William Sugra Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 11, 2001.
The City to Its Fullest
William Christopher Sugra was born and raised in Pennsylvania and started working in computers there. But when his company moved him to New York last year, he wanted to explore the whole city. He and his girlfriend, Suzanne Dinnie, went to the opera and to museums. They went kayaking and rode their bikes.

"We were interested in doing everything we could," Ms. Dinnie said. "He never took the city for granted. We always joked that we were tourists every day, and we did so many of the typical New York tourist things."

Every couple of months when Bill's parents came to visit, he would give them a tour of a different part of the city. Once he took them to see his office at Cantor Fitzgerald's eSpeed subsidiary at the World Trade Center, where he was responsible for the e-mail system. They had to get special passes to be allowed upstairs. His office had no view, but he loved working there. Afterward, they went upstairs to Windows on the World.

The last time his parents visited was in August, to celebrate Bill's birthday (he turned 30) and Suzanne's (she turned 27). They had drinks at the Boathouse in Central Park, went to dinner at the Atlantic Grill, and finished up at the Blue Elephant on the upper east side, where the owner treated them to a round of drinks because theirs were so slow in coming. Bill's mother, El Sugra, said they had hoped to visit Chinatown together on a trip, but never made it.

We first met Bill as a very young teenager. He was a good friend to our sons and especially to our daughter Geraldine. We were always so impressed by Bills goodness, gentleness, & kindness. He was always so respectful. He was the kind of young man that any parent would be proud to have as their son. We think of you EVERYDAY Bill and remember you and your family in our prayers. Everytime we see a butterfly we know it's you saying hello from heaven.

I had the pleasure to know Billy with the bowling league. I really enjoyed and remember the time we spent in the bowling league , and especially living next to the Vaslik's. Also I remember some of the sleep-overs my sister had with Tracey. the most recent is when Mr. and Mrs. Sugra attended my wedding in 1993. I was shocked with the news and I am so sorry.I think of Bill often And I won't forget him. Love, Cindy Neufer

I had the distinct honor of attending high school with Bill. When I found out about his passing on Sept 11th, 2001, I was in a totally state of shock. Here was a person who was always smiling, enjoying life, and someone I remember fondly. There is not a day that goes by when I do not think about the events of that day and having a personal connection just re-inforces those feelings. Bill was a great guy and I might not have been a close friend at Central, a great person who I am blessed to have met.

I had the pleasure of knowing Bill (or "Sugar Bear" as we all called him) at IUP. My roommate, Nikki and I hung out with him and his floor-mates from the Lawrence Hall Dorm 2nd Floor most of our college years. As most college friendships go, we all parted ways at graduation and it wasn't until the IUP magazine came out that I found out about Bill's death. It rocked me to the core. 911 was personal enough to us as Americans, but it now had come directly into the life of someone I had spent a lot of great hours with. To the Sugra family, my deepest sympathies go out to you. Bill was a bright spirit in my life and many others who knew him at IUP. God Bless...

May God Bless Bill, Elma, and Tracy as we remember Bill on this very sad day. It's been two years, but he is still in our hearts, as we we remember his sweet smile and wonderful personality, and the great relationship he had with his mom and dad and sister. God Bless you all. We love you.

I was a Fraternity brother of Bill's at IUP. He lived two door's down from me when we lived in the Fraternity house our Junior year, and one thing I will always remember about Bill was that he was one of the nicest people I had ever met. His parents should be very proud that they raised a fine and outstanding young man who was always a gentleman and a great person.

On September 11, 2002, our family received a spruce tree to plant in honor of the victims of Sept. 11. We received a tree in honor of William Christopher Sugra, and when I checked this site, I was surprised to find out he was originally from our area. Planting the tree in his memory was an honor for our family. We will tend to it carefully, and will think of you each day as we watch the tree grow. We wish peace for your family and friends.

I found out that Bill had passed

nearly 3 months after the World Trade Center attack. I attended CCHS with Bill and remember him quite fondly, especially his warm smile. As others have commented, he was such a genuine and kind person, and my encounters with him form some of my best memories from high school. Every day when I look out my window and see the empty space where the towers used to be, I remember Bill and say a prayer for him and his family. God bless.

I first met Bill and his sister Tracy in 1994 when we all worked at Pasta Bella in Trexlertown, PA together. He was a good friend for many years. Then I lost touch with him. I ended up running into him at the Lehigh Valley Mall while Christmas shopping in '99, and he told me how good life was. It was the last time I ever spoke or saw Bill.

When I read the article in the Morning Call last year about locals missing from that attack, I broke down. To this day I think about a friend I lost that aweful day, and I know God is taking care of him - just as he takes care of all of us.

God Bless you Bill~

I worked with Bill in NYC. He would take time after work to share his knowledge of computers with me.

We shared many good times at the Pig-n-Whistle.

He will greatly be missed.

I graduated from CCHS with Bill. Even though we didn't stay close after graduation, I can still remember his smile and his laughter after all these years. On the eve of the anniversary of 9/11, I extend my sympathy and prayers to Bill's family and friends.

I had the joy of attending Central Catholic and IUP with Bill. Fond memories of his laughter over lunches in high school always bring a smile. Seeing him on campus in Indiana always resulted in a short chat and a couple laughs. He was an incredible guy.

Since my parents shared news of his loss, rarely a day goes by without a thought or prayer for Bill and his family. Your son holds a positive place in the memories of many people. While his loss on September 11 brought darkness, the pleasure of having known Bill will be a light that many people continue to share.

Bill was one of my very best friends my senior year of high school. His smile, honesty and intergrity affected every one around him. You always knew he meant what he said and his smile was irresistable -- you had to join in. His friendship was genuine. We lost touch after high school as so many people do but I have often looked back on those times and hoped he was as happy as he deserved to be. When I received the phone call from a CCHS classmate that Bill had been in the WTC I prayed for his safety. My husband and I pray now for his family. May they be comforted to know how loved he was and is. May God comfort you and bless you always.

I was home from work when the World Trade Centers got attacked and later that day my sister, Heather, told me that Bill Sugra worked there. I remembered Bill pretty well but not as well as I knew his sister Tracey. I said a prayer that he too had been sick and had to stay home from work. Being a few yrs behind Bill in High school I didnt know him well he was better friends with my sister but he was probably one of the nicest and kindest people I met in my life when I look back at those years. A friend of mine and I used to go to Tracy's to watch the show Top Cops all the time. The Sugra's are good people and I think daily how hard it must be for you all. Anyone who went to Central Catholic is a family member so we all lost a great family member in this tragedy. To the Sugra family my wifes and daughters and my prayers go out to you all and GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!! [email protected] ( feel free to email me)

I Met Bill first in North Carolina with PPI, I then took over the PPI NYC position after him. I spoke to him once in a while to get his input on the job I was doing. In the few times I spoke to Bill he was so helpful and kind, alway's giving me great career advice. He always had a positive attitude and a bright cheery smile to boot. But I know he loved life. and was alway's a happy person. The world was a brighter place while he was in it. He will be missed, even though I diddn't know him so well. To his family, My condolences on your loss.

One day my sister,Dani, called and asked if I rememeber Bill Sugra from Central Catholic. Of course I said yes. She said that she wasn't sure if it was Bill Sr or his son but one of them had been in the WTC on that fateful day. Later on we found that it was his son. Unfortunately, I never met Bill Jr but knowing his dad I know young Bill was a great guy. My heart goes out to his family.

I will always remember Bill's unassuming demeanor and quiet, but brilliant smile. There was something so warm about him. Bill was a rare gentle spirit during those years at Central Catholic; he stood out for his ability to be genuine. I only wish I could have told him.

In the six years that I've been blessed to know you, you always made the day brighter and your spirit lifted even the dullest day. I just know the angels are taking pointers from you on how to be happy, unfortunately you left us much too soon. Someday, I will get to stop by your big network room up there and ask for my e-mail address and it will be good to see you again that happy day.

I was lucky enough to attend grade school and high school with Bill. He was truly the nicest person I encountered through those years. He was nothing but kindness, and I mourn his loss daily. I think about his parents and sister and the rest of his family and friends very often. I am so glad to have known him.

My mom used to iron for "Billy", and was deeply saddened when she saw the tragedy of the World Trade Center on TV. It took a few minutes before the realization hit her, and she cried out "Oh my God, Billy!" She said he was such a nice young man. Heaven can only be richer because of our loss here on earth.

We are so very sorry for your loss of William. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

Billy was the type of guy that never stood out in a crowd, but you knew he was there. He had something about him that he didn't need to speak anything and you knew exactly what he was always about. A true hero and I was glad to grow up with hi because our parents are still best freinds and will be forever
