Nicholas Rossomando Obituary
He loved karate and he was good at it. His karate teacher, Dr. Gene Isola, speaks in awe about one of Nicholas Rossomando's feats: he put a six- inch pile of wood on two cinder blocks and then smashed the pile with his fist. "He hit it so hard that he also broke the cinder blocks on one side," Dr. Isola said. "We have it on film. The guy was built like a steel tank."
That feat, Dr. Isola said, exemplified the gusto that was Nicholas Rossomando. He loved working as a firefighter. He loved to cook ‹ for his girlfriend, for his parents, for his buddies at Rescue Company 5. He loved carpentry; as a volunteer he built 80 percent of the interior of the karate school.
"He had an overwhelming enthusiasm about life, not just 100 percent, but 1,000 percent," Dr. Isola said. "From the way he smiled and hugged you, to the way he made a meal, to the way he did martial arts, it was done with enthusiasm and passion. There was no halfway with Nicky."
"At the karate school," Dr. Isola continued, "everyone had nicknames. There was Crazy Eye Joe, Jazzy Jeff, but Nicky's nickname was Nicky Love."

I saw this beautiful man on a 9/11 Memorial documentary today. His name was rightfully singled out by a firefighter who knew, worked with, and loved him. After learning more about this hero today, I can certainly understand the love, loyalty, and joy he inspired in others. Thank you for your sacrifices, young man.
How loved you were, and are, still. My thoughts are with all your family, and loved ones today.

I purchased the memberance bracelet for Nicholas in 2012. In myself was a firefighter locally at the time. My heart was and still is filled with sorrow but also pride for him and his family. I live in WV and every year on 9-11 I still wear the bracelet. It stays in my purse woth me at all times. I did not know him personally but respect and honor him and all those who lost their lives that day.

15 years after this tragedy I am just now learning of Nick's passing. I went to school with Nick at P.S 26 from kindergarten. He was my buddy. I will always remember him as beautiful and funny kid. I was so happy to see the scholarship fund created in his name and will be honored to make a donation. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and close friends.

As a firefighter from the west coast, like many I flew out to NYC after the 9/11 disaster to help out wherever possible. We attended Nicholas's memorial and to this day I am saddened by his story (and others' of course). All 343 names are on the wall in our beanery, and I read Nick's name every time I sit down. I hope the friend's and family of Nicholas are slowly finding peace with his passing...

Nick, I never met you but on the one year anniversary I attended a memorial service in Chicago and picked your name along with three others who were lost. Tammi~ I just wanted to let you know that 11 years ago when I went through the list of people who had lost thier lives on this horrible day for some reason Nicks picture just stood out. When I read your post I knew why. I too had lost the love of my life and knew just how she felt. The pain you feel is undescribable it physically makes your heart hurt.I know you lost a part of yourself that day and your world just wasn't as bright.I know there were days it took all the strength you had to get out of bed. I hope for you as for me over time it doesn't hurt as much and I have realized that his passing makes me the stronger person I am today.
I have often wondered about you Tammi and hope you have had some peace. The love of my life has been gone 23 years now. I still miss always and love him forever but I know God had a different plan for he and I. I am thankful that he watches over me everyday of my life and I am sure that is what Nicky does for you Tammi. So God bless and know people out there still send blessing and well wishes to you and his family. Several weeks after 9/11, while attending Mass, I was given the opportunity to choose the name of a person killed in the attack. I chose Nicholas's name and have been praying for him and his family ever since. What a blessing to have had such a caring young man in our world even for a short time.
