Alejandro Castano Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 13, 2001.
Loving Sibling Rivalry
When you are born 11 months apart, sibling rivalry can take on a whole new meaning. Alejandro Castano made an art out of torturing and teasing his sister Claudia Sanchez. "Look at my bike, it's better than yours," he would tell her each summer while they were growing up in Englewood, N.J. And when tensions between the two got really heated, Mr. Castano would pull out his favorite taunt: "You're not really my sister. You're adopted."

For Ms. Sanchez, there was no refuge, even her Barbie dolls became victims. Those moments are cherished now. "It was just the two of us. Alej loved to play games, to make jokes," Ms. Sanchez said of her brother, who as a delivery man for Empire Distribution in Carlstadt, N.J., dropped off office supplies to the World Trade Center every day. "That was just his way of saying, 'I love you.' "

Only his mother could quiet the joking. "He was always telling us, `You can't cook,' " Ms. Sanchez said. "But as soon he got a plate of my mother's pork chops, rice and beans and plantains, it was a different story. He was a little kid in paradise."

To The Family,
It's been near 11 years since the tragedy of 9/11, however, I still would like to offer my sincere condolences in the loss of your loved one. How we long for the day when God will put an end to all wickedness.

Sincerely,
Mr. Terry of NC

Our mothers are friends and have been for many years. I cant say that I remember you, however I just wanted to let your family know that yesterday on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, I thought about you and your family and sent all my love and prayers. May you rest in eternal peace, and your legacy of being a great man and amazing sense of humor live on forever!

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I remember Alex from way back, I grew up in Bergenfield. I had the pleasure of his sense of humor, and his friendship. Although most of us went our separate ways, he was never forgotten. To see his picture among the many others breaks my heart! He is a hero, like the others who gave their lives. I am so very glad that I had the opportunity to know him, even if it was for a brief time.

I also had the pleasure of meeting his sister and his mom. May God Bless You! My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

On Sunday, September 8th, All Saints Church in Pasadena, CA gave each attendee an identification wristband to wear for four days in honor of individuals who died on Sept. 11th, 2001. My wristband was for Alejandro, and during the next few days I prayed for him, for love and peace to be his legacy. On the 11th, we had a morning vigil at church, and I lit a candle for him and prayed that he be in a place of joy - and humor! It was very special to share this time with Alejandro, and I know he is so very blessed. To his family I send love and appreciation for being able to share a personal moment of my life with him. I feel him smiling down on us with such love! May you, his family, receive many blessings from his sacrifice.

Although I never met Alejandro, I had the privalage today (9-11-02) of being chosen to read his name over the radio and ring San Diego's "Freedom Bell" as a tribute to his life. The ceremony was held today at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium and broadcast live on Star 100.7. For all of those who knew Alejandro, I want to let you know, that there are people all around the country who are praying specificaly for you. Alejandro brought the trajedy of 9-11 down to a personal level for me today for the first time, as I learned more about his life. Alejandro may no longer be with us, but he will never be forgotten.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Alejandro and his family, but i did have the pleasure of speaking to him on the phone. I worked for Lowestfare.com and his mother called tomake arrangements for someone to come to New York and because the person was coming from far she also made arrangements forAlejandro to fly. I remember him yelling at his mother about the times and days and i asked to talk to him, and joking told him to be nice to his mother, cuase mothers are always right. He laughed with me and he told me if I ever come to New York to stop by, I am really sorry for your lost and I have no words that can possibly bring him back. Just cherish the time you did have with him, and just remember he is now an angel that will be looking upon you. Thanks Alejandro for that day of laughter. Brenda

For my old friend Alex,,as children and teenagers growing up as friends and neighbors,we shared many exciting , unique experiences..Many of those i have treasured in my memory of the good times in the old neighborhood:the laughter, the drama, the over-the-top wild senses of humor that we much enjoyed, espec`ly in the year/summer of 1983.That`s part of me,and I will never forget. Will forever be missing you my old friend..You will always be with us,,in our hearts and thoughts..Mike g./////

We are very sorry for your loss of Alejandro. May the warm memories of times shared lighten the sorrow in your hearts. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
