Andy Kim Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 27, 2001.
The Spiritual Sort
As a child, Andy J. Kim developed his musical talents. He played piano, clarinet and guitar. During high school, he was in the marching band, the jazz band and the orchestra. At Columbia University, where he studied engineering and finance, he developed his spiritual side, working with the Campus Crusade for Christ.

After college, Mr. Kim, 26, was a research analyst for Fred Alger Management; in late July, he passed the certified financial analyst exam.

Although he lived in Leonia, N.J., he spent every moment he could at the Bethany United Methodist Church in Wayne, where his musicality and spirituality came together. He worked with the youth group and led the band that played during church services. Some said he was the best worship leader they had known.

He was especially excited when he was asked early this year to lead worship at Autumn Blaze, a gathering of about 6,000 young people scheduled for Oct. 13 in New Jersey. He even formed a special band for the event.

But they played without him. "We felt we should continue," said his companion, Michele Jhun, who sang in the band. "That is what Andy would have wanted."

You are missed Andy❤❤. You and Billy are indelibly etched into my heart and mind. As a child you were mischievous with your wide smile and twinkle in your eye. What a quick and bright mind you had. I think of you and remember you singing along to your favorite Sesame Street song, C is for Cookie. Following behind Charlie and running around our shared home in Woodside Queens. You always made me smile and we all miss you.
Forever in our hearts &❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Andy,

You were always singing.. Not just any old song or a pop hit, but you were always worshiping our Lord Jesus. And it was beautiful! I know you're still doing it now.

I'm ten years younger than you, but we grew up together. I remember your parents mentoring my parents through their spiritual walk and marriage. I remember being at your house one time in your living room, playing on the floor with my younger brother as our parents talked in the kitchen. Then you came home from your day and you just hurriedly went up to your room. But I remember my mom telling me to grow up and be like you. She told me to go up to your room and talk to you, just to glean some knowledge or wisdom from you. She put you up on a pedestal as the model child.. and that's what you are...
You were an amazing person that lived by faith with worship in your heart.
Thank you for leading the youth group at Bethany in worship for all those years. You're still leading us now.

Andy I still miss you alot. You are the only person in my entire life that has shown true kindness to me without anything in return. When I first met you you showed so much kindness to me a total stranger. To me at the time it was shocking because where I came from somebody does not show kindness unless they want something in return. You didn't want nothing but to only be my friend. I will always miss our conversations we had every sunday at church. Everytime we talked it made me the happiest person in the world because you actually cared what I had to say. I owe alot to you. Im not afraid to say that I love you my brother. You will always be in my heart. To honor you I have named my son's middle name after you ( Cameron Andrew Vargas) I will see you soon one day and I cant wait to just have another conversation with you. Love and miss you my friend my brother.

It's been three years since Andy's passing and I still can't believe it. I miss his beautiful voice, his infectious laugh, and his devotion to God and Bethany Church. He truly loved God and lived his life by Christ's example.

From a distance, all could see the love in Andy's heart and strength in his faith. Close up, you knew he was a man of God and felt privileged to have him in your life. Even though he is gone, he will never be forgotten for we continue to feel blessed to have known him.

Andy, I was blessed to have known you in your earlier years. At a time when I was confused as to my own spirituality, you were the first person I met that showed a true, sincere devotion to God. Your devout passion was always there even back at those times. The childhood memories I have of you will always be a part of me, as I continue through life. Thank you for the ever so many lives you've graciously touched and influenced along your journey. Most of all, thank you for giving me hope. You will always be in my heart. Rest in peace Andy.

You're There

Mentor,Brother and Friend

Does God ever tease us by sending a star like you into our lives?

Heaven is so close seeing how you loved and cared for us in your time.

But Now I know you're there

Hold on to his hand

You're forever with your love

and forever ever more

I know you're filled with tears

Tears full of joy

Sing to Him my friend

For endless years

Run with Him my friend

through beautiful Fields

Brace yourself

For this will never end

You spoke of it with passion

your heart for leaped for joy

Now it's in your hands

and there for you to enjoy

I used to attend Bethany UM Church before I moved to California this year and I know, from experience, the magnitude of your influence. You were a selfless man that gave up anything for everybody. You lived your life as a model Christian, stainless before God. I remember Pat Jdsn. talking about you that Sunday a year ago. You were a man, ridiculed for his fervent faith, a man who would take out his checkbook if anyone was in need of money to pay the rent, a man who was the BYG praise leader. Andy was someone who was deeply missed in our adult and youth congregations, missed but not forgotten. You left your imprint on many lives, forever. God bless.

We are very sorry for your loss of Andy. We thank him for his work with his church and youth groups. Such involvement comes with a warm and caring heart. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
