Steven Berger Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 5, 2001.
Reader of Encyclopedias
Steven H. Berger may have seemed daunting to some people. He was a supervisor of corporate tax auditors at the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. On top of that, he knew a little about everything. His wife Susan says he always got the answers right on "Jeopardy" and "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire."

To Ms. Berger, her husband was a good man who enjoyed the everyday things of life.

Mr. Berger, 45, was a big reader of encyclopedias when he was not rooting for the Dallas Cowboys or working on his cooking. At the office he was known as Emeril, a reference to the well-known Food Channel chef. He was ribbed for taking his leftovers to work.

He pampered his daughter, Melissa, 12, and they did many things together, including raking leaves and shoveling the snow. He was also the repairman around their New Jersey home.

Mr. Berger also loved his job. He spent almost four hours a day getting to and from his job at the World Trade Center, his wife said, who is an auditor for New York city. "He was pleased by little things," his wife said. "He did not need any of the big things that some people do. He loved working in the Trade Center. He had the view of the city."

To The Family,
It's been almost 10 1/2 years but 9/11 is a day that still pains our hearts very much. One can only imagine the pain that you feel when this day is even mentioned. May you be comforted to know that others care and hope that God somehow brings genuine comfort to you through His Word the Bible which tells how the Almighty will bring comfort to all of us when He brings an end to death, pain, sorrow, and brings righteous dead ones back to life with the opportunity of living forever.

Sincerely,
Mr. Terry of NC

Dear Susan, Melissa, Janet & family,
Tomorrow will mark the 10th year Anniversary of September 11th.
Through the years I have, so
very often, thought of all
of you and tomorrow is no
exception. There are no
words that can ever be
enough. It is only the
love in all our hearts
and souls that will
always be living on
forever....
Love,
Susan from Connecticut

Dear Susan, Melissa, Janet & family,
Many thoughts & now many years later you are still so often in my thoughts and prayers. It is that day in 2001 that there was not one bird in the sky and may we never experience that type of tranquility throughout our country again....only the peace that God and His angels can give you, your family & so many others forevermore.
Love,
Susan from Connecticut

To the Berger family:
May the consoling words from family and friends continue to strengthen you during this difficult time, and may you find comfort in the words found in the Holy Scriptures: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."

May the wonderful memories of your loved one continue to provide a measure of comfort to you--until God's promises are fulfilled. Matthew 5:5; Psalms 37:11, 29

May Steven's thirst for knowledge, his life and love live on in those who love him. May the sorrow in your hearts be lightened by golden memories of times together. We are very sorry for your loss of Steven. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
