On the 20th anniversary, the entire nation is remembering Antonio and the others lost on or because of the events of 9/11. I never knew Antonio, but similar circumstances connected me with his family and I will always think about them and the other families affected by 9/11, especially at this time of the year. Sending my love, thoughts, and hugs to Cristina, Sara, Adam, and extended family members and friends.

I cannot go through September 11 without thinking about Antonio, his family, and the others directly affected by the tragedy that happened 19 years ago. NBC News showed images from today's memorial service in New York City, and tears flowed when I heard Antonio's name being read. Sure...19 years have passed, but the grief I feel about the lives lost that day (or as a result of that day) has not faded.

Dear Antonio, It took me fifteen years before I decide to leave this message. It was our first and only encounter, and we click right on the spot! At a wedding in Mississauga! What a man! What a gentleman! During the wedding we were assigned to the same table and as the night progressed, we played some games and I played a trick on you. After fifteen long year I still have that dollar bill that bears your signature and mine. Because you told me that you will get back your money.... Dear Antonio, we will meet again to play again.

I can never forget 9/11/01, the lives lost, or the families and friends left behind. It was an event that brought this country together--and still brings us together each year. I especially am thinking of Antonio's family--Cristina, Sara, and Adam--today. Take care!

I just saw the movie World Trade Center and spotted a portuguese name in the Port Authority officers list that died...
As a portuguese citizen I can only express my condolences to the family and to all americans, and tell them that in Antonio's homeland, his heroic act is still noticed!

Joe Rod was a great guy. When I was in the hospital after hip replacement surgery, he was the only person who visited me that worked with me at St. John's University. I always enjoyed his company.

On the other hand I do believe you're on a better place, where only the good and generous can be.
I will never forget.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Antonio. Today I carried his name on a sign, Police Officer, Antonio Jose Rodrigues, Port Authority, in a 9/11 Memorial Service from downtown Portland, Maine to Maine's waterfront 9/11 Memorial. On my walk I dwelled on what kind of person Antonio was in the world. Ironic that I would randomly get the name of a man from Portugal as all who know me, know Portugal is my favorite travel destination! It was awesome to come here and read so many great things about this great man. My good thoughts and prayers to his wife, children, family and friends. His name is etched in my heart, a hero! His pic and bio are kept on my desk as a reminder to me to live my life fully for tomorrow is not guaranteed. Joe, if I may call you that, I hope when I get to the other side, if I am lucky enough to do so, I will introduce myself to you. Rest In Peace, Brother

Today, I choose to remember you. Though we never crossed paths we had many things in common. We share the same first names, we are both Portuguese, and could have been neighbors. What you did was courageous. Your sacrifice to help others will not be forgotten.

Toze as I called him was like a brother to me.
He was that kind of person we LOVE and ADMIRE for his noble actions, character and attitude, dreams and accomplishments.
I am deeply PROUD of my favorite cousin and TRUE friend.
Loosing him was like loosing some part of me.
I don’t have words to express what I’m feeling, only can say that I MISS him and since then he is ALWAYS in my THOUGHTS and my PRAYERS.
You are my Hero. I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU!
GOD Bless You!
GOD Bless your family.
GOD Bless our family.

For rememberance of Septmeber 11, Sickles High School, distributed ribbons with names of people who lost their innocent lives on that day. With great honor and pride, I wore Antonio Jose Carrusca Rodrigues' name for the whole day and continue to keep it with rememberance. I keep his family and friends in my prayers. God Bless!

I'm PROUD to say that Antonio (Joe)was and will always be my friend. We worked together at St. Johns University.Even when we both left there we remained close. I was proud of his many accomplishments. He always followed through on everything he made up his mind to do. Even when others tried to discourage him ,he would always prove them wrong. Joe as I called him was probably my only true friend. He never forgot me. I never forgot him either, I just wish I'd paid more attention to him and spent more time with him. I regret missing opportunities I had to spent time with him because of one reason or another. I regret not getting to know his wife and children better even though Cristina sends me the childrens picture at Christmas time. I hope at least that that will continue.I sometimes regret writing his recomendation for the Port Authority Police Dept.Maybe he would still be with us. I dont know, but I do know he loved what he did and he loved his wife and children. Antonio (joe) if you can hear me I miss you more than words can express and not a day goes by that you are not in my thoughts and my prayers. Your friend forever Jimmy Pryor

I am the librarian at the College of Aeronautics where Antonio went to school. I remember him very well -- he came into the library frequently. People tended to spell his last name with a 'Z' at the end instead of an 'S'. As a result, every time he came into the library he would remind me that he was "Rodrigues" with an 'S'. He was a great person and I am glad that I knew him even if it was briefly.

I never met Antonio, but felt connected with him and his family when I read that he left behind two children, Sara and Adam, since I also have two children -- named Sarah, who will be 10 in April, and Adam, who will be 8 January 24th. I now have something else in common with his family: my children are without their father, too. My husband, Al, passed away rather suddenly about six weeks after Antonio did, so I kind of know what his family is dealing with. Despite my own situation, I thought about Antonio's family and the other families who lost someone on September 11 a lot during the holidays. And I will continue to think about them; they will not be forgotten.

I was only 4 years old when I met Antonio and his beautiful wife. To me they were like role models when I was young. They had such an inspiring relationship to me. What he did on September 11th didn't only show me that in life you need to have strenght and faith but hope. To me he will always be like an uncle. Rest in Peace. You'll always be in our hearts... We thank Antonio for being in a profession where he helped protect people. We appreciate his dedication and the story of the rock. We are extremely sorry for your loss of Antonio. Our hearts cry with you.
America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
