I happened to see Dana’s name on a list of the fallen and knew exactly who he was. He was a year ahead of me but shared the same bus stop in high school. Always one of the nicest guys. I was not popular but that did not matter to him. He treated me as if that had no bearing at all. I had always wondered about him throughout the years and I now know. It’s been 22 years but I am still so so sorry for your loss. Dana was one of the good ones. My deepest condolences
Praying for the Hannon family today.

I had the honor of researching the bravery and sacrifice of Dana Hannon before chaperoning a field trip to the 9/11 Memorial. Since the attacks 18 years ago, I pray for the families and survivors whenever I pass a clock that says 9:11. Since learning of Danas ultimate sacrifice, I add his parents, family and friends to my prayers for peace and comfort. Much love to you all.

My name is Chad Brienza. I was a classmate and close friend of Dana's at Ramapo HS. One day Dana and i were standing by his locker joking around as usual and he said "Im thinking about joining the Wyckoff Fire Dept." I thought he was joking so I said "Yeah, why not. In fact, let's both do it! " He said "Really? Ok." Still thinking he was jesting, i said "I dare you sign up", to which he returned the challenge. Within days I found myself standing next to Dana at WFD Co.1 signing the paperwork! Soon we had scanners, emergency alert pagers and blue lights in our cars and were on the list for the next class at the academy in Mahwah. We drove together to every class, and we were both excited to be part of the Dept. It was an awesome experience and I owe Dana for putting me to the challenge. During the rides to class at night we became very close. I consider him my brother and would have trusted him in any situation. There are a few incredible stories of things that happened to us on the dark, winding roads between home and the academy on those cold winter nights that i would love to share with his family. If anyone is in contact with them, please pass on my number to them. Though my parents still live about 10 houses from the Dept, I currently reside in Sandy Eggo, Ca.
God bless.
Sincerely, Chad Brienza

To: The friends and family of Dana Hannon
For my groups History project we decided to choose your loved one, Dana Hannon. We studied him, learned about him and he stood out to us, out of hundreds of other people. I believe that he did something very positive, while he was alive and even after he passed. He was a hero and his bravery should be recognized.
We came up with the idea of an important memorial that represented Dana. It would be in his hometown, somewhere special. The memorial would be split in half, one being meaningful, the part of him away from being a firefighter and what happened on 9/11. Since he loved hunting, the background of one side would be the woods or forest with the animals he hunted. He seemed romantic and caring, so in the front of the wood scene, would be the bridge that he proposed to his girlfriend on. The other side of the memorial would be a building of the South tower, where he was last seen. A big 5 on the inside, standing for the last floor he was on. The fire all torn down like it just collapsed and fire with rubble everywhere.
It was just an idea, but Dana should be remembered for his bravery. Even though i was too young to remember, from learning throughout the years in History class, I have gained knowledge about that day and now Dana. He was courageous, spontaneous and Im sure hes still missed dearly. He seemed like a great guy.
Thank you for your time,
Liz S.

My name is Lindsay. I am from Miami, FL, but am visiting here in NY. I went to the 9/11 memorial today and saw all the names surrounding the falls. I remember that day from afar. I watched it on TV, called to see if my family members were ok, and then just watched to see what happened. The experience was not the same for me as it was for you, but we all felt something. Today, the names around the fountain were just names to me, people I would never know. But when I stop to think about it, the whole point of the memorial is to remember. So, tonight I went online and looked up every name I could make out in the pictures. Please know that I have read about the hero that your son was and even though I will never meet him, he is remembered now. He is no longer just a name around the fountain. I will pray for your family tonight. Thank you for sharing your sons name with us, and let the word have a little taste of the man your son was.

Hello Extended Family of Dana Hannon,
While watching the series finale of 'Rescue Me', a 'Wall of Memory' was shown with the names of the 9/11 victims.
I noticed Dana's name 2 or 3 times, and for some unknown but compelling reason, decided to honour his--and others'--memory by searching his name online; thus the reason for this message.

Dear Mr. Hannon:
A hero is someone who putts his\her life on the line to save others in need of help. And that is what you did on September 11 2001. For only being 29 and to have you life taken away is sad but you did it while saving lives. You are a true hero to me.
America is grateful of you determination to save others and to make the ultimate sacrifice. As a firefighter you chose to help others. And for that I am thankful.
I am positive that America will never forget you and all you have done for us and are country. Every Patriot Day, every Americans will remember you and your heroic spirit. For that you are a true hero.

A hero to me is one who is willing to risk their life to save another. A hero is brave, strong, and is a good role model. Thank you so much for being a hero on September 11, 2001. You are a hero to me for what you did on that tragic day.
So many people died on September 11, 2001 but you risk your own life to save another. We are so thankful for your sacrifice. Your fiancé misses you a lot and so does your sister. The town of Wyckoff misses your bravery and hunting skills.
You will never be forgotten for the great service you gave that day. On every Patriot Day we will remember you and the other heroes of September 11, 2001.

Dear Mr. Hannon,
A hero to me is someone who puts others before themselves. You took a risk for others safety, so therefore, you are a hero to everyone. You saved numbers of lives from the awful attack at the twin tower on 9/11/01. You didn’t let fear get in the way, instead, you had a burst of bravery, and I’d like to thank you for your generous deed to our fellow Americans.
I'm very grateful for your sacrifice on that tragic day. Your fiancé, Alison, probably misses you extremely much. She’s probably really proud of your deed, as am I. Your sister says “…the best brother I could’ve asked for” Even though I didn’t know you personally, America misses your great carpenter skills, and love of hunting.
Americans everywhere greave the loss of everyone killed in this attack, firefighters, victims, and police officers. Nobody knew the tragedy that was about to occur, but you won’t be forgotten. Now you even have your own memorial in New York City. This Patriot Day and the ones to come we, as Americans, will never forget everyone that severed on this horrible day.

Dear Mr. Dana Hannon,
You are a hero. A hero to me is the type of person people look up to and depend on. On September 11th, eight years ago, you risked your life to save people that were in need. A firefighter is a dangerous lob, but you took the challenge and you achieved your goal of graduating from college.
Your Finance Allison, your sister Kyle, and your parents will miss you very much on this day. Camping, hunting, and fishing were some of your favorite things and those things will carry over to heaven with you and you will live a better life in heaven. For the things you are losing, we are even more thankful for your service and your sacrifice for the beautiful country of the United States of America.
The whole country will remember you always and epically on this day. Fire Ladder Co. 26 will always remember you too. Thank you for what you did for our country. You are truly what I call a hero.
Thanks so much for your service.

To the Family of FF Dana Hannon,
I am a Lieutenant on a metro-Denver Colorado fire department. Yesterday we held a memorial stair climb in honor of our fallen FDNY brothers. I wore a picture of your beloved Dana around my neck and will forever keep it in my fire helmet. Dana's influence has stretched further across the fire service then you probably know. Dana instructed many life saving techniques to firefighter's around the country at the annual FDIC in Indianapolis. His techniques are still keeping us safe today. I vow to Never Forget, Never allow a new recruit to not know who Dana is, and keep you and Dana in my prayers. Your son was with me on every step yesterday and every step into the future. God bless.

If you ever doubt the bravery of this man and his fellow firefighters watch the videos of 9/11 as I saw yesterday. Dana defined the words bravery and dedication. He did this when he put his life on the line to save others when he ran to what was the worst scene I have ever witnessed. We can never forget the sacrifice he and his family made.
I can only hope to half the man he was. I'm proud of you.

With 9/11/06 approaching, it's hard to believe that five years have gone by since the loss of so many on that day. My son served with Dana when he was with Bridgeport Fire Department. (they went through the fire academy together and started as rookies.) They became very close during the first year at Bridgeport. I remember them swaping shifts and sharing the very beginnings of their careers. Life was wonderful and exciting, doing what they both wanted to do for so long; a dream come true!
We all still feel the effects of the loss of not only Dana but all the other heros on that day! I don't believe my son will ever really understand why Dana was taken from all of us...only knowing that he was doing what he loved to do best, what his calling was. He was such a courageous and selfless person with the heart of a true firefighter.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Dana's family, financee and friends! He will always be remembered in our hearts!

Dana and I grew up a few blocks away from each other. We both grew up running around and climbing on the firetrucks at the Wyckoff Fire Department, where our fathers were members and friends. The last time I saw Dana was at my father's funeral in June of 2001. I feel very honored that Dana helped carry my father's casket at the funeral, which was a full-blown firemen's service. Much of the day is a blur to me but one moment that sticks in my memory is when, near the end of the graveside service, when Amazing Grace was being played on the bagpipes, I glanced over to the line of firemen, and, through my own tears, I saw Dana, with tears streaming down his face. After hearing of the loss of Dana at the attack on 9/11, that sight of him at my father's funeral has been permanently etched into my memory. I will see that face whenever I think about the events on 9/11. I will never forget the bravery of Dana and all the other firemen nor will I forget all of the other innocent people who lost their life on that awful day.

The Hannon's & Allison:
Dana was an inspiration to all that new him, especially me. We worked side by side before his firefighting career began and the friendship we had was one I truely cherished. When he was planning his engagement was the last time we had met. I could tell he was so happy of how his career path had brought him to the city. I will always remember him as the firefighter with the biggest heart.

To Kyle, Allsion, and Dana's family,
I had the privilege of meeting Kyle on a flight from Italy. Kyle was more than willing to share her special thoughts of Dana, Allison, and their family, despite that I was a total stranger. She was incredibly well adjusted and admirably strong, even though I had tears in my eyes as she spoke.
I now wear a Mercy Band with Dana's name and have a wonderful picture in my office of Kyle and Dana while they were in Australia. Even though I have never met Dana in person, I have through Kyle's words, for which I am very fortunate.
Before meeting Kyle I knew I appreciated and felt for everyone who lost their lives in 911. Since our meeting I am more aware that behind each life lost, there are so many layers of significance for each and every person who gave of themselves.
Kyle, thank you for sharing your time and life. God bless you and your family.

To the family of Dana Rey Hannon... I would like to express my deepest condolences to you all and to all that knew him. I have the honor of wearing Dana's name each day, on a Mercy "BAND" (bearing another's name daily) I have worn it each day since I purchased it on December 10th. I say a prayer for him as I put it on each morning and also for the survivors he has left behind. I pray that God will wrap His loving arms of comfort around each of you. I am so sorry that our country has had to experience this terrible tragedy, and I am so sorry that so many innocent victims died at the hands of misguided terrorists. But I thank God that there are/were firefighters, like Dana, to be humble enough to put others lives before their own, and risk everything to save, serve and protect, to the point of giving up their own life in that cause. You must be very proud of him.
Again, with deepest sympathy for your loss. SROvermier

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

We want to extend our sincere condolences to the Hannon family. We met Dana through our mutual friend Emilio. We shared a trip to Peter Luger's a couple of years ago and we would see Dana occassionally at Emil's butcher shop. Even though we only spent a small amount of time with Dana, we think of him often. That's the kind of person he was. His memory will be with those he touched forever. God Bless you.

To the Family of Dana Hannon,
My name is Amy and I am an employee of the US government serving in Seoul, Korea.
On October 20, I participated in a walk-a-thon organized by the students from the high school where I work as a teacher. The money raised by this event will be distributed to relief organizations benefiting the families and the survivors of the terrorist attacks.
I personally would like to offer my sympathy to you and your family. I know there is not much I can do being so far away from home, but I did want you to know that my personal "walk" on October 20 was dedicated to the memory of Mr. Hannon.
Sincerely,
Amy Wasson

Dana, Rest in peace with God. You are one of his angels, now! One of so many who graced God's doorstep on September 11. I am so sorry for your loss!
