Efrain Romero Obituary

A Lifetime of Building
Some people like to build things as a hobby. Efrain Franco Romero built, repaired and renovated things as a way of life.

He built a pond in the backyard of the house in Hazleton, Pa., where his family lives, along with a balcony. In the weeks leading up to Sept. 11, he was in the process of building a garage, said his son, Frank Jr. He would work on it when he came home on the weekends from his job at Fine Painting, in the World Trade Center.

"You name it and he did it. My father is definitely the jack of all trades and master of anything you can imagine," Mr. Romero said. He recalled that the pond his father built started out as a minor project to set up a small water fountain, the kind found at any Wal-Mart; that fountain became a pond with a waterfall and populated by small fish.

"He made modifications to our hedge clipper, to the point that I couldn't use it anymore," Mr. Romero said. "It was so powerful it would shake out of my hand."

His father, who was 57, was always a fixer-upper, he said. "As far as I know, he's been doing this since he was old enough to pick up a hammer."

Dear Mrs. Romero and Family:

I am your former neighbor, across the alley from your home in Hazleton. We rented our house and now stay in Bayonne, full time. My little girl Laurel and I watched the towers burning from here in Bayonne, and thought of Frank. How kind he was to Laurel! Showing her his goldfish pond and garden. My heart breaks for you.

Sincerely,

Maria Jacketti, Ph.D.

This goes out to Frank his son. I worked with Frank Jr. at a local call center and he was just as amazing as his father. He was a hard worker and knew his stuff. When I had a technical issue I sometimes went to Frank. I just wanted to let him know that I am still thinking of him and pray he and his family find peace in their lives. Frank I just want you to know that my heart goes out to you and your family. I'll pray and lite a candle for you and your father. By the reading of the tribute-you should be very proud of your father. Which I'm sure you are. Love,(The Redhead in billing).

The tribute to Uncle (Frank) defined him perfectly. When we lived with him he would come straight home from work and just look for something that needed fixing or creating. He had happy eyes and a huge smile - my best memory of uncle is when me, my brother and sister were lying down to sleep and we heard footsteps...it was uncle. He had a puppy, later to be named Tiger. He said the puppy was scared and he needed us to take care of it, then he left Tiger with us and went upstairs. It does not sound like much but to us it is a memory that

we will not forget. I wish i could have seen him more recent and told him he was great to have around but i am sure that he knows that now.

Uncle you will be missed and thought of often, you were loyal, brave, funny and unforgetable!

I don't know where to start I have searched high and low to put my thoughts on something like this. When sept. 11 happened you were the first person me and my dulce thought of, but we thought you would have made it out because were such strong man, and the fact that you made it out when it was bomb last time, and you help people get out that time. I was told you were brave yet again and tried to help people,I have cried many tears and prayed for you uncle u brought alot of people great joy in there lifes with your donald duck voice, knocking on the walls to see what you were going to do next paint it or knock it down and as frankie said you were always fixing things painting at Delaware Ave. and all those parties you have had in Delaware.

I will NEVER forget you uncle

Father we entrust our brother Efrain to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.

I just wanted you to know that I visited Efrain's tribute. My family also lost on Sept. 11. I know that healing has hardly begun, but I will pray for your family with mine for as long as it takes.

It sounds like Efrain was extremely talented. The pond sounds like it would reflect the calmness and beauty his heart held. May you always be filled with peace and his love when you sit beside the pond he made. We are deeply sorry for your loss of Efrain. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
