Thinking of Wayne today and every anniversary. His smile could light up a room - and in all of the years I worked with him at Sedgwick I don't think I ever saw him angry once. He was kind, compassionate, happy, and spoke so often of his family.

I never knew him but he seemed like such a sweet, kind-hearted man. I wasn't even alive on that horrible day but i really just wanted to get to know some of the people who have passed. What a great man with such a beautiful soul. I will be praying for peace for any family members or friends of Alan and it is so comforting to know he is smiling down on all of you from heaven. I'm so sorry for your loss. Sincerly, AnnaClaire

Just thinking of you today, Wayne. Took me awhile to visit the memorial a few years ago. So many years have passed since growing up with mutual friends. I know you are jamming in a better place! God Bless to you and family!

This past September 11th, while attending in support for friends who lost loved ones I saw Wayne's photo being held up by his loved ones. Please know that I have taken the time to read about Wayne so he will Never be forgotten. My heart truly breaks for all innocent lives lost and who has been left behind. RIP, Wayne.

Thinking of you today Wayne, like I have the past 15 years on this day. I watched the 9/11 tributes on TV today like I do each year until your name is announced. I always remember your amazing smile and think of all the laughs we had in the hallways at work back in the day. We joked about our curly hair. You always made me smile and laugh. You are a special soul Wayne and I'll never forget you. I still have the birthday card you gave me with the button inside and will keep it always. -- "Runway" (your nickname for me)

On the 15th Anniversary of 9/11 in grieving and praying for all the victims, family, friends and all those affected by that dreadful day, through prayer, I would like to share the Prayer of the Faithful from the Memorial Service for my Beloved Cousin Wayne
Prayer of the Faithful
Reader: MaryAnn Russo Marfia
Priest: God, the Almighty Father, raised Christ his son from the dead; with confidence we ask him to save his people, living and dead.
Reader:*On the day of his baptism, Wayne received the promise of eternal life. Lord, grant him peace with your saints forever. We pray to the Lord.
People: Lord, hear our prayer.
Reader: *For all the victims who were injured or lost their lives in the violence and tragedy of September 11th, especially on this day for Wayne Russo for whom this mass is offered, we pray to the Lord.
People: Lord, hear our prayer.
Reader: *For Wayne's loving and dedicated parents, Arlene and Arthur Russo, and Wayne's wonderful sister and her husband, Lynne and Mario Linale, who are suffering from the loss of their son and brother, that Wayne might continue in their lives as an angel on their shoulders and Lord, please help them find some comfort and light at this difficult time in their lives, as Wayne would want, we pray to the Lord.
People:Lord, hear our prayer.
Reader:*For Lynne and Mario's unborn children, that they will know their Uncle Wayne through our cherished memories and guidance, and that all of us will remember the rich full life Wayne led with his many accomplishments, for the times he made us laugh and for the times he comforted us when we were sad, for his warmth and kindness, for making such a positive difference to so many, we pray to the Lord.
People:Lord, hear our prayer.
Reader:*For Wayne's multitude of friends and for all his many relatives that we will continue to feel Wayne's loving presence in our hearts. As Helen Keller once stated, The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt from the heart. We pray to the Lord.
People:Lord, hear our prayer.
Reader: *For all those who are suffering from the loss of their loved ones, recent or long ago, we pray to the Lord.
People: Lord, hear our prayer.
Reader: *For Wayne's grandparents, Velia and Ernest Russo and Dorothy and August Hockenjos, and all deceased members of the Russo and Hockenjos families, that they will welcome Wayne into Paradise, with arms wide open, we pray to the Lord.
People: Lord, hear our prayer.
Reader: *That the traits displayed by Wayne Russo, especially his gentle, considerate ways, always reaching out to others and lending a helping hand, never looking to be rewarded, that he be rewarded in eternal life and that we exemplify his unyielding traits for tolerance and unselfishness and pay it forward so that this life on earth will be a better place, we pray to the Lord.
People: Lord, hear our prayer.
Reader:*For the free will of all people to act in a benevolent manner to all people, no matter how young or old, whatever their religion, occupation, or stature in society, we pray to the Lord.
People: Lord, hear our prayer.
Reader: *For the leaders of our country and for all those involved in the judicial system, that we not give up or loose sight of notions of integrity, fairness, and equality, and they continue to strive for the pursuits of freedom, liberty and justice for all, we pray to the Lord.
People:Lord, hear our prayer.
Reader:*For the gratitude that we feel for our firefighters, police and rescue workers at the disaster sites, and for those who place their lives in danger to assist others, and for the members of our armed forces, past and present, and particularly our armed forces currently engaged in the War Against Terrorism, we pray to the Lord.
People:Lord, hear our prayer.
Reader: *We thank all those present at this Memorial Mass for Wayne today. For their safety as they travel home, that their fears, sorrows and feelings of helplessness be replaced with the spirit to continue and strive for achieving peace within themselves and in the world, we pray to the Lord.
People: Lord, hear our prayer.
Priest: We ask this through Christ our Lord.
People: Amen.

Wayne, just thinking about you and your family and how you all took me into your family. How this day is so hard for all of us as we all will never forget this day and you. I remember how you dad would write to you so this is to you. I still carry the haunting of working at Ground Zero and not know you were missing only to find out after my assignment was finished. How I wish I could have done something. You are so lucky to have the family you have as I am sure you know. They will never forget you as many of us will not. Today I am going to an event here in Florida, I will see you there.

To my Cousin Wayne. Today I remember you for the man you were. The cool rocker that loved life and music. The man who gave to less fortunate. It was in summer of 1999 i came to temp in Sedgwick of NJ in Roseland and i met Wayne. what a wonderful human being! When they offered the job in NY with Marsh when they merge with Sedgwick, in that department Wayne was the only brave employee that was not afraid of the height of World trade center, he took the job. When i heard about the attacked on the building i knew right away that Wayne would be affected because he was a very dedicated employee and always on time. You are now an angel that you were in human form. Being from Nigeria i know that people like you are not too common, i had this memory about you, one day i passed by your cubicle i heard you playing nigerian music CD in my language(yoruba) i was shocked i asked Wayne if he understand the music he was playing he said no but that he loved the beat. Thank you for all the advise you gave me about my son. Thank you. i know you are in a better place.

Soon it will be 10 years since that awful day when you were taken away from your family and friends. I read on a site today that your father has since passed away, as well. I'm sure the two of you together are looking down and watching over all those you loved. You will always be remembered. May you continue to walk with God and help those who loved you so find peace in knowing they will see you (both) again one day.

Wayne and I became friends in the 4th grade at Livingston School, and this friendship continued through junior high at Kawameeh (where we once cut school to hang out and listen to Cheap Trick and AC/DC) and Union High School. As so often happens, we lost touch after high school, but I was glad to hear he led such a rich life. I think about Wayne often, especially on this day, or when I hear Back in Black or Surrender. Rock on Wayne!

I had the privilege of getting to know Wayne thru work about 10 years ago. I worked for an insurance company in N.H. & Wayne was a contact of mine at Marsh & McLennan. Our weekly phone calls regarding work related stuff turned into almost daily phone calls regarding everything but work! Wayne told me about his band and even sent me tapes from a televised talent show he used to perform on, Uncle Floyd's I think it was? He also told me of his passion for travel and all the wonderful places he had been. What I remember most, however, was his obvious connection & committment to his family. He was a kind, loving, wonderful person. We sadly never had an opportunity to meet in person but we had a wonderful long-distance friendship.
I left my job a few years prior to 9/11/2001, and we unfortunately had lost contact w/each other. He was never forgotten however, I thought of him often and wished we had kept in touch.
I heard someone on CNN a few days after 9/11 saying she was searching for her friend, Wayne Russo. My heart sank. I knew it had to be him.
I would like his family to know that Wayne was clearly devoted to them and spoke w/such love and adoration for his parents and his sister. We have lost a beautiful person, but we were so fortunate to have him in our loves. I will remember Wayne forever.
God Bless.

My dear cousin,
It's been over two years since that day in September. I remember hearing the news when one of my innocent fifth graders asked me to pray for the people in a building that was hit by a plane. It wasn't until I got home and watched TV that I understood what she was talking about. And then I thought of you. My "cuz," my older cousin Wayne who I always looked up to with admiration. We weren't that close, but I always enjoyed being in your presence. I know in my heart that you are with God in Heaven in His Glory, and you are with relatives who loved you so much. I can't help but smile when I think about your being in Heaven with my dad, watching over me. Two of the best guardian angels one could ever ask for.
Aunt Arlene, Uncle Sonny, and Lynne,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I know how much Wayne meant to you. I think about him everyday, and I pray for you everyday. My three little girls include Wayne in their prayers, too. "Thank you, Jesus, for taking care of Mommy's cousin." I love and miss you all, and one of these days I'll come back to Jersey.
Love,
Joann

Today is the second anniversary of 9/11. My thoughts of 9/11, the Russo family, and the media coverage of the anniversary have led me to this website. Arthur, I just want you to know that you, Arlene, Lynne, little Jordon, and the rest of your family are in my thoughts and prayers today. Though I've never met your family, I feel as if I know them. I'm sure all of your feelings are just as strong today as they were on that tragic day. May God bless and comfort all of you. I have never been so touched nor felt so honored than this past April when you shared NYC and stories of Wayne with me. I promised you then and I promise you all now, I will never forgot. God bless you all!!!!

Wayne:
It's the eve of the second anniversary of that day when you were taken so suddenly. Not a day goes by without a Wayne thought. I miss you, my friend, whose sound advice, sense of humor, and genuine personality - you shared it so generously to all. Your extension is engrained in my mind, and as I did when you were here, I make a phone call to you daily, in my mind.
The pristine, brilliant blue sky, accompanied by the crisp edge of autumn is now shadowed by the fact that we lost you on that gorgeous Tuesday morning.
Please look over your family, your friends, and all those that miss you so terribly.

Wayne:
It's that time of year again. The streets are bustling with people shopping, the lamps are decorated with color coordinated wreaths, lights and ornaments, and the air has that biting quality that hints at snow. Yet, no where to be found is your great big smile, with your huge hugs that always accompanied you. I miss your voice answering the phone, and more than once have I dialed your extension out of habit. It's Christmas party time, and I miss you, my friend, the only guy who really didn't care if I were hyperactive, introducing you to all the people I know because you were "THE" man to know. Tori Amos came out with a new album -- it's a powerful and moving album with one song, "I can't see New York" that brings me back over and over to that fateful day.
Please comfort your family who loves and misses you so much.

Dear Lynne and the entire Russo Family - I still look back on Lynne and Mario's wedding as one of the best weddings ever. The obvious bond between Lynne and Wayne was always present, and I will never forget that infamous dance to AC/DC which brought so much laughter and happiness to everyone at the reception. Memories like those will be cherished for a lifetime. My thoughts and prayers are always with you and Wayne...he is safe with the Lord where he will keep watch over all of you. God bless.

Dear Lynne,
I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am about the tragedy that took your brother from you and your family.
I only met your brother once, on the day that I videotaped your wedding. As I sit here today 9/11/2002, one year from that horrible day that changed all of our lives I am watching your video as a tribute to your brother. I hope that the video from your wedding will in some small way help you and your family to remember Wayne at one of the high points of your lives.
I will always remember the moment when you dragged him out to the dance floor for your special dance together. I have captured hundreds of weddings in my 17 years and I still remember that moment as one of my favorites.
I hope that someday you will be able to watch the video and not feel tha pain of losing your brother but remember those beautiful moments that you all shared together as a family.
God bless you.

To Wayne's family: I was a friend of Wayne's in our freshman year of college at NYU. He was sweet and funny and I really enjoyed hanging out with him. Since that year, every time I have ever heard a Flock of Seagulls song, I have thought of him, since that was his favorite band that year.
He seemed to be studying all the time, and I was impressed. Reading his profile here, I wasn't suprised to see that he had been to so many great places and had done such good things with his life.
I just wanted to share my sweet memories so that you know that he even touched people's lives that you may not know about.
My prayers and thoughts are with you.

I Just read Wayne's profile...sounds as if he and my son Matt could have had some great arguments...Matt was an avid Jets/ Mets fan! But they would have agreed on love of family and helping others. We are very sorry for your loss of Wayne. We thank him for helping the children. Our hearts cry with you.
America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

Wayne:
I still have your emails with your witty comments: "Lady Rei, share the love!" It was only an organizational chart that I requested, but you made me laugh.
You are my true friend, cheerleader, "financial reasoner," joke-definer, rationalizer, and most of all, forever part of my heart. Your generosity and sincerity touched so many people, and we are all heartbroken.
Every day, something reminds me of our routine.
We miss you so much.
I know you are watching over your family, and your friends. I also know you are traveling the world, visiting all those places that I have yet to receive a post card from.
You must promise, when you stop by in Japan, you must try sushi this time around. By the way, I still don't get half the jokes that people tell me. I guess I have to try harder to find the humor in those jokes!
I'll be thinking of you at the Christmas party this year. You are the only friend who would tolerate being introduced to my friends, fifty times, over and over.
