I had the honor or carrying a badge with Jimmy’s name and picture on it for our 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb today at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. At 78 ‘flights’ I rang the bell in his honor. Jimmy seemed like a great guy. My birthday is the day after his, I will have a drink for Jimmy to celebrate our birthdays. My heart is with his family. May you find peace knowing what a hero your son/brother was and still is to this day.

Hey Jimmy.... 17 years...feels like yesterday... have that pit in my stomach today... same as I did that day... it seems like yesterday.... wanted to say Thanks for all the visits... much more lately...I guess you knew I needed them... and I'm sure you laugh (and think I'm a bit crazy...) when you hear my little partner in crime say "Mama look... it's Jimmy Riches coming to say hi again!" :) and we both look and smile knowing its a message from you! For what its worth, this day isn't any easier now all these years later.... but it must make you smile to know that you are thought of and spoken of so often.. your memory continues to live on.... and you continue to make people smile from Heaven.... Rest easy Jimmy... Happy Birthday tomorrow and Thanks again! xoxo

Hey Jimmy.... I can't believe it's been 15 years that you're gone... i woke up this morning with that same nauseating feeling I had that morning so many years ago when I heard you were missing..... thanks for all the signs.... When I get them I immediately smile and somehow feel just a bit reassured that your okay up there....keep them coming... God Bless you...always in our hearts.....

While I never met you, I have a remembrance of you that I honor every September 11th and 12th in honor of your sacrifice and your birthday. I purchased a commemorative bracelet from the FDNY Foundation and received your name. My brother-in-law and his family are all firefighters. I will honor your sacrifice always.
We lost a wonderful young man from my church that day who worked at the WTC for Cantor Fitzgerald. Too many lives cut short.

You will never be forgotten....your memory lives on.....Happy Birthday tomorrow....Xoxo

“The thing about a hero, is even when it doesn't look like there's a light at the end of the tunnel, he's going to keep digging, he's going to keep trying to do right and make up for what's gone before, just because that's who he is.”
Happy 13th Anniversary in Heaven to our hero & friend.

Sending my prayers to Chief Riches and family as you continue to feel the loss of your son, brother, and hero. I was blessed to meet Chief Riches as a WTC volunteer, am proud of his work as a spokesman and fighter for 9-11 families' rights and inspired by the miracle of his life after the trial of his respiratory coma. I thank God joyously for this show of mercy and grace. You're a walking miracle, Chief! As you said, Jimmy Jr. probably didn't want you "ruining his fun up there". ;-) My very best to Mrs. Riches. What a strong lady you are, and what an amazing mother--FOUR heroes for sons.
Always your supporter, Synida

Hey Pal, long time, my bad sorry, still think about you every day, your picture's on my desk, in my car and mosst importantly, in my heart and mind. I always get weird this time of year, summer right around the bend and that was always our time to shine, the gross guys loved summer. Had the bar crawl again last week, remember what I said, a promise is a promise. Wish we could go back in time to that night in Long Beach, the night to asked me about doing the bar crawl if anything ever happened to you, wish I couldve told you not to go, but I know you'd have gone to work that day anyway, the type of man you were. Anyway I know you see all that goes on here, just wish you could be here with us too. Miss you kid, more than ever.

I researched American heroes for 3 weeks now for my speech final at Texas A&M. After searching through many names that are "idols" and heroes," I came across Jimmys name, and it seemed to stick and really touch me. Sounds like I would of been very lucky to meet him, and he was a man that America can be proud of.
My heart goes out to the family and friends of this couragous man and his family. My love and hope is to y'all, and I pray that y'all stay strong and supported throughout all the rough times. A true american soldier, who we are grateful to have been blessed with. The story touched my heart, love to y'all!

On 9/11/08, 343 firefighters bunked up and ran 110 flights in Denver, CO. I carried Jimmy’s name with me and ran in his memory. It’s just a small tribute, but it was a way for us to honor our brothers who died seven years ago. We’ll never forget.

I went to Belmont Abbey with Jimmy and was there to send him off when he left to go back home to be a Firefighter. We got together often, back home in Brooklyn before I moved to Florida, and I actually just found out that he had passed on 9/11 a few days ago. He was a leader on his basketball team at the Abbey, and a leader to all of his friends. He was always there to help a friend in need and always had the best stories about his friends and family back home. Although shocked and saddened, it does not suprise me at all that he died fighting to save the lives of people he did not know. That was just the type of person he was. I am proud to have known him and will never forget him! My deepest condolances to all of his family and friends.

Jimmy reading all the good things people have to say about you makes me realize even more how much i miss you. not a day goes by i do not think about you or what happened that day. Before i go to work each day i tell myself..remember why you do what you do..and the answer is to make you proud and be just like you. i wish everyday you were here looking after me or keeping me out of trouble. I know you are. i went to the pit today to remember your bravery. i miss you more than you can ever imagine. i love you. watch over us.

Dear Riches Family,
I knew Jimmy from the Abbey and admired him for just being the great guy we knew him to be - so many of us did. It's been 7 years now since Jimmy was "officially" deemed a hero, but we all knew him to be a hero long before that. Great friends are always heros. Thank you for granting us the privilege of getting to know and befriend your heroic son. My deepest sympathy to you all today as you remember Jimmy. ~Theresa Winters Bayman "Trey" (BAC '94)

This is a day of rememberance. And here in Tyler, Texas at The University of Texas at Tyler, scheduled memorial ceremonies are occuring throughout the day. 2,996 american flags are flying and yellow ribbons with the names of 9/11 victim are being worn in rememberance of the life that was taken. I choose the ribbon with your name, James C Riches. As I view your picture and read from the journal, I find that you are a hero and a friend to many that miss you still. I will say a prayer for your family and keep your name close as a reminder. At 8:00 am this morning, the bell tower began tolling every six seconds for each of the 2,996 victims. The tolling will end at 5:20 pm today. I will not forget you are this day. The yellow ribbon with your name will be a reminder of rememberance of your life as I keep it in sight here on my desk.
