Even though we were occupied with Hurricane Irma and lost power most of the day - You were on my mind the whole day. You and the rest of the heros who lost their lives that day. It is hard to believe it has been so long. It seems like yesterday. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your whole family. I have always considered your family as a part of mine. It was 2013, but I had the honor of climbing the stair climb at Red Rocks in Colorado in honor of this hero. I would have left a note before, but I did not know there was a way to do so, now that I know, I figured it appropriate on this 15th anniversary.
Never, never forgotten. RIP Sir.

I have visited the 9/11 museum and memorial today from the UK. A cousin of mine from Ireland, Pauline Hunter, gave me Joseph's name before I left for New York. He was a cousin of her husband. I took great pride today spending time looking for Jospeh's name at the reflection pools and reviewing his profile at the museum. Our trip to the memorial was special and touched our hearts as we had stayed at the hotel at the WTC just a couple of years before 9/11. Bringing our children today was to give them an understanding of why our world has changed in their time and to reflect on those whose lives were taken on 9/11 and of those who continue to be taken around the world to this day. We thank young men like Joseph for giving his life to save others. With love to Joseph's family . Nicqui Chatterley xxxx

Thank you for your courage and loyalty on that fateful day, 9/11. There are no words to say to your family and friends who loved you dearly. Thinking of Joe everyday. HHunter, my explosive detection K9, named after Joe, is a true work horse. He can not wait to get into his truck and head off to work at LAX airport. Tomorrow it will have been 5 months since my firefighter husband, Pat, climbed the Milwaukee 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. Pat had the honor of wearing a badge with Joe's picture on it over his heart. What a privilege it was to be able to stand there and watch as Pat completed all of the floors in Joe's honor. When he started the Climb and when he finished - he rang a bell and proudly stated "Joe's" name. Please know that Joe is being remembered and honored and many prayers continue to go out for his family and friends. He is a hero to all. If you would like some pictures of this climb, please feel free to contact me.

As I sit in my living room, I am consumed with the memory of 9/11. While watching a film on The History Channel, I am in awe of the heros I see before me... Marching toward the WTC with a load heavier than the hoses they carry. One brave man stands out to me, he stops and looks up in silent astonishment at what he sees above him, so high, so powerful and bravely he focus's ahead and continues on.. Headed in the direction everyone else is trying to escape- with his men by his side I am in awe of him, he captivated me with the hero within.. A hero, a man.. one of the bravest faces I will ever see and never forget.. His name is Joseph Hunter, Bless you... - Paige

Dear Hunter family,
I am so sorry for your loss of Joseph, as a result of the terrible tragedy of 9/11.My class is writing to all of the victims. We are from long Island, New York. I read about Joseph's life in the Newsday column and wanted to tell you that he has become my hero. He has inspired me to follow my dream, as he followed his of becoming a Fireman. May you treasure his helmet found at the site and know that he will always be considered a hero to so many people.

Dear Hunter family,
I live in New York. I read about your loss and I am really touched. It was really cool how you found his helmet. Also it was awesome that when he was only three years old he knew what he wanted to be. From what i read, he was so confident when he told his friends to go home. I am so sorry about your loss.
Best wishes,

Joe Hunter was always a very special person. He was a 3rd grade student in my first year as a teacher at Covert Elementary School in South Hempstead.
(Joe is the handsome boy in the top row wearing the jacket and tie for picture day.)
Joe was a kind, compassionate, smart, respectful and humble young boy. Goodness was in his soul and even at eight years old you knew he was and would continue to be a person of character. A class act in every sense of the phrase. Joe always volunteered to help anyone in need. He and his best friend Chris Hill (top row standing next to me) stayed after school and helped me straighten up our classroom, cleaning the blackboard, clapping erasers or whatever needed to be done. Joe was generous in spirit to everyone he met. He did not like to see others in pain and never had an unkind word to say about anyone.
Over the years I would hear about my former student – all good things of course. The young boy of character grew into a young man of substance who lived his dream of helping others. I was not surprised that Joe became a firefighter protecting lives. Something he knew he was born to do. It broke my heart when I heard the news that Joe lost his life in the 9/11 tragedy. His memorial service at St. Agnes Cathedral was packed with mourners who grieved the life cut way too short.
I often walk to the beautiful memorial for Joe at the South Hempstead Fire House. I stop and think of Joe and smile - for a life well led. I also think of his Mom and Dad, two incredibly humble and giving people who gave Joe the values and character he brought to life.
Jessie and Joe, you must be so proud of your beautiful son, Joe. He led a meaningful life that touched many lives. He lived his life with dignity and grace in service to his fellow man and country. He is sorely missed.

We are a fellow firefighter family in Colorado. Today we participated in the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. Firefighters and their families from all over Colorado joined with thousands of others, climbing the equivalent of 110 floors of stairs at Red Rocks Ampitheater in Denver. I had the honor of wearing a nametag honoring Joseph. It was such a privelege. Today, he was remembered and honored and many prayers went out for his family and friends. He is a hero.

To the Hunters, I think about your son every day, as I call out your last name all day long. HHunter seek! Every time I say it, it is to get the Explosive K9 assigned to me, named after your son, to search for explosives in cargo going on passenger airplanes.
