John Cooper Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 13, 2001.
An Inquisitive Mechanic
John A. Cooper Jr. was only 5 when he started removing the backs of the transistor radios in the apartment in Williamsburg with a screwdriver. He was looking for something. "He wanted to see where the man was talking from," said his mother, Clowdia Cooper, "and he'd put it back together but it wouldn't work then. And the clocks!"

Mr. Cooper, 40, grew up an avid athlete, playing football around Brooklyn. He met Cathy DeCicco in the late 1980's, when they worked for the same company. Their first date was in the rowdy section of a New York Rangers' hockey game at Madison Square Garden, where he had season tickets.

By the time they married in 1993, she was also hooked on the Rangers. She had a son, Jeffrey, three days after going to a game; another son, Adam, followed in June 2001. Mr. Cooper worked for SunGard Trading Systems in Jersey City. He sold computer software, and was visiting Sandler O'Neill in 1 World Trade Center on Sept. 11. Lately, little Jeffrey has been tinkering with the radios around his family's Bayonne home.

John and I were friends and classmates at PS 250, in Brooklyn. I was very saddened to hear of your passing. I was a first responder with the NYPD, who spent countless hours at Ground Zero (WTC), after the 9/11 attacks. I had no idea at the time that John was one of the one-off the casualties/missing. May God almighty bless John’s soul. Continuous prayers for his family members !!! (RIP) brother

I never knew John, I wasn't even born when it happened but just from reading what others had to say about him I can tell he was a good person that everyone could get along with. I'm sure John is missed by many and may he Rest In Peace.

I still remember our times on the baseball diamond John “Cecil” Cooper, your smile and warmth.
If I could only have thrown a curveball for a strike and you could hit one, I can still hear you yell through gritted teeth “Jesus Christ”!!! RIP kind Sir

May the peace of God rule in your hearts and may you find forgiveness for the evil deeds performed by those who are less concerned about the love we should have for one another.

Remember

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

John:

It's your cousin Maritza again. I just wanted to make sure that you knew that your family in California (although I am living in Texas now) hasn't forgotten you nor your family you left behind. I still continue to pray for your soul and for your wife's strength and your children's happiness. I sure do wish we could have met, but I will promise to keep you in my thoughts and prayers always. I love you cousin John Cooper. May God continue to have mercy on us all.

I just found out a few days ago about John and i can't stop thinking about how wonderful he was. He was/is really one of those special people that the world will surely miss. I used to work with him at D&D in the mid 80's. He was my white water rafting buddy and pulled me to safty a few times...I even accidentaly "clocked" him with the paddle and he did not yell at me...he had sooo much patience! He was meant to have a family and I am so happy to know he had that I wish I could do something for the family...please feel free to contact me....my deapest heartfelt condolences...I really loved the guy he was so wonderful........

I was John's cousin and unfortunately, I didn't even know of him until this terrible tragedy. My heart is aching for his wife and children and his mother (my aunt). I pray for your strength a lot and I wish nothing but love and peace for you and your children. We may be far away (the other side of the country) but OUR family will remain strong in the eyes of God.

May God continue to provide you strength and faith in this difficult time. Please feel free to call upon those family members who are far away but have you in our thoughts and prayers constantly.

God Bless You cousin John A. Cooper. I never met you but your spirit has found its way into my heart. You will NEVER EVER EVER be forgotten!!!!

I grew up with John in Brooklyn and remember him as a fun loving, smart guy who always wore a smile. He spent many an afternoon at my house after school or playing hoops in the park. I left Brooklyn when I was 17 and lost touch with many of my friends, including John. I now wish I stayed in touch with him. God Bless John and his family. He will never be forgotten.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
