Klaus Sprockamp Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 16, 2001.
A Visitor From Germany

Johannes Sprockamp, now 6, asks his mother Beate daily if he can call Papa in heaven. On Sept. 11, his father, Klaus Sprockamp, was at an 8:30 a.m. meeting at the World Trade Center that was supposed to last an hour. Mr. Sprockamp, 42, was the chief financial officer and chief operating officer of LION Bioscience AG, a German firm.

He had recently hired Tracy M. Coffey, who was late to that meeting and who has since become friends with his family — close enough to be able to describe their lives before Sept. 11.

Mr. Sprockamp, she said, loved riding motorcycles until he met Beate, a surgeon. "He just completely fell in love with her, and he stopped with the whole motorcycle thing and settled for a convertible," Ms. Coffey said.

One of his passions was maintaining the hillside landscape surrounding their home in Muhltal, Germany. The boys wanted to be like their father. "Can I mow the lawn now?" Johannes asks.

Johannes is a serious boy, full of thought and wonder. He is quieter now and very often full of anger. His brother, Lucas, 4, has been persistent in the notion that "if the terrorists knew how much we love Papa, they wouldn't have flown the plane into the tower." He just recently began sleeping through the night again.

Another year went by and yesterday 9-11-2018 - I remembered my dear friend Klaus, I prayed for his soul to be in peace. Something unusual happened to me last month. My niece was visiting from Germany and we went to visit the memorial at the WTC. As we walked towards the fountains where the names of the victims were I told her that I had lost a dear friend from Germany, I mentioned his name and said lets find his name on the wall. As we arrived at the wall I couldnt believe my eyes, we were in front of his name. At that moment I knew he was there with us, a very emotional moment so... we prayed! Would love to talk to you Beate or to Klaus sister my email is [email protected]

Something amazing happened on Oct 20, 2013... I went to the 911 memorial. I decided to post a pic on my facebook page with the message "we will never forget". I raised my camera and saw this name through my viewfinder: Klaus Johannes Sprockamp; it was long... and I actually thought that if I was to take just 1 picture for facebook, I wanted the name of an American. I stepped to the right and snapped the name of Jon Schlissel. No sooner did I post, than a friend from high school that I haven't seen in 40 years commented on the picture and said she had lost her much loved boss at the World Trade Center and could I please snap a picture of his name - it was Klaus Sprockamp. Incomprehensible synchronicity and a message from above. Klaus, I am sorry I initially passed your name by. I have sinced learned of the tragedy of a loving family you had to leave behind and the dismantling of your American operation if not your entire company. Your loss was infinite just like so many Americans. God Bless You. I was honored to post your name as well. I will remember you and pray for you and your family. Thank you for touching my heart.

Yesterday was a difficult one for so many. I am thinking of Klaus and all of you, his family. He must be missed so much. I pray God will bless the boys. I'm sure Klaus would be so proud of his sons as they grow into generous and kind adults. So from the Texas Hill Country comes tears, hope, and encouragement for your sweet family. I will never forget.

Dear Beate,

Today is September 11, 2006 and looking through the different websites I continued my search for a link, a way to find out more information about my dear friend Klaus. I now live in New York and I was an old friend of your husband from his London days, we were friends for many years, we were a group of a few close friends who meet and did things together on a regular basis, he often come to my house in London for dinner, to watch the world cup or just relax with friends. I find out about his death a month after September 11 when I friend called me from London and told me, it was very painful and I guest that is when it really hit me deeply and I grieved about his death and that horrendous day which has ripen a part the heart of so many people. Today I remembered Klaus, and as I prayed for his soul this morning I also found this site; it was a sad relief and also a moment of joy to read about him and his family. Please contact me as I would love to talk to you. I have a framed picture of your wedding day which Klaus sent to me. My thoughts are with you and your family today. Jane

At 8:46am as I was driving to work this day, September 11, 2003, I felt chills down my back. I knew then that I had to do something to remember the tragedy of 2 years ago. As I read through the names of those who were killed, I stopped by your husband's name. I don't know why, but I did. I guess this is my way of remembering September 11th. So to your family and to all those families whose hearts cry today and always, my prayers and thoughts are with you and please take some comfort if any can be taken that on each September 11th I too will remember your husband!

Love,

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
