Michel Pelletier Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 24, 2001.
Private Language
Since Sept. 11, there's been a mystery in the Pelletier household. "Tigi, tigi, tigi," 2-year-old Sydney says. "Papa said, 'tigi.' "

Her mother doesn't know what it means. It is a private word that Sydney's father, Mike A. Pelletier, made up with her. "They developed all these inside jokes," his wife, Sophie, said. Mrs. Pelletier can relate; she and her husband had a trove of their own private jokes. "He was my laughing buddy," she said.

From the night they met at a Manhattan party, the couple also had their own secret language: French. She came from France via Los Angeles. He was a former professional hockey player from a tight-knit family in Quebec. They fell in love "almost immediately," marrying in 1998 in a tiny glass chapel jutting over the Pacific Ocean.

Mr. Pelletier, 36, commuted from Greenwich, Conn., to work as a commodities broker for Cantor Fitzgerald — "but his priority was his family," his wife said. "He ran home every night to be with us." Now, she aches for the little things. "I miss going to Costco with him," she said. "Everything we did was fun."

Profile published in THE NEW YORK TIMES on December 16, 2001.

MICHEL ADRIAN PELLETIER, 36, of Greenwich, Conn., was a commodities broker for Cantor Fitzgerald. A friend called Pelletier after seeing the World Trade Center attacks on television. "I was telling him things I was seeing on TV which he was relaying to other people in the room," Randy Christ said. "Even at that point it seemed like he was in charge." Pelletier called his wife, Sophie Pelletier, to tell her he was trying to get fellow employees out of the building and that he loved her. "I feel like my heart and soul have been ripped away," she said.

I was at the memorial this week and i took video and this Mikes name stuck out.

Got home and unpacked and my intuition told me to go back to my videos and his name hit me again i had to look it up on goggle.

He was a Hero until the end... This day will always be heavy on my heart. Sending tons of love to the family. I don´t why i had an urge to do this but i´m glad it did.

This is the 20th anniversary. Am hoping this guestbook is still active. We were just wondering if Sophie is aware there s an active., 'Association des Families Pelletier'. here in Quebec. They are active in both French and English, and have lots of American members. My wife, a Pelletier, is a member.
Just wondering if Sophie might find some comfort in that. It is easy to find on the internet.

I only met Michel briefly, albeit in a joyous setting as we all celebrated the new millenium with his wife Sophie's family in California. Who would have guessed in all the laughter and excitement of entering a new century that Michel would be taken so soon thereafter. I think about him every time the traumatic events of september 11, 2001 are mentioned and of course on the anniversary. His children Sydney and Nicolas can be proud of their father who was a great man. Philippe

Michel,

I met Mike when we were 11 years old and had lost contact after we turned 18. A great hockey buddy. Greetings and deep sympathy to Mr & Mrs. Pelletier and family. My sympathy to his wife and kids. He was a great guy and friend. Proud to have known him.

I got hooked on hockey back in the mid eighties and went regularly to watch the Streatham Redskins. As my passion for the game and the club grew , I felt a need and a desire to support the club in other ways rather than merely turning up each week to watch the game.In the 1988/89 season I offered the club accommodation for one of their overseas imports for that year.Tim Lappin and Mike were the new boys on the team , Tim moved in as soon as he arrived in the UK and Mike several weeks later after he became unsettled at the accommodation the club had originally provided for him.We had a great seven or eight months together , Mike looked after Tim who was a little on the lazy side , doing the cooking and washing for both of them.Mike liked to party but was very professional in his approach to the game , never missed a practise and prepared meticulously on game days.Mike treated my house as if it was his own , was always courteous and polite and fun to be with.It was deeply upsetting to learn today that he had lost his life in the tragic events of 9/11. My heart and soul goes out to the family he left behind.

Dear family of the late Mike Pelletier. As you know Mike played for the London based Streatham Redskins in 1989-1990. As a Streatham Redskins fan I remember him very well and always gave one hundred per cent in his game. I am very sorry that in the end things did not quite work out so well with the Redskins. It has really saddened me to find out recently of his passing. I have a photograph of him playing for the Redskins which is going to be posted and entered into our next programme as an obitruary. My thoughts are with you all at this sad time. May he rest in peace.

Psalm 121

A song of ascents.

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills-

where does my help come from?

2 My help comes from the Lord ,

the Maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot slip-

he who watches over you will not slumber;

4 indeed, he who watches over Israel

will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The Lord watches over you-

the Lord is your shade at your right hand;

6 the sun will not harm you by day,

nor the moon by night.

7 The Lord will keep you from all harm-

he will watch over your life;

8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going

both now and forevermore.

Real happiness is not always getting what you desire, but appreciating what you have. Mike was truely a happy person, and his joy was manifested in many ways. No one appreciated life, and life's daily gifts, more enthusiastically than Mike. No one was able to share that enjoyment with others more generously than Mike. No one gave life 100%, and got 100% back in return, more passionately than Mike. No one related to those close to him more openingly than Mike. No one embraced his family more lovingly than Mike. He made life a little more special for all that knew him. Thanks Mike.

Though you're not here anymore to make us laugh, to share your love with Sydney, Nicolas, Sophie and the rest of your family, we're all better people for having known you. In some small way we're more spontaneous, more genuine, and able to enjoy the little things in life, just as you did. Maybe that was your greatest gift.

March 14, 2002

Mike, you have given our family much laughter & lots of wonderful memories. You have touched so many people... Everyday, I get to see you thru Sydney & Nicolas... Their physique, & playful personalities are a mirror of you. They are keeping your laughter alive.

I have faith you are right there by their side watching their latest tricks, (I secretely hold you responsible for their frequent surprise gasy moments!!!)

There aren't words enough to explain the huge gap Mike leaves in the world. But seeing his two children both swells my heart with love and pride, and saddens me enormously knowing he won't get to be the dad he should have been. We, as family, will fill in those gaps as best we can, and always with Mike in our hearts.

We thank Michel for helping others on such a tragic day. May his courage, life, and love live on through his family. We are very sorry for your loss of Michel. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
