Michael Massaroli Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 26, 2001.
Avid Bowler and Mets Fan
Tuesday night was his night. Bowling night. Virtually his whole life, Michael Massaroli bowled. As a young boy, he would tag along with his father to the alley and keep score. Once he started knocking down the pins himself, he never stopped.

He lived in Staten Island with his wife, Dianne, and their children, Michael Jr., 6, and Angelina, 6 months.

He bowled once a week from September to May, as a regular in the Tuesday Night Mens Triples league at the Bowling on the Green alley. He maintained an average of about 190, and his constant bowling companion was his best friend, Paul Colletti. They had bowled together since they were 10.

Sept. 11 was a bowling night that didn't happen, and Mr. Colletti has not bowled since then and doesn't know if he ever will again. As a tribute to his friend, the alley has renamed the Tuesday night league the "Mike Massaroli Memorial Triples."

Mr. Massaroli, 38 and a vice president of operations at Cantor Fitzgerald, was also a fanatical Mets fan. His wife estimated that out of 162 games, he would catch — in person, on television or on radio — at least 160.

It was never a good idea to raise the subject of the Yankees. As Mrs. Massaroli put it, "He used to say his two favorite teams were the Mets and whoever was playing against the Yankees."

I just recently visited the 911 memorial and came across Michael Massaroli´s name Among the other fallen angels. I wanted to look him up to see who he was. I´m devastated this happened and the fact that we lost so many lives on that day. May he rest in peace and just know that we will never forget.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Massaroli. Every year at this time I make a point to read about the lives of those we lost that terrible day. As a father I grieve for all the opportunities that were stolen from the Massaroli family, and in some small way wanted to recognize and acknowledge the life of Mr. Massaroli. PS anyone who dislikes the Yankees as a matter of course gets a thumbs up from me. Best, Geoff Kirwan, Toronto

Our thoughts of deep sympathy we send to your family. Words will never remove the pain but they show that others still do care about such a sad loss. Michael is sadly missed.

Michael, I mostly remember you as a quiet little boy living on 73rd Street. You were always kind and courteous and that image of you remains with me. You grew up to be a fine young man and I am glad that I knew you. I just wanted you to know that I think of you frequently, I think of your mom and sister, and although I never had the pleasure of meeting your wife and children, I think of them as well. My heart goes out to all of them, since I know the same pain of loss. You and your family are in my prayers.

I remember an alert, handsome and shy little guy who was the first one on my line in the 2nd grade at P.S. 186. I just couldn't help it..I had to pinch his cheeks and take him around! I know that he probably wanted to run away every time!

Michael dear..I am so proud of the life that you made for yourself. I know that you are looking down on your family and watching over them. May you rest in peace!

On the anniversary of September 11th, the St. Frances Chapel put up a memorial wall with all of the names of the victims. All that worship at the chapel were asked to take a name and to pray for that person and their families throughout this coming year. I chose Michael Massaroli. I decided to find out more information about the person I would be praying for. By reading all of the entries that were written in Michael's memory, I can see what a wonderful person he was and what he meant to all of his family and friends. I will keep Michael in my prayers and I will also pray for his wife and children. My heart goes out to his family for their tremendous loss. May God Bless You. Donna Rodriguez

Dear Diane, I don't know if you remember me but I will always remember Michael. I was a teller in Fleet Bank in Great Kills. He regularly would come in to do his banking and we all knew about his love for the Mets. All of the tellers were Yankee fans. We loved to tease him, especially when he wore his Mets cap in on the weekend. He was a great guy. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him . May God Bless you and the children. My thoughts and prayers have been with you since Sept. 11. As we approach the 1 year anniversary I want you to know I will always think of Michael with that Mets cap on and his shy grin, and smile . I will always think of you and the children, if not every day then every year on Sept. 11 and wish you every blessing God has to offer. Take care.... Love always, Barbara Morey ( formerly of S.I.) Father we entrust our brother Michael to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.

My wonderful brother Michael - how lucky I was to have such a brother. He was everything and more to me. When I lost him on that terrible day, a piece of me was also lost. That piece will be missing for all the days of my life. The hole in my heart cannot be repaired, but I pray that we have the strength to continue on and hold fast onto the memories of him. I love you and miss you so much Michael. You are always with me.

My deepest sympathy to all of you. Michael went to PS 186 with my son Michael and I remember your Michael very well. Please find comfort in the fact that Michael is always with you. Every time you look in the faces of his children, you will see Michael and know that he is smiling down on you and protecting you. May God be with always.

We are deeply sorry for your loss of Michael. May his life and love continue on through his son and all who love him. May you feel his warmth and love wrap around your hearts to ease your pain. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
