Robert Campbell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 8, 2001.
Painter in the Clouds
He felt he worked on top of the world. Some days, the clouds would just pass right through him.

Robert A. Campbell was a painter, and he was assigned to the top of the World Trade Center. He found it so tranquil up there, far removed from life's struggles. He was employed by Fine Painting and Decorating. He had been doing the observation deck and the window-cleaning equipment. On Sept. 11, his parents believe, he was on the roof.

Mr. Campbell, 25, lived with his parents, Robert and Maureen Campbell, in Brooklyn, and he was an insistent idealist. When he was a Cub Scout, he was picked to speak at a meeting of labor leaders, and he spoke of how important it was to get along with others and to be helpful. Some day, he said, maybe he would end up being the president of a labor union. "He believed in the American dream — that everybody had a chance in life and that if you worked together you could really accomplish something," his mother said.

He enjoyed long rides in the country, where he could gaze at the trees. He kept hundreds of pictures of trees. To his parents, they looked alike; he would point out the differences.

He had begun college in the evenings to study business administration. He thought he might move into the management of a painting company. His first day of classes was Sept. 10.

Although we did not know him personally, he lives
on through the family that he has left behind. We see their warm and generous nature, and we are saddened that we didn't get to know Robert ourselves. Yet we are soliced that Robert is larger than life as he learn to know and love him through the remembrances of his family. 9/11/11

Rob - It's me Rob Allen your cousin; thinking about you like I do quite often. Funny thing is that we didn't see one another that often beacuse our family is so big! When I was with the NYPD I occassionally saw your Dad at work. There is an awesome photo of you at work, on the roof of one of the towers, with the entire city behind you. You really were on top of the world! Not a day goes by that I don't recall how I wish I could have found you, alive, that weekend when I was in the pile. We miss you. God bless you and your family. Rest in peace.

I was a friend of Rob's for many years. He was truly and honestly an amazing person all around. He was fun, caring, responsible and always had a smile on his face. It was rare you would see him angry.

And the little kids loved him, He had as much energy as they did !!

We would always wonder where he got the energy from. Now we know, it was simply his love of life.

We love you Robert and until we meet again, God Bless You !

I remember that day all too well and whenever I think of it and all those that lost their lives, it makes my heart ache for their family and loved ones. Robert sounded like a wonderful person. How proud you all must be, knowing he was doing something he loved to do, and brought such happiness to those around him. God Bless You Always.

To Rob's family..

I just found this link, funny how u can cry over someone u actually never met. I met Rob online a few years ago and have always enjoyed talking to him he could always make me laugh. A few weeks prior to 9/11 he sent me a pic of himself online telling me it was from the WTC and I was amazed how high it was. Being from Michigan I have never been to NY to see the towers. I like everyone else was at a loss when I heard about the crashes later that day I thought about the picture and about Rob. After I didn't see him on for awhile I wrote and his brother responded, and told me he was missing I sat and cried and prayed for someone I never met but that someone was a very special and caring person. I am so sorry for your loss and pray for Rob and your family frequently. May God rest his soul. Sometimes I wonder if he is painting the clouds or the sunsets from heaven for us to see.

I WAS ROB"S BOSS AT THE WORLD TRADE CENTER. I REMEMBER CALLING HIM UP AND ASKING HIM IF HE WANTED TO WORK AND ALWAYS SAID YES. HE WAS A GREAT YOUNG MAN WITH A BIG HEART. HE LOVED TO WORK AT THE TRADE CENTER,HE USED TO COME TO WORK HAPPY AND CHEERFUL WITH A SMILE ON HIS FACE. HE WAS THE TYPE OF GUY WHO WOULD BE THERE WHEN YOU NEEDED HIM. I THINK ABOUT HIM EVERYDAY.

To The Campbell Family:

I am deeply sorry for your loss. I went to P.S. 205 with Robert, in fact I remember the whole family from the neighborhood. Whether it was school playin in P.S. 205 schoolyard Robert was a real cool guy. As you get older you drift from friends and aquintances, I guess you just get older. Life throws us so many curveballs and sometimes we just are not prepared. I guess in the thick of it all we truely forget that life no matter how long it last is beautiful and somehow we are all connected. I am sure Robert gave everyone that feeling.

Take Care

We are very sorry for your loss of Robert. May his life and love live on in you. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
