Charles Laurencin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 9, 2001.
Broadening Minds

Charles A. Laurencin's idea of a vacation was buying a van and rounding up his wife, Barbara, and their four daughters and one son, as he did for one cross-country adventure in 1987. He made so many stops along the way that it took them a full three weeks to reach California. "My dad was rich in culture," recalled his youngest daughter, Birther. "He always wanted to broaden our minds and our horizons."

Mr. Laurencin, 61, was an immigrant from St. Lucia who later saved lives as an Air Force medic in Vietnam. He started his own business designing and making fire sprinklers, and put all his children through college before retiring.

Two years ago, he took a job as a security guard at Morgan Stanley in 2 World Trade Center to save enough money to move to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands in November. Mr. Laurencin used to tell his youngest daughter that the best part of his post- retirement job was meeting all the new people. "He would talk you to death," she said.

To all of you who still visit and leave your touching condolences and wishes i thank you. To daddy, i miss you. As your first born daughter i am proud to have you as my father. I still see you and hear your words of encouragement in my head and it pushes me to carry on. I wish this had never happened to you, you deserved so much more in life than this. But we your children will never and can never forget you. I wish your grandson Dylan could have known you . He went to OSU and graduated daddy and he is strong athletic and kind just like you. To my dear Uncle Augustus, how my dad and his children miss you,l... I remember that morning as a child in St. Lucia when my father was calling frantically to NYC when he heard he saw the towers coming down over the news. It is now 10 years later, and so many of the family members was grieving for Charles Augustus Laurencin, but let's rest out hearts because he has done well, and has given his life for others, and this means he has a seat in heaven. His body is gone, but his spirit lives. We love you uncle augustus, my dad grieves for you. We are so proud our you as our family, and we in turn as daughters, sons, nieces and nephews will make you proud.

Uncle Charles, what a kind and funny man. I had a pleasure of meeting years ago. I would never forget him. My memory of him was when I first meet him and he made some jokes and teased his wife Barbara about her potatoe salad. He said it was the best in the world and he was right I haven't had any that good since then. His smile and his charming smooth voice was so cool. I really could see how much he loved his wife and his Family. When I was at there home he loved to mess with his wife. But I knew it was love. He took Barbara in his arms and gave her a hug and kiss like no other. It was so much love in that embrace. That day I really enjoyed myself. I meet him on my first trip to New York City with my boyfriend now husband Omar Laurencin. Uncle Charles is missed very much and I do think of him twice a day everytime the clock turns 9:11 Am and Pm. His strength and courage lives on in all who he has touched. We Love you and see you in Paradise. Love, Charita, Omar, Aasia

I was surfing through Dad and I saw this site and the wonderful words left for you. I thank all who knew and loved my dad. He was a great man and is truly missed each day. It has been over a year "Da" and I still miss you like yesterday. You are in me and around me and above me and in my everyday and I will love you until the day we meet again at heaven's gate. For now I shall work hard, love hard and live hard as you did. We will never forget you Daddy.

The anniversary of September 11th is fast approaching and though I did not find this page earlier I still would like to add my thoughts and prayers to the many already posted.

I cannot say that I knew Charles well but I can say that I know members of his family and I know what an important role he played in their lives. His loss is great for those who knew him, be it intimately or on a professional level.

To his family I want to say, be strong and take courage for though Charles may not be here in the flesh, he will always live on in spirit and in the words he gave you to live by.

God Bless you all

We thank Charles for the time he helped save people in the Air Force. Such a dedication comes with a warm and caring heart full of love for his fellow man. We are deeply sorry for your loss of Charles. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
