Charles Waters Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 28, 2001.
A Father and Son's Bond

Charlie Waters left a wife, three children and his parents in Bethpage on Long Island. But Mr. Waters, 44, a vice president at Cantor Fitzgerald, got to take the memory of something very precious with him.

It was a letter from his 14-year-old son, also Charlie. Mr. Waters loved his 11-year-old twin daughters, Jaclyn and Allison, very much, but the bond between father and son was special, said Mr. Waters's wife, Barbara. Big Charlie turned little Charlie on to the Grateful Dead. Son turned father on to Metallica. Charlie the son took up the guitar, and when his band, Dormant Virus, played last year, he wore his father's old Grateful Dead T-shirt beneath his Giants jersey.

Last spring, when the family debated where young Charlie should go to high school, the boy gave his father a letter. "Dear Dad," it read. "I feel like you would do anything just to make me happy for a split second, and you do. I just wish I got to spend more time with you. I want to thank you because I know that whatever high school I would have chosen you would have been behind me 100 percent. You're also the easiest person I know to talk to. That's what I think I love about you the most."

Charlie Waters cried when he read that letter.

Charlie... You came into my thoughts this morning, like a powerful bolt out of the blue and my mind goes back to a simpler time when we were just a bunch of kids going to school at St. Mary Gate of Heaven in Ozone Park. Rest easy my Brother... I'm sure we will meet again.. Love and Peace

I don't know what happened today to remember the name Charles Waters, after that very sad day, I knew, only for a brief moment in time, 2 persons from Cantor Fitzgerald. And I thought about them then and on occasion when I think of that day. I remembered only 1st names, Charles and I believe the other was, I want to say Michael but I cannot be 100%. I worked for ADT Security (now Tyco Integrated Security) and we were their security vendor and I met with Charles and Michael (?) a few times on the 101st floor for customer services reasons. I was watching you tube video of that day today and his name, his last name which I couldn't remember just popped into my head. Then I goggled him and came upon this and his face, and yes, it is he who I met so, so many years ago - just doing my job. My prayers are with his family and with his soul forever and ever. I am so sorry for your loss.

At my first job at Brown, Wood I met Charlie and his sidekick Mike Campbell. Two peas in a pod. Charlie was so well liked by everyone. On some Friday nights we would hang out at McSorley's and have such great laughs. I still have pictures of him and Barbara (when they just started dating) in my photo album from a picnic we went to in Queens in 1980. He was so in love with her. My heart breaks and I pray for his family always. Rest in Peace Charlie Waters!

Charles sounds like my kind of guy, I really wish I could have met him. The letter his son wrote says it all and I don't cry easily, but it got me. I can feel what Charles was all about though that letter. I have two sons (18 & 27) so I know what it takes to have his son feel that way about him. I share that same kind of bond with my boys and know what it must have meant to him (sheesh, got me crying again). I am so truly sorry that he was called away from his family by such a cruel act. We share the same family name and I wonder if we are related, I would be proud to be. Today has to be a hard day as I'm sure most days without Charles are, but today expressly so. I will pray that you are given the strength to endure and to be shown that he is always with you. I look forward to meeting Charles when my time on earth is at a close. From this Waters family to yours, you have our deepest sympathy and love. To Charles Waters, you did it right. Rest in peace.

Charlie,
it's been a long 10 years without you! Michelle & Chrissy's last time with you was hanging in your car with your kids listening to the Mets game instead of being inside at the 1st Holy Communion Party! As for me, at one of my lowest times in life, you said something to me that help me see things in perspective. Love your sarcastic humor and your snicker laugh. Your family is beautiful and you are sorely missed!

I worked with Charlie at Brown Wood Ivey Mitchell & Petty when I was a young lawyer. When I left, one of the senior partners was mightily annoyed and conveyed that to staff. Charlie was the only person to show up and say good bye. Not because he wanted a drink but because it was the right thing to do. I never forgot Charlie for that. He was a young man of great principle.

My condolences to your family Charlie. I didn't know you but we have the same name. I worked at the American Express Tower as Journeyman Electrician with Local 3 of the IBEW. I was off from work, cause of a hip replacement on that day that we will never forget. I pray for all of men and women that lost there lives that day, and also for our armed services that are trying to keep us safe today. God bless all of you.

I knew Charlie from Brown & Wood in the '80's. I knew by reading about him through his contacts at Hall Dickler, it was the Charlie that I knew. He had a great sense of humor, was kind and diligent. I am lucky to have known him

That wink -- that sweet, warm smile and wink!! I still see it and smile. I worked with Charlie at Hall, Dickler. He used to stop by my desk every morning to annoy me, and I always welcomed it. Charlie worked very closely with my boss, therefore, Charlie and I shared the good, the bad, and the ugly. But he always made time to swap stories about our Italian families. It was heartwarming to see a man love his family with the intensity and pride he did. He showed his interest and concern in me not just as an employee, but as a person and friend. He was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand in any way he could. God Bless you and your family Charlie. I know you are watching down on them and they will never be without you. And, when I look up in the sky at night and see the stars, I know you are one of them.

I worked with Charlie at HD for two years. He was honest, fair, respectful and treated people decently no matter what your position within the firm. After he left, the place was not the same. With the one year anniversary upon us, my prayers go out to his family and friends. May the Lord keep you and give you peace during this time.

CHARLIE WAS THE GREATEST!!!!

WHEN WE WORKED TOGETHER AT HALL, DICKLER THERE WAS NO PROBLEM THAT WENT UNSOLVED! HE ALWAYS HAD THE SOLUTION. HE WAS ALWAYS THE PERSON

TO TALK TO AND ALWAYS HAD THE RIGHT ANSWERS.AND NO MATTER HOW HARD THE

TASK YOU MIGHT HAD THOUGHT IT WAS, HE MADE IT SOUND SO EASY,LIKE A PIECE OF CAKE. HE LOVED HIS FAMILY

VERY MUCH (NO WORDS COULD EXPRESS THAT)CAUSE YOU SEEN IT IN HIS FACE

WHENEVER HE SPOKE OF THEM. HIS WHOLE

FACE WOULD LIGHT UP!!CHARLIE WILL ALWAYS LIVE IN OUR MEMORIES, NOT FORGOTTEN! GOD BLESS.

To the Waters Family,

I was so saddened to hear about Charlie. I worked with him at Hall Dickler for almost 5 years before I left the company. I remember Charlie playing a trick on me when I was do to have my baby. This was infact an excuse to get me upstairs for the Baby shower. But low and behold his wife and I were both pregnant at the same time. The Hall Dickler newsletter read girls, girls, girls. Upon my return he let me know that he had two daughters. Charlie knew that I had a daughter too. So quite naturally we had stores to share. I will always remember Charlie saying "Hey Roz" when ever we saw each other. God called Charlie home because he was in need of him for other reasons. Charlie Waters will be missed but never forgotten.

I WORKED WITH CHARLIE WHILE AT HALL DICKLER. I FOUND HIM TO BE A FAIR, FRIENDLY AND REACHABLE OFFICE MANAGER. HE WAS A CONSIDERATE PERSON, ALWAYS WILLING TO LISTEN. I COULD SENSE, TOO, THAT HE WAS A SERIOUS FAMILY BY BEING IN THE PRESENCE OF HIM AND HIS FAMILY. EVEN THOUGH I AM NO LONGER IN NEW YORK AND AT HALL DICKLER, MY HEART GOES OUT TO NEW YORK, CHARLIE'S FAMILY AND MY FORMER HALL DICKLER FAMILY. MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

I knew Charlie from Hall,Dickler and two things I remember about him was that he was always smiling and friendly towards everyone, the other thing was, what a family man he was and how much he loved his wife and children. Someone like him is sure to be in a much better place in heaven!

May God Bless him and his family Always.

My last name is Clark--but when Charlie passed me in the hallways at Hall Dickler, the law firm where we worked together, out would come this roar: "CLAHK!!" His enthusiasm was contagious. The roar grew louder as the years went by; a testament to a friendship developed over time. I still hear it.

I worked with Charlie for several years at Hall Dickler. I used to stop by his office and talk mostly about the Rangers, Mets and kids. It didn't matter if you were a Partner or a clerk, he treated everyone with the same respect. He was a class act day in, day out. God Bless.

Charlie Waters (my cousin, who we always called Brother) was an outgoing, fun person. As a kid, I spent many Thanksgivings at his house where my aunt, Margie, would cook for what seemed to be one hundred people. Brother was older than most of the kids, so he would be the one to lead in the torture of us - he was always leading in the fun. I wish I knew him better as an adult because I see how blessed he was with a wonderful wife and family. He was very special, and touched so many people's lives. I am a better person to have known him and his beautiful sister, Anne. May the goodness he showed to everyone in his life continue through the rest of our actions in our lives.

I met Charlie at Brown Wood about 20 years ago. We instantly became friends at work and after work during our frequent trips to McSorley's. I believe he met Barbara during one of our nights out and fell for her immediately. Although we came from different groups of friends, both groups of friends clicked together. Charlie was very proud of his son Charlie Jr. and his daughters Allison and Jacklyn. With the baseball season coming upon us I was reminded how much Charlie loved the Mets. Charlie if you are reading this we miss you and love you. Godspeed my friend. Soupy

CHARLIE WATERS WAS THE BEST FRIEND ANYONE COULD POSSIBLY HAVE. I KNOW BECAUSE HE WAS MINE SINCE WE WERE 14. HE WAS THE ONE PERSON I COULD ALWAYS COUNT ON TO HELP ME WITH ANYTHING I ASKED OF HIM. NOT HAVING HIM HERE HAS LEFT AN IMMENSE VOID IN MY LIFE WHICH WILL NEVER BE REPLACED. HE WAS ADMIRED AND RESPECTED BY EVERYONE HE MET, AND I AM I BETTER PERSON FOR HAVING THE PRIVALAGE OF CALLING HIM MY FRIEND. I LOVE HIM AND I MISS HIM. REST IN PEACE MY DEAR FRIEND.

Charlie was my friend for 30 years. He was a prince of a person whom I loved as if he were my own brother. He had a personality that would light up any room that he was in and a heart of gold. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of him and miss him dearly. I will carry him in my heart always. May God Bless you and your family and always keep Charlie nearby.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
