I never met Leon Lebor, but I found a white balloon in my backyard this morning. Attached to it was a white tag with his name on it. It was in remembrance of 9-11. I may never have met Leon, but I'm thinking of him today. I just thought someone should know. Rest in peace, Leon. You are not forgotten.

A friend gave me a white spruce to plant in honor of Leon. On the morning of Sept. 11, 2002, I put it in the ground and surrounded it with yellow mums. Then I looked up his biography on The New York Times site and was pleased to find out how well liked he was. I'm sorry I never knew him but now I will never forget him.

I had met Leon once in Brooklyn, NY in the early 1980's before I moved to California in Sept. 1983. It was at somebody's apartment and we got together for Talmudic studies and discussion. He was one of the men present which was how I got to be acquainted with him. I knew his former wife Barbara and had met his daughter once. At first I didn't think I would know anyone who did not survive the WTC disaster (nor Pentagon and Pennsylvania disasters). But when I learned that Leon was among others, I was sorry to learn that I indeed knew at least one person which was him. My sympathies to his family including his daughter.

Mr. Lebor would come to my office early in the morning and pointed to the men's key in the reception area and I would lend it to him. This happened a few times and he would always look grateful after bringing back the key.
One day I went out of the WTC complex and forgot my WTC I.D. The guard would not let me in. Mr. Lebor happened to be passing by and he told the guard that it was OK to let me in. I was so very grateful. From the beginning he struck me as a nice man.
Rest in Peace, Mr. Lebor.

America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
