Francisco Mancini Obituary
It seemed as if everyone in Astoria knew Frank Mancini. He might as well have been living in a Greek or an Italian village instead of the big city of New York.
He met his future wife, Anastasia, in first grade at Public School 17 in Queens. They went to the prom at Long Island City High School. By the time they were married on May 21, 2000, they considered it their 10th anniversary ‹ of dating. Frank was Spanish and Italian. Anastasia was Greek. They went to Mykonos for their honeymoon. Six feet tall, red- haired, riding a motorcycle and laughing, he stood out.
"Everybody loved Frankie in Astoria," said his doting mother, Lea. "Frankie was No. 1."
Mr. Mancini, 26, had been a laborer with Local 79, his dad's union, since he was 18. When his father retired, Frank continued working construction at the World Trade Center, the only job he had ever known. About two weeks before the plane hit the north tower, he had moved from the basement to the 107th floor.
Mr. Mancini couldn't wait to take his 3- month-old daughter, Sophia, to Disney World. "How old does she have to be?" he asked his wife. "I think we should wait till she's 3 or 4, at least," Anastasia said. He was also planning her wedding.

Don't feel guilty for that smile on your face- You ached for her touch as she did for yours. She is finally with you now frankie- you can hug, kiss and tease your mother just like you use to..but just dont bully her- She is still very fragile.. Dear Frank, You are a hero in my eyes and you were truly a hero to so many of us growing up together in Astoria. You were the one guy in Astoria that everyone "knew", because you had a heart of gold, you would stop and help anyone for any reason, walk a stranger across the street or give directions to someone who looked lost. As a friend, we knew you could be trusted because you only wanted the best for everyone. As a husband and father, I know that Anastasia and Sophia were blessed because you loved them so dearly and treated them like a Queen and a princess. Your dream to take Sophia to Disney was fulfilled - she went with her mommy and your mom and I'm sure you were watching from above. Frank, thank you for being who you were in my life and the lives of so many others. My husband and children know all about you and how much you meant to myself and my sister. Frank Mancini!! A friend of mine for as long as i can remember, from kindergarden thru high school to the poker games in the garage... it is so easy to take life for granted, never taking the opportunity to remind someone just how much they mean to you! no matter how much time passes it seems like just yesterday we were at the card table putting "little heads" in the pot.... or in school wrestling in Mrs Browns class on the verge of getting demoted =) Im sure i speak for everyone who knew you when i say you hold a special place in our hearts now and forever... I was never blessed enough to know Francisco. I was given a candle with his name on it during a remembrance ceremony and researched this wonderful young man on the internet. I grew up in Astoria and did not know Frank, but understand your loss. Its very difficult to lose a young life, and you never get over it. Time does not make it any easier, family and friends do, as they too, share in your grief. I pray that God gives your family strength and courage, and binds you closer together.

For three years now I have wanted to write something in this guest book and just could not find the right words to say. But the other day I was cleaning through my apt and found my LIC year book with Franks and Anastasias picture together and I started to remember how funny Frank was and what a great person he was. I use to see him on and off on Steinway after HS and on the train once in a while. He was a great guy with a big heart and he is still missed. I'm still at a lost for words because what can you say except that my heart goes out to his entire family.
