Keith Fairben Obituary
Keith Fairben was the adrenaline kid, always on the run, said his mother, Diane. He would get home from his job as a paramedic for New York Presbyterian Hospital, get on the cellphone, the home phone and his e- mail all at once, and then field calls from all his friends as they decided what movie to see that night or where to have dinner. Sometimes, to assuage the tension of his job, Mr. Fairben, 24, and his fellow paramedics would play practical jokes on their supervisor, Jack Delaney, one time smearing grease on his office doorknob so he couldn't get in.
But when Mr. Fairben was on the job he was in command, big and reassuring. And he was fast. Records of the Fire Department's Emergency Medical Service show that he and his partner, Mario Santoro, arrived at the World Trade Center within minutes after the first plane hit. They immediately got to work tending to the injured, running in and out of the building. At 9 a.m., Mr. Fairben's father, Kenneth, reached him on his cellphone, but Mr. Fairben said he was too busy to talk. The elder Mr. Fairben told his son to be careful. That was the last time he spoke to him.

I learned back in 2013 during a Fairbairn family reunion that I had a cousin named Keith who was lost on 9-11. And although I did not know you, had never met you, I felt grief for the cousin I would never get to know...and for your family's loss. You are a true selfless hero. 20 years since you went to your last call. I went to the Healing Fields in Tempe, AZ again. I stood by your flag and said a prayer for you and your parents.
I also reflected on all the possibilities that you had to look forward to prior to this day. I know you would have always brought pride to everyone who knows you.

20 years, where did that time go? You are always remembered for your bravery, for trying to help others without regard to your own safety.
I hope that your family has found some kind of peace and some kind of way to live without you over these 20 years. I’m sure the pain is just as fresh today as it was then, but maybe that pain can be dulled somewhat by knowing what a giving and caring person you were, and I am sure they are so proud of you. Memories are what they have left, but thank God for them, because they help carry a person through.

I have a dear friend, Teresa, and her son, Zack, who volunteer to put up the flags representing each person who perished that day. They always take special care of putting up and taking down your flag.
I have told them about you, your mom and dad and your uncle, volunteer heros all.
Every year, in September, I post your picture on my Facebook page in memory of the little boy I knew that grew up so big and strong. I also remember Diane and Kenny and how happy they were to have you and how proud they always were and are of you.

Dear Son,
Another Sept. 11th has come and gone.....Mom was busy reading the names of all those that were taken from us on that day. We were invited to attend a Memorial Service at Ft. Hamilton, you would have been very proud of how they honored all those we lost...and of course, We spent the morning at the Hospital. Keith, when You went to work for Ny Presbyterian you adopted a family not just workers. To this day, the four of you are so remembered, missed and loved. And we ended the day at Reliance. You would be so proud of your company. Everyone came together, to remember you and all those lost that morning. Your hospital, the First Battalion, your department and the entire company...It was emotional to say the least And I must not forget your closest friends, spent part of the day at the cemetery. And Yes the Malibu Bay Breezes were flowing....It means so much to Mom and I that this continues forever...You are missed and loved each and every day....I wish that I could hug you once more and maybe go get you a Bacon Egg and Cheese on a roll. My Dad worked in the twin towers but on his way to work all of a sudden his back went out so he never got on the train to go into the city! He lost a lot of friends and co- workers that day. He hasn't been the same since .There are so many stories but we never hear about all the brave people who tried to save lives and also the brave people who lost their lives!

Happy Birthday Keith. I just wanted to thank you for keeping an eye on me this past year as I recovered from my kidney transplant. My transplant date landed on your Birthday, October 20th, 2014. It's comforting to know that you were looking out for me and my donor on the day of my surgery. You have never stopped watching over others.

Happy birthday in heaven, sweet Keith. We thank you for watching over Danny as we mark the year anniversary of his kidney translplant on your birthday. I always smile and laugh to myself when I think of our time together when I babysat for you... we always had fun and you had a heart of gold.
We continue to pray for you each day. Please continue to watch over your parents as I know they miss you every day.
