Thinking of you Patrick - what a great tribute for you and your family today at Penn State. You are smiling I know. You were great man among boys when I knew you at college - our Chi O man! Passionate about your college, fiercely loyal to your friends and a legacy to those who knew you.

Dear Family of Patrick,
On September 11, 2001 I was engaged to be married and working in Chicago. A few days, or perhaps weeks later, I went to noon mass at Holy Name Cathedral. As mass ended, Father shared that he had the names of those lost on 9/11 on strips of paper at the altar, and invited the congregation to come up, take a name and pray for that person and their family. I will never forget the looks on people's faces, nor how I felt, as we walked up, took our name, and left the Cathedral. Today, as I was watching the coverage of the 20 year anniversary I heard the name Patrick Thomas Dwyer, which was the name handed to me on a blue piece of paper 20 years ago. I continue to pray for you all. God bless.

I knew Patrick since elementary school. When I heard his life was taken on 9/11 , it broke my heart. He was always such a nice person and kind to everyone. I have thought about him and the loss to his family every anniversary of 9/11. May his family find peace and let his soul rest in peace.

I was raised in Smithtown, and attended high school with Patrick at Smithtown West. He was a the gorgeous jock who sat behind me in English class. He was intelligent, funny and very kind to everyone. He was also my high school crush. Patrick was just one of those people that radiated "that light of life" and it drew everyone towards him. He is cherished and missed, and my thought and prayers are with you and your family. Rest in Peace.

Just returned from NY where we were lucky enough to spend our 30th wedding anniversary. We spent some sombre reflective time at the memorial gardens as my wife and I had been due to fly to NY three days after 9/11 but never got there.
For whatever reason both of us separately took pictures of Patricks name whilst at the memorials and so I felt compelled to put a face to the name.
There are just so many names and behind each lies a tragedy for all those that loved and knew those people.
We send our most heartfelt condolences to all of the victims loved ones and friends, but especially to Patrick's family and friends.
Stay strong and remember the times you shared, nobody can ever take that away from you.
Our love and best wishes

I think of you so often especially when I'm on the LIRR. Said prayers for you and your family at the memorial service I attended last night. Thought about the crossword puzzle you were doing that morning and our last dialogue as we got off the train in Penn Station. I enjoyed each morning for six years talking sports and current events. You were like my own son being a jock and the same age as my him. I will never forget!

We are planting irises for all the 9/11 victims. We have prayed for all the familes that have lost loved ones. Here at our school we have held a balloon release for the 10th aniversary. My step dad, Chris, spent a year in Iraq for 9/11. He is leaving for Afganistan soon. We pray for the families every night. Our school has been doing a lot of things in memory of the victims of 9/11. You are in my prayers.

My prayers go out to Patrick's family and the Dwyers from a fellow Kingsmen. I had the pleasure of marching with Patrick in the Kingsmen drumline during the late 70's and 1980. I'm sure the rest of us who marched with Patrick will remember him as a great drummer and a great person to know.

Patrick was my cousin. I remember when I was young going to his house and sitting on the couch and just talking with him. I was so young at that age I was probably just rambling on about nothing, but he sat there. Patrick was one of the greatest men who has ever lived. And I miss him to this day.

I grew up in Smithtown and attended High School West along with Pat. He was a senior when I was a freshman. He didn't know me, but I knew him. He was the cute boy that had a gentle smile and sunshine surrounding him. He was the boy all the girls had a crush on, but he wasn't arrogant and he was known for being a nice person. We probably passed in the hallways a few times, but it says a lot that I have a clear memory of his smile. When I saw the picture in Newsday, I hung it up in my classroom and told my students about him (I am a high school teacher). I told them that life is fragile--and that what matters most is how we treat others. In the end, that is our legacy. So, I remember your son, your brother, your husband, your father and your friend as a warm human being who will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I think of you often, Pat, having commuted with you for so long. I'd alway look to see when I got on in Northport and stood opposite you in the doorway that made the transfer at Huntington much easier. I sat with you and the our other four buddies into NY, as the old man of the group. I remember our last conversation when you were doing your crossword puzzle. You asked "What was the name of the movie with John Wayne down on the Rio Grand". As we arrived in Penn Station the morning of September 11, 2001, I turned to you and said "Give 'em hell, Patty! The days and years of missing your upbeat personally and smile has confirmed how beautiful human beings can be. The tenth anniversary is next week and to this very day I miss you big guy. Tom

Pat, I'm going to make you proud. I earned an award in your name from Smithtown during my senior year in 2007..I just graduated Sunday from Fairfield U and planned on doing institutional trading since I entered college..Your award will always be on my desk, and will always be the driver behind my success..You are a hero to me, and even though I never met you, you hold a special place in my heart. I will follow in your footsteps, as you had a reputation of being the best at your job, I won't let you down.. God bless your family.

Patrick and I attended the same High School in 1982, Smithtown High School West. We had brief conversations in the hallway and in classes with Pat.
Patrick seemed to approach life with an easy smile, and was just plain friendly. Smart guy with a quite relaxed sense of confidence. Ironically, this stands out in a High School environment...
I haven't visited the sight yet, too sad and uncomfortable for me to consider, even today. Yet, my thoughts of the tragedy are always felt close to home and in Patrick's memory.
I wish the Dwyer family all my best. Patrick will always be remembered.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

To the Dwyer family and of course to Patrick. I am Steve Tilzey from Manchester England. I am the son of John and Margo. We think about our distant relatives such a lot especially the boys who were tragically killed in the WTC, Gregory, Martin,Robert, and of course Danny who was killed in action in Vietnam in 68. I am coming over to the US with my son Ruairi next month. Hopefully I can meet some families. Proud to call you family no matter how distant.

I knew Pat from my days at Penn State and that was probably the last I ever saw of him (I graduated in June '86). We always called him "Dwyer". He was always a great guy and a huge sports fan. I moved to California and lost touch with him and all of the boys that we ran around with (Rudy, Russo, etc). Luke T. told me Pat had been in the WTC and I was very saddened. We had some great times at Penn State together. I really wish I had stayed in better touch with everybody and I also wish I had some photos of those days. God Bless you Pat.

My dearest brother-in-law. It has been over 3 years and it is only now that I have read these wonderful words from people I don't even know. You were the brother I never had! My friend! A day doesn't go by that I don't think of you. I hold onto your children and enjoy every minute with them. I always promised you I would watch over them and I keep my promises. Matty misses his God-father. Your pictures are teasured and your memories are with us during each family event. You would be proud.

Patrick Dwyer and I went to the same high school and graduated in the same class. (Smithtown West, 1982) We only shared one class together (Physics) as far as I can remember. I did not know Pat well, but here is a small glimpse of the person I remember.
Smithtown West was a large high school, and Pat played football and lacrosse. Now, I did not hang out with the guys who played football and lacrosse. In fact, I hardly knew anyone in that group. Regardless, Pat always said hello to me, always had a smile.
And get this: after school in the Spring, he would occasionally come in to the gym during practice and try to beat me at badminton. What is most remarkable to me as I think about it now is that high school was a time when image supposedly meant so much, and who you hung out with was supposedly so important, and none of those things seemed to matter with Pat. He was an incredibly friendly person, a football and lacrosse player, who had no problem whatsoever with being seen (and sorely beaten) by a girl on a badminton court.
At our 20th reunion last month, I learned of Pat's death. I never knew the person he grew to become after high school, and my heart goes out to his family and friends.

On this past 9/11 the choral groups in the area took part in the Rolling Requiem and performed Mozart's work in the Basilica of San Carlos Borromeo in Carmel, California. We each took a person's name and I was honored to have Patrick's. I would just like the family to know that I will continue to hold him and them in my prayers always. I have his picture from the NYT's and I am going to paste it on my music. May Christ's Peace be with you during this painful time. Sincerely, Mary Lou Berry

We met years ago (1989) through a friend at Cantor Fitzgerald. Through the years we lost touch, and I was deeply saddened when I saw your face on channel 5's tribute to those who lost their lives. You were a great person who always smiled. Your smile lit up a room. My heart goes out to your wife and children, and to all who lost a wonderful friend. You will truly be missed.
May your family find some peace in knowing you are now up with the angels in heaven. May God be with you. Rest in peace.

Patrick was my cousin, we shared many fun times as kids and as young adults. As our lifes became more grown up and filled with careers and family, we would see one and other occasionally, and make a promise to get together soon, I am so sad that soon will never be. I often run the roads of Nissequogue and I recall the mornings he would drive by with the kids, stop and chat or zoom by in the sports car. I would recall a funny time hanging out downtown, how he knew all the lyrics to American Pie, I still cry when I hear that song. I have "faith in god above" that we will see each other again. With love

America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

Nothing I can say will help the pain you are feeling, only time will help. Pat was very well thought of by everyone, his classmates and coworkers alike. You have great memories to hold on to as do I. Pat was a class guy, respected by everyone who knew him. God Bless.
