Vivian Casalduc Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 3, 2001.
The Hard Way to Learning
Vivian Casalduc lived to make her family's eyes light up. Each December, she would bake gingerbread for a giant candy land, where the ground was coated with thick piles of shredded coconut (snow) and the houses were studded with lollipops and licorice. "She would make it the first two days in December and let everybody look at it all month long, and on Christmas morning, she'd let everyone ransack it," said her daughter Angilic Casalduc.

Five small grandchildren spent alternate weekends in her care, and would come home with cotton candy in a kaleidoscope of colors and shapes. Turns out, Grandma had bought a cotton candy machine.

A Brooklyn native who grew up in housing projects, Ms. Casalduc, 45, married at 16, had three children and divorced. Her job as a microfiche clerk at Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield moved two years ago from Brooklyn to the 28th floor of 1 World Trade Center. Her commute was longer, but the salsa concerts downstairs became a part of her lunchtime routine.

Ms. Casalduc left one prescient lesson, her daughter said: "Do everything the hard way." Why major in one subject when four would do, or take a taxi when public transportation was there? "Do it the easy way," Angilic Casalduc remembered, "and you'll never learn anything, and God forbid, anything happens, she worried we wouldn't know how to survive."

I went to the Healing Field in Prescott Valley, AZ on September 11, 2017. I was walking around with my dog and my parents and I noticed a flag that was crooked. Someone had bumped into it, I guess, and knocked it somewhat over so it was totally tilting. I went over and straightened it up and stuck it back in the ground so it looked proper again. The name on the flag's card was Vivian Casalduc. I memorized her name. It felt important. I never met Vivian, but I am so sorry she died in 9/11. My condolences to her family and friends. I hope she is at peace.

To give respect and honor and to never forget 911, I ran a 5K race today. At the end of the race, each runner chose a name to remember; I chose Vivian. Vivian was the first female nameplace I saw and it just stood out and blessed my heart. I placed the flag on her name and wept. Today, this race was for you Vivian Casalduc. The Sacramento Bee took pictures and asked me whom I chose; I believe Vivian's name will be in the Sacramento Bee this week. She is remembered here on the west coast. Much respect and love to Vivian and her family. "I'll never do anything easy again." :)

To The Family,
Although it's been close to eleven years it seems like a short time ago that the horrific day of 9/11 pained and stunned America. I did not know Ms. Vivian Casalduc but that really does not matter. Simply because 9/11 is one of the saddest days of my 58 years and I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to you in the loss of your loved one. It may sound unbelievable but the Son of the Almighty God promised to bring righteous dead persons back to life on a paradise earth. When Ms. Casaulduc wakes up she will not have to worry about evil terrorists because they will not be.

Sincerely,
Mr. Terry of NC

Our thoughts and prayers go out to your family and friends! Much love from Texas!

I started working at EBCBS in April 2000 and Vivian was the one who trained me and was always there to help me. Almost 10 yrs have passed and I want her family to know that she is still remembered by myself and many at EBCBS. The last time I saw Vivian was on Monday, September 10, 2001 at approx 4:28 pm. I had gone to her floor to deliver something and saw her from afar and she waved at me and smiled. I will never forget everything she did for me. Miss ya, Vivian!

I have always missed you..

On the day I received the call, I was devastated. I thought of your children and grandchildren and how they would miss you. I also thought of how I was losing another family member.

On the third day of this devastating tragedy of 911. You came to me in a dream. I was on your old block and I saw you. I said “Viv what are you doing here” and you said “I’m looking for Cuco.”

I said “I’ll come with you” and you said “no, I’ll be ok”.
You walked away half way down the street he appeared next to you.
Hand in hand, you were both walking and looking back
and waving at me. It’s then I knew you were gone.

I will always miss you.
Your sister in law,
Marie Casalduc-Melendez

Love, Love, Love it is one of life's most funniest words. Days, weeks, months and years are blowing by. Our children are growing and I still cry. My Angel, my best Friend, my Mommy why.... I try my best just to read and quietly thank everyone for leaving a quick note or just visiting your page. But for some reason I felt I should write. These pages are not long enough and my hands are still not strong enough to write what i would like. But for now, I just wanted you to know as I am sure you already do, That we are still missing you. there is not a day that goes by that you are not on my mind,I hear your voice and feel you smile, funny right! But I guess that is your way of kissing my wounds to make me forget the pain even if it just for a minute..... love you Ma!

She always had love in her voice when talking about her children and grandchildren. God bless you all.

I wanted to extend my sympathy to Vivian's family. Though time has passed I know that the pain does not. If this is any means of easing your pain, may you know that I remember Vivian when she worked for the dentist and she had a means of making you feel more at ease before you hit that dentist chair. She made me laugh and she gave me comfort.I saw her memorial posted on the wall at the office, and was stunned to see that such time had passed before I had known she was also another vitim of this terrible attack. May you and your family know that you are all in my prayers, and that if she made me smile while in my fears, then I know she was the happiness of your lives.I am glad that you had her.. and know that she instilled her love in all her family.Blessings

I am very sorry about her tragic death. I have worked alongside her in the company for more than 13 years until recently from Manhattan to Brooklyn. When I left in December 1997, I occasionally called Vivian at her new posting at the World Trade Center. Occasionally, she called me at home as I found a new career. She was an excelent friend who aided me whenever I had a problem and was a great listener. I hope and I pray that she will be remebered and not forgotten.

God bless her family, particularly her children and grandchildren as well as friends who miss her so dearly. I hope she will find peace and tranquility in heaven.

"I said to a man who stood at the gate of the year. 'Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown,' and he replied, 'Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be to you better than a light and safer than a known way!"

It's by someone called M. Louise Haskins, and I have it as coming from a work called "The Desert."

Thank you.

Vivian was a really nice person. She always said hello and always with a smile. She was a good mother and a special grandmother. I remember the cakes that she use to bake for special occasions. The last time that I hung out with Vivian was at her grandson CJ's first birthday party. I had made the potato salad and she loved it. She followed me around all evening asking me for the recipe and I wouldn't give it to her. Now I wish that I had. But now that she is in heaven, she knows the recipe. Now every time that I make potato salad, I think of her. I miss seeing her in the neighborhood. May God keep her in his arms forever and may her family know that she will be missed. She is our angel in heaven.

Wow, the gingerbread houses sound so magical and then to be able to tear into them would be fun. Such a warm memory of your mom and Christmas. Her lunch hour salsa concerts sound like fun too. May Vivian's gingerbread houses, her salsa concerts, her life and love continue living through those who love her. We are deeply sorry for your loss. May warm memories of times shared with Vivian lighten the sorrow in your hearts. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

Vivian was one of the nicest people to work with! The first time I met her, I think was back in 1991 or 1992 and instantly liked her! She always had an optimistic look on everything and it was heartwarming to know someone as funny and kind as her! She is in my prayers everyday and I feel she is in heaven now making everyone laugh and enjoying themselves!
