Today I walk in the Tunnel 2 Towers Walk in Palm Coast, Florida to honor Robert King, Jr's memory and so many other great heroes of 9/11. I wanted to know him a little better so I could think about him and his family as I walk this morning. He was a wonderful husband, son and father in his too short life. It is a honor to walk with him on my sleeve today.

To the King family, I am truly so sorry for such a tragic loss. Today marks 22 years since that horrible day. Yesterday, I climbed 110 flights of stairs at the San Diego 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb and had the honor of doing it for Robert King Jr. I´ve since learned a little about who he was and he seemed like a genuinely good man who loved his job as a firefighter.

In Sacramento CA there is a memorial climb to honor the 343. Only 343 sworn firefighters are allowed to sign up and each recieves the name and bio of one of our fallen brothers. The first year I did it, I was given the honor of carrying Robert's name to the top. The turnout material that read "KING JR" was placed on my own jacket over my name. I represented him for 110 proud stories. At the top of the climb (atop the renaissance tower) I removed his name and placed it on the replica tower statue and rang the bell once in commemoration of him. It is a great tribute set up by a few Sacramento firefighters. Kudos to them for helping us get out and do our part to not forget what King Jr and his brothers did that day.

Dear Bobby:
I can't believe that it has been 9 years since that awful tragic day! I miss you and think of you all the time.I stayed home yesterday and watched everything that happened that fateful day! I know that sounds morbid to watch it all day but no one should ever forget that Tuesday morning in September when you along with 2,751 other innocent souls lost their lives because of the sick acts of terrorists! It's a piece history and should never ever be forgotten! I am unsure if those people who do not remember that day would if they had lost a family member or a friend, but I would never ever wish that upon anyone as I know how hard it is for me and the rest of our family!:'( It's a really somber day that never heals completely! Its just like a scab... it stops the bleeding at first but if it is picked the blood starts gushing again and the blood is the thousands of tears that I have shed since that sad day!:'( I think of all of the events that happened all at once on that day from the World Trade Center to the airplanes, to the Pentagon and to what happened in Pennsylvania! No one can imagine what have been like to actually live those events not knowing if you were going to make it out or not! Yesterday I had a cooler light beer for you at noon. I don't usually drink beer but It was for you I wish we could have been sharing it together though!:'( I couldn't hardly keep the tears from falling down my cheek while drinking it! I feel like I drank more tears than the beer itself! Cheers! I remember when we were at the table and we would make the glasses cling together, it's just not the same anymore without you! God Bless all those who were lost from those who rushed into those buildings to save the civilians like you to the ones who unknowingly walked onto a plane that would be taken over by terrorists that would be crashed into those two buildings that reach towards the Heavens, and the stewardesses who relayed the information to the ground about the beginnings of attacks who were the first heroes in the war against terror! And those who went into those buildings for work... I cant believe that if some people who got into work early would have been late that day they could have still walking this Earth! God Bless America!!!!!
I miss you and Love you forever,
your sister Barbara (Bubba) <3

I happened upon this site almost by accident. For more than six years I have worn a bracelet with the name of FF Robert C. King on it. Living here in California, 9-11 left many people feeling quite helpless and yet wanting to do something. I sent a donation to some fund, not knowing what else to do. A week or so later a small package arrived by mail and inside was the bracelet. I put it on and have not taken it off since. For not knowing FF King, I certainly talk to him a lot. And I believe he talks back, in his own way. I am reminded to be grateful...I am encouraged to be courageous and strong...I stay mindful of the fact that life can be short and love is precious, and one never knows what tomorrow will bring. As odd as it may sound, I feel I am a better person as a result of the loss of FF King.

Canine KKing who is named after Robert King is assigned to the National Explosives Detection Canine Training Team Program (NEDCTP). KKing is scheduled to graduate on March 14, 2008. KKing will be assigned to JFK airport where he will sniff for explosives. I am a canine instructor with the NEDCTP and had the opportunity to be a foster family for KKing until he was old enough to enter formal training.

I work for the Department of Homeland Security (TSA) as a canine Instructor/Trainer. I train police officers and their canines to search for explosives to help keep our transportation systems safe. The canines we use are highly skilled. It is not easy to find canines that meet our standard and when we do they are expensive. TSA began a canine breeding program to produce extra canines. When a puppy is born, they are given the name of a 9-11 victim as way to honor those people. The puppy (almost 8 months old) I am raising was named after Robert King. I hope you don’t find this offensive. If the family of Mr. King is interested in hearing more about this program I would be honored to share the information.

My dearest Bobby,
It seems that so much time has passed since I lost you and yet not a day goes by that I don't think of you. The pain has lessened but still runs deep. It's been over four years and as I write this the tears are yet again falling. My heart breaks for a love lost and a future not met. For the loss of my best friend. When I look around and I see older people holding hands I feel so empty, that was supposed to be us. We were going to grow old together. We were supposed to enjoy all the great times with our children and grandchildren. I think of Elizabeth and wonder how it's possible that one day she will walk down the aisle and not have you to give her away. You were my first love and I was so lucky to have had you in my life, even for so short a time. I see you every day when I look at our three beautiful children. You were a fantastic dad and it breaks my heart that they no longer have you in their lives. It just doesn't seem fair. I talk about you and share my memories with them so that you will never be forgotten. I will always remember one of them on your shoulders or sleeping on your chest. Working on some project in the basement listening to CBS FM. Your laugh and how addictive it was. Your great meals even though I was the guinea pig. If I close my eyes I can still feel your body pressed against mine as we danced. Your smile. Your love of life. I can only hope that I will be a good parent and instill all the values in them that were so important to both of us. I hope that you knew how much I loved you and will always love you. I know that we will be together again for all of eternity and that thought is what keeps me going. You were the best thing in my life and I will never stop missing you! Until we meet again my love,
Theresa

We thank Robert for dedicating his life to helping others as a firefighter. Such dedication comes with a brave, warm and caring heart. We thank Robert for sharing his heart with so many others each time he was called out. May his courage, warmth, his life and love live on in those who love him. We are very sorry for your loss of Robert. Our hearts cry with you.

We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

Dear Robert,
What do you say to someone you never met and know you never will?
I am sorry? Rest In Peace? I know you will be missed? These are just some of the things I know are true on this Christmas Eve and every other day.
I believe Christmas time is the time for Angels to make their presence known and if that is true, you are looking down from your new home in Heaven, with God, on us all.
I believe Angels also have their own special star and at night when I look at the Heavens I wonder whose special star I am looking at. Is it yours or one of your fellow firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11?
Rest In Peace, Robert! God Bless you and God Bless your loved ones you left behind.
