my heart.

Reading over the list of people who were in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 I recognize the surname of Calcagno as being one in my family tree, ancestors from Sicily.
The tradgedy in our coutry on September 11 is one that has been really hard for all of us, and one I hope will never ever be repeated.
God be with the survivors, family and friends of the victims.
