Jonathan, tho I never met you - my loss- I was a teacher at GNS Middle School We had a special day celebrating your life with your wife and children It was a wonderful day thinking of you and thanking you for your service bravery and love

You were remembered today. After seeing a picture of you in a 2008 video documentary, I Googled your name and read your story. I thank you for your heroic service. For going into a place others fought to get out of. The pain from that day remains all of the years lost from those like you who had so much life and potential ahead. I pray your family and friends have found comfort in the memories of times shared. We will never forget. May you rest in eternal peace

Jonathan, I'm sure you miss your family as much as we all miss you, I am certain that you're with your brothers, and that you're at peace for a job well done. You'll always be remembered and thought of as a great New York City firefighter, following in your father's footsteps. And without a question, I'm sure there isn't a day that goes by,that he doesn't think about you, as so many others that were lost. May God always bless you!,and keep you and your family at peace and protect your loving children.unfortunately& wife.Your passing way before your time, and you passes while-doing a job that you love so much, in the performance of duty while trying to protect others. I hope you find relief in that with your brothers and sisters at your side. And in your heart I know better than anyone that we will all be reunited someday. May you always continue to bless, your loving family and give them peace. I wish I had had The opportunity to have met you before you had to go, but if you were anything like you're very proud father, you always be remembered as a very proud New York City firefighter. and a real gentleman. Rest and peace sincerely and always.

Lee I just want to take opportunity to express my sincerest condolences. I'm sure there's not a day that goes by that you don't think of Jonathan, I often think of you as well as both of our Brothers that were lost. I retired from the district of Columbia fire department, and offered remember telling others about you and RS2. And how proud you must be of your son, following in your footsteps. It remains heart breakings. To think back about your tremendous loss, and may God always protect you, your family as well Jonathan's family. knowing that we will all meet again, when we met last Fire department headquarters, I can honestly say my sorrow for your loss were beyond words. I am proud to have had the opportunity to call you friend and I wished there are more things that I could have done as we all do.but knowing if this helps relieve any pain that Jonathan passed, trying to save others and doing a job that he loved so much. May give you some relief, I have a son now that will be taking the next San Antonio fire department exam, and thinking back about you and what you've had to go through leaves me with very mixed emotions. Lee may God always bless you and your family

Every year, no matter where I am living this day will always be with me as it is for so many others. Living in Great Neck across from the Ielpi's I knew the family and Jonathan as well. I did enjoy seeing Jonathan's father on tv talking about his tribute and ongoing memorial for all the fallen. May time help in the healing process, but we all will NEVER forget.
God Bless my neighbor.

Sept 11, is a hard day for so many of us. As I turned on the news this morning I was greeted with the images of Lee Ielpi, speaking of his son Jon whom we lost on this tragic day.
While I was not in FDNY, I served with Jon as a volunteer firefighter in Great Neck for several years. I remember the soft ball games, going to a middle of the night fire call with my foot solidly on the siren and making him crazy as he drove the truck; bringing him home very early, or perhaps very late from a party-the sun was just coming up- and how crazy he was the day his first child was to be born-in the good way a new father is crazy.
I continue in the fire service today, now in Dutchess County, NY, and thought of Jon very much this morning as we had a small service at our fire house to honor those who were lost.
God Bless you Jon, wherever you may be-look over us as we continue the noble and honorable service to community as you did, and God bless your family that they may find comfort with memories of you today and everyday.

On the eve of September the 11, 2015 I humbly and sincerely admit that Jonathan Lee Ielpi heroic sacrifice weighs heavily on America's heart. Tomorrow Nashville's Fire Department will announce its taking possession of a piece of the World Trade Center. With that symbol we will never forget the sacrifice, we will continue to honor those that gave their lives to protect the citizens they served. We will display that symbol to educate firemen and paramedics currently serving and who will enter and take the oath to serve in the months and years to come. May God bless the Ielpi family.

I miss you so much today. I miss you every day but today, for some reason, all I have been doing is thinking about you. Ten years later, and I still cry when I think of certain things. It still hurts that you arent here. I still wish for a phone call, or for you to show up at the door. I wish for you to be sitting at mom and dad's table when I walk in the back door. I still wish we could share one more drink together, have one more story to tel, one more day to drive around for no real reason at all. One more hour to tell you about every thing you have missed, one more minute to tell you I love you, one more second to say good bye. Just one more hug, one more word, one more time to see your face.
I just miss you so much today. I miss you so much every day. I just miss you

Mr. Ielpi, A week ago today i wore a picture of you around my neck while climbing 110 stories at the Qwest building here in Denver Colorado. In full bunker gear, high-rise pack, forcible entry tools, and air pack, i couldnt do but think one thing. That was to carry your memory the whole 110 stories and let you look out over the roof and view the beautiful Rocky Mountains and Denver Skyline. I did just that by holding your picture out over the parapet wall. Your courage, dedication, and bravery on that morning is appreciated and will never be forgotten. May your soul rest peacefully watching down over your family and loved ones. God Bless.

Mr. Ielpi, my name is Steve Espinoza, I am a Phoenix Firefighter. I have seen you numerous times on a variety of shows concerning 9/11. I just saw another concerning your son Jonathan and the ten years that have passed by. I just wanted to let you know, we here at the Phoenix Fire Department think of your son, his and your brothers on a daily basis, and we will never forget them. We have a poster with all 343 brothers we lost that day. You are right when you say the terrorists didn't win that day, they only showed the heroes like Jonathan in this country. I'm amazed at your strength you continue to show on a daily basis. I personally have not suffered a tragic loss as you,god willing I won't as my older son now pursues to be a firefighter as his father, but if I ever do, I hope to be as strong, courageous as you are sir. My god bless you and your family.

I miss the days when we sat in Sister Gerald's class . I miss when we were altar boys and we laughed that time your cassock caught fire one midnight mass. Who knew when we were putting it out that you would dedicate your life to doing just that. Life is funny. Of all the heroes of 9/11 Jonathon has left the greatest impression on me. I never meet him, I never knew him, but...he is remembered by strangers for his bravery, his courage his belief that he could, would and did help to save many lives. May his family be proud of him and his sons remember that their father had the heroism to go into a situation that most would run from in terror. You are your fathers greatest accomplishment and gift to your family, his heroism was his greatest gift to the people he helped save and their families. Our prayers are with you.

To the Ielpi Family,
As we approach the tenth anniversary of that horrific day, I wanted to let you know WE REMEMBER, ALWAYS. My thoughts and prayers are with you today . Thank you for having the courage to tell your son's story, and be the voices for not only Jonathan, but for all those lives taken that day . Your son would be, and is so proud of his family. To have the ultimate reason to hate, and to choose not to. To seek justice as you so eloquently spoke of instead of anger. America is proud. America is free, America is United, America is you. Forever etched in our hearts. Thank you for turning your grief into good. It takes a special person to do all the wonderful things you do, in spite of your loss, your sadness, you go on continuing the good your son was meant to do. As proud as you and the world are of him, he knows all the good you are doing. He is proud. America is proud. God Bless you! United we Stand, we will NEVER FORGET!

Hello,
I was very grateful to meet your father today, he is an extraordinary and well respected man. I had contacted the FDNY family assistance unit in hope to obtain a peice of steel from the world trade center. My father lost his brother FF Raymond R. York that September morning and he was never the same. I always wanted to get him something with real meaning and honor of my uncle. The family assistance unit transferred me to your father. He was very polite and invited me to meet with him. I over seen the memorial site in progress from his office building and it was spectacular. He pointed out many details. He than took me to his office and handed me a raw piece of steel with a story behind it. This particular piece has an anchoring hole in it, which at one time held a bolt to the concrete structure. I was very pleased to have received it and appreciate everything the man does. Rest in peace Jonathan Ielpi and I hope to meet you and see my uncle someday again.

JONATHAN LEE IELPI .. As September 11th is approaching us we both find ourselves thinking of you and your family. We had the pleasure of meeting your wonderful dad last September at Ground Zero. My sister and i recognized him from a documentary just aired in london about 9/11 before our visit . We had commented on
his demeanour , which was why we couldnt get him out of our thoughts. So to come face to face with this special gentleman was a real honour for us.It was the most poignant moment of our whole trip.So for us we feel that fate had intervened and we were meant to meet. We both feel that we have a personal connection with you now even though we had never met .so on September 11th my sister and i will be wearing our tribute centre t shirts and flying our American flags with pride...in honour of you ,The Ielpi family and all those who lost their lives and their loved ones. GOD BLESS AMERICA....Karen and Keeley LANGTON FROM LONDON

Nine years ago today, September 9 2001, was the last time we were all together with Jonathan. We were at the Alerts 100th anniversary. It was such an amazing and special day. The entire family was there (including the future brother's and sister-in-law). We all sat together on the hill with the family and our close friends and we laughed. I haven't had a day since then, where I have laughed so much. I will never get over Jonathan's death it has been 9 years now and I still don't want to accept it. I at times still expect him to walk through the door telling me he is fine and that I am just being the drama queen that I am. I love him so much, and I will always miss him. He was the best friend a person could ever ask for and the best big brother in the world. I love you and miss you always Jonathan!!
Love your little sister

Another birthday has come and gone with out you. You would be 38 today. I wonder how grey your hair would be.
I miss you so much Jonathan. I talk about you all the time to Gavin and Sydney. Gavin wants to know when he will be able to meet you. He knows you are an angel but he doesnt understand why you cant come down from heaven to see him. Maybe one day you can introduce yourself to him in his dreams. I know he would love that. the kids will always know who their Uncle Jonathan is and once they are old enough, they will have a bracelet on with your name just like the rest of the family does. They will grow up knowing that their Uncle died a hero and was one of the bravest men who ever stepped on this earth.
I am going to try and sleep now. I hope to see you in my dreams tonight so that we can have a birthday drink together. We always had so much fun on your birthday. I miss you with all my heart and can not wait until we meat again in heaven.
I will love you always!

Dear Jonathan Ielpi,
it is obvious that you were a great man that many people love.Especially your sister Melissa who seems to post on here often about how much she loves and misses you. her posts made me cry and im still crying as i type this. i cant even imagine what you went through on that horrible day and what your family is going through now. Coming up in a couple weeks i am taking a trip with my school Shiloh Middle to the tribute museum, ground zero, Engine 10, and Rescue 1. I believe im going to have the honor of meeting your father at the museum and i am extremely excited about the whole trip. i was assigned you as my hero to research and make a memorial to be put on display. i am asking your friends and family if they can give me any info on you. it would be greatly appreciated if they do respond. Thank you so much for your bravery on that horrible day.
Sincerely,

Dear Ielpi family,
I met Austin as he started kindergarten in Westminster, Vt. in 2002. I was substitute teaching in his class for the teacher's aide. We went to music class where Austin approached me & asked to sit on my lap. I ushered him up, & a few minutes later when the teacher was singing, Austin looked up at me with tears in his eyes & said he missed his daddy. I had no idea he'd lost his daddy to 9/11, but being a mom of two sons I immediately teared up & held him tight. I learned later about his daddy, & have never forgotten that day. I think of Austin & the Ielpi family so often, & hope that the thought of Austin & Andrew's daddy holding them in his strong arms gives them peace. Austin, I read your entries & please know I'm thinking of you, & hope you know your daddy is holding you always.
My thoughts & prayers to you all

Jonathan -
Thank you so much for what you, your father, and your brother gave to America that day. "The Cross and the Towers" is an amazing tribute to your memory and in it, your father shines like a ray of hope for those who lost loved ones that day. I'm from Georgia. I was lucky to not have anyone directly affected that day, but I love the city of New York. Today is a special day, but you and your fallen brothers and sisters are remembered every day...even by those who never met you. The most I can say is THANK YOU!

Dear Jonathan,
I can never come up with the right words to describe how much you meant to so many of us. I pray that you are in Gods grace and that your love will comfort your friends and family here on earth. I think of you often and fondly remember the last time I saw you, and the good times spent at CJ's a long long time ago. Today I thank God and thank you for your bravery, & inspiration.

Dear Mr. Ielpi:
Being a hero is someone who helps other people with their needs before their own. I’m saying you’re a hero for saving lives on September 11, 2001. You put your own life out on the line just for others and I want to thank you for doing that. I understand that being a firefighter is risky and you are a brave man for becoming one.
Everyone who is American is thankful for your service on September 11th. Lots of people died on that day but you saved alot of people. I admire you for being one of the brave men and women who fought saving other lives who were in danger.
Everyone will remember this tragic day, and most important we will remember the brave men and women who saved lives. You will never be forgotten for this sad day. Everyday people think about this day that happened. You will never be forgotten.
Thank you so much for being brave.
Sincerely
Jonathon Wheeler

I did not know you, but you paid the ultimate price for so many that you did not know. It's been 8 years today, and 8 years ago I had no idea or clue who Jonathan Lee Ielpi was, but today as I scroll down through the victims list I can see that you are a true hero. Not many of us get to even meet an hero, so your family and friends must feel so lucky. Rest in peace Mr.Ielpi....thank-you for being who you were and for giving what you gave. Please watch over your family and friends and those who are fighting back for what was done to you and the whole nation. I did not know you, but today I feel as if I did.

The story of Jonathan and his father's (and family's) search for him was an inspiration, in the depths of such loss and despair. From 3,500 miles away in London, I was moved to visit Ground Zero in 2008 and to remember the stories of so many extraordinary men and women who faced such horror and did not flinch. A few weeks ago, on the beautiful, rugged west coast of Ireland - my native land - where the next stop is New York, I thought of Mr Ielpi and his family and all those who suffered on and from that dreadful day on. My thoughts and prayers were all that I could offer: "Ar dheis De go raibh a h-ainm dilis" - With God be his sweet name. With deep respect and admiration. Helen, London.

Thank you for your bravery and courage on 9/11. You are known as a great hero that day, along with the other firefighters. You will always be remembered. We know that you and all the other victims are in a better place now.

I miss you Jonathan! Not a day has gone by that I havent thought of you. I cant believe that it has been so long.
Thank you so much for everything that you have given to me and to all of the family. I know you are watching over us every day and that you see all that is going on (even the bad and stupid).
You are finally going to get the Rescue that you always wanted. The Vigilant are dedicating there new Rescue truck to you this June. (they are bragging that is is 2 inches longer then a city Rescue truck). I am sure the wet down will be a great day full of stories about you and everything that you did.
I hope to see you soon in my dreams. Even if it is you just laughing at me from the door way. I miss you Jonathan, and it is so hard to be here with out you. I will never forget you, I love you so much. Thank you for being such an amazing big brother, even from heaven.
Love your little sister,
Melissa

Bro. i miss you very much. ever since you left us i haven't gone back to NY. I am finding it hard to even stay in touch with anyone from up there because of the memories. i have been doing ok. i spent time in the military as a NAVY diver with the SEA BEES then became a cope in Orlando Fl. But all and all it want what i thought it would be. my heart is with the fire service. i have been doing it since 1989 and you and i fought a lot of fires together. we both spilled our blood all over. from water town NY to plan crashes at JFK. i spent the last year going threw training down in FL to transfer over my NY certs. now i am working as a contract fire fighter doing contracts around the world. right now i am working in Manta Ecuador in south America. i am on a Air base that covers the base and local city as well. i am on engine 10 and rescue 3. i also do extra details with the crash units and tach rescue team. i miss you and every time i train work and go to school i wish you were with me again.
All my love Scott Weil

Mr. Ielpi and Family, I learned your story last March on the CBS Evening News--the story about the christening of the USS New York. I Googled your and Jonathan's names to learn more. During the summer, while browsing Barnes & Noble's website, I found Requiem: Images of Ground Zero. I managed to find and purchase a secondhand copy of the book online. Last week, on You Tube, I found the 2002 Charlie Rose program on which you appeared with Dennis Smith, Robert Higgins, and James Efthiamades. I know that December 11 will mark the anniversary of the recovery of Jonathan's body. My thoughts will be with you. My heartfelt thanks for sharing your experiences--and for giving me this opportunity to say, "I care."
