Nicholas Bogdan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 5, 2001.
With a Protective Side
Nicholas A. Bogdan had an idea of his perfect wife. "She had to like computer games, she had to like to read, she had to be interested in Dungeons and Dragons, and she had to be single," said the woman who eventually filled out the ticket. "I had everything on the list except the single part, so he set about to make that happen."

It was 1989. He'd come by as her shift ended at Roy Rogers in Hightstown, N.J. He'd tell her how great she was and how she ought to get out of her bad relationship and go out with him instead.

On their first date, his protective side showed in the Dungeons. When her band of adventurers met monsters, he announced that her character was stuck in a locked room.

"I said, `Look, I'm your girlfriend in real life, not in the game. Let me have some fun, too,' " she recalled.

She became Dorothy Bogdan in 1997. He was 34 last year, a computer operator for Marsh & McLennan. They had two children.

Nick, I've never met you but by reading everything others has put, I can tell that you were a kind hearted man. I chose your name this year to share your memory with others so that we're not just remembering a day, we're remembering those who never made it home. I would like to share your story so that you live on in the minds of even those who has never met you. Fly high my friend. God bless you and your family. 9-11-2019

I like to write here about his time every year but I think of Nick often. This year, I wish to submit a quite from a man both Nick and I respected. He is a fictional character, but those that were like Nick and I will get the reference:

Nick. you will always be one of the best friends I ever had. We were among the first to see Return of the Jedi together in 1983. We waited for hours together, reading, playing chess and just talking. After the movie we made a pact that if there was ever another star wars movie, we would see it together. We kept that promise. I met your wife and son and you met my wife then. you passed away shortly after that. I think of you when ever I think of what a good friend should be. I saw Star Wars episode 3 alone. There was an empty seat next to me that you filled, that was my own memorial service to you. Rest in peace my brother.

I'm not an important person, I'm just a kid in Nashville, Arkansas, who has something to say.
Nicholas A. Bogdan. A man I never had the distinct pleasure of meeting online or in person, but I wish I could've. He was a man who played D&D and computer games, much like myself. I would've had much in common with him, and perhaps even could've been friends. Or, perhaps, party members.
To his family of which I hope to sympathize with, maybe even Dorothy - I'm so, so sorry for your loss. He appeared to have been an amazing person from what I've heard and read, and the loss was tragic.

Sincere apologies,
Chance Hartness

When Pearl Harbor happened, America made sure that the responsible country felt our wrath. I don't know if dropping the bombs on their cities was any different to those people than our 9/11. Women, children, schools, everything. The acts that we the people are responsible for define our nation. The responses that we the people give after such tragedies is why they don't often repeat their mistakes. I will never forgive or forget what happened. I am comforted by our united resolve to put an end to the responsible people, I just hope we don't become the terrorists ourselves. Nick you are worth more to all of us than any act of revenge could possibly hope to pay for. The world is a meaner place without you in it. I hope we see each other again someday and I'll bring my d-20.

I googled a name today, was nowhere close to Nicholas Bogdan and had nothing to do with 9/11; nonetheless, I came across a list of people who died on 9/11. I came across the name 'Nicholas Bogdan' and was immediately saddened. I went to grade school with Nicky. He was a very shy, quiet boy and while I did not know what became of him after grade school, I have often thought about him. Always wondered if that shy, quiet little boy came out of his shell. It appears that he did and had many, many people that loved him. To his family and loved ones, my deepest condolences. To Nicky, Rest In Peace.

West Des Moines, IA created the Healing Fields in which a flag flew in honor of all of the victims of that horrible day. Each flag, has attached, a yellow ribbon with the name of a person who lost their lives. A person could purchase one of the flags and ribbons, and my family got the flag in honor of Nicholas. It has been a real honor to read about him, and with the flag and ribbon, it brings to the forefront how important each person was that day. Again, it has been an honor to get tho know him by just learning his name.

Though

I don't know Nick, I actually knew his parents (sorta). My mother and

his parents knew each other online and met in St. Louis at an internet

party. I just remembered we had wheelchair races with his mother. I

used one of the hotel carts to join the race. I was stunned to hear when my

mom called a few years back and told me that their son was in the

towers. Though I never met him and it is indirect, he was the only

person I had any connection with on the day. He seemed like a wondeful

person who loved life to the fullest, much like his parents when I met

them 10 years back. I'm saddened for his family, but happy that he has

reunited with his parents up in heaven. God bless.

While watching the news this morning, the anchorman informed us that the terrorists are planning yet another attack. I'm not scared. I don't think you were either. We're all stuck with applified memories of your big hugs and long chuckles. At least they said your name right this year. I've told everyone out here about you. I started long before 9/11. Nick, I've watched on television all the rememberances, all the tributes, and endured the moments of silence. I think if you had a moment it would not be one of silence. Your family, SCA friends, coworkers, neighbors, gamer buddies, and everyone else will never forget your warrior spirit. I've read some things your wife has wrote about her life now and little Nick's life now, and wept for their loss above my own. I'm motivated by your very image on this screen and know you would approve of the love we all have for you and your family. I'm very far away from NJ now. Wish I was closer and still could speak to Dorothy and see Nick grow in your image. I watched Heavy Metal last month and smiled because of you. The very reason I laugh at the right moment in Conan. Still a gamer in love with the fantasy worlds you helped create in my mind, corrupting as many as I can. Smiling as you once did, behind the DM's screen, as they blunder blindly forward into the next trap. Miss you man, really do.

Nicholas,

Without ever having seen your face or known you personally, I named my 2nd-born son in your honor on March 8, 2002. On this day, September 11, 2003, I have finally put your face with the name. To my surprise my son shares some of your features. He is dark-haired and has the build of a good linebacker. I hope that you are resting in peace and I will tell my son someday all about his name. God bless you and your family that you have left behind.

Nick - gone but not forgotten! On this second anniversary we we wanted to let you know that we think of you often. We still see your family at times throughout the year, and you'd be proud of what a pillar of strength that Dorothy is! Your children reflect your smiles and we can see how you are still with them in spirit. Until we meet again my friend - Jamie, Tom, Sarah, & Tommy Simpson

Nick,

As members of the Hightstown High Class of '85 it was a priviledge to know you and spend time with you. You were the best arm wrestler I ever saw and you had a great love of technology. I wish you well and look forward to seeing you again on the other side. God bless you.

Nick had the kindest eyes. Behind those glasses I can see the spirit of a sweet person.

We need more good people like that in our lives. I hope for your family that healing comes and I know Nicks memory will always live on. Thank you for a glimpse into Nicks life. He was a special person,, I can tell.

May God Bless you and the ones that you left behind on 9/11/01. I did not know anyone who passed away on that horrible day, but it hurts to see all of the faces and know that there are many poeple in pain because of hate. Rest in peace..........
