A Contrarian Humor
Whether it was his English accent, self-confident manner or natural gift of humor, Neil Wright was always able to draw laughter from the crowd at the Mountain View Chalet, a local bar and restaurant in Asbury, N.J.

Carol Vaughn, a friend and neighbor, remembers meeting Mr. Wright for the first time at the Chalet on a night when she was feeling down. Within minutes of talking to him, she was filled with "the kind of laughing that makes your face hurt," she said.

As a young child, Mr. Wright demonstrated a certain contrarian outlook that may have been the key to his humor. Left to his own devices while the adults chattered in the garden, he painted the family's black Labrador white: "White looks much nicer than black," his mother, Mary Wright, recalls him explaining.

Mr. Wright, 30, moved to the United States five years ago after his employer in London, Cantor Fitzgerald, asked him to transfer to its office in the World Trade Center. He loved his new home, although he told friends he missed certain English foods, like Yorkshire pudding. After he and his wife divorced, Mr. Wright won sole custody of his children, Daniel, 5, and Jack, 3, and his mother moved here to help take care of them.

His favorite way to relax was to ride his canary yellow Aprilla motorcycle. "I used to say, 'Please don't ride that thing; think of me and the children if anything happened,' " his mother said.

Neil was my best friend,
He was a best friend to many.
Last night around 8 PM I was thinking... 19 years ago at this time, Neil and I were at the Mountain View Chalet in Asbury NJ enjoying dinner and of course, adult beverages !
I still miss him terribly and I a picture of Neil and his sons Jack and Daniel on my desk.
I look at it many times every day and remember...
I hope there's a bar and folks have a sense of humor in Heaven...
If the didn't, they do now after Neil got there !!
Drink in Peace my friend..

I hop you won't mind me posting this message, as I didn't know Neil, but I visited the World Trade Centre memorial in June 2017. I went to remember my husband , who died 11th September 2004. I looked for the name of Wright on the memorial to place a memorial poppy in his memory. I found Neil's name and placed the poppy in his name. My husband was Keith Stanley Wright, from Burton-on-Trent, UK. I will be happy to send a photo of the poppy on Neil's memorial.

I was a school friend of Neils at St Cedds R.C school for boys. All these years later I remember Neil as being one of the bright, funny and kind lads. I always knew he would succeed in whatever he chose to do in life. I was shocked when I heard the news on 911. I will always remember his fun sense of humour. You were a good guy Neil and I will always remember you fondly. God bless.

From the first day I met Neil, I knew that life would never be quite the same again! I think it was that infectious sense of humour and the slight American twang to that Essex accent that did it! A couple of business trips to New York later and I knew I had found the sort of friend only a few people find in a lifetime. From the last time I left NY onwards, I don’t think there was a week that went passed without receiving, updated anecdotes of his wonderful kids, “home improvements” or photos of the latest motorbike! (And how many times did I warn him about how dangerous those things were!) There’s still not a day that goes by, when the calls start to come in from the States that do I not think about what you and your boys might have been up to. The world is a lesser place without you, but thankfully some of us were able to share some great memories and a unique friendship with a wonderful person! Rest in peace, my friend, you will never be forgotten.

When i heard about the loss of an old school friend it brought all the emotions of that day back with an intensity i cannot described. You were a friend of my brothers and i knew you all but for a few years at secondary school. i remember your infectious sense of humour and that insane laugh, as a teenager you showed me no malice.i was just the Troublesome little brother of a friend. The world is a lesser place without you, and those who perished on that day. Rest in piece my friend, fly with the angels.

I only was an aquaintenace of Neils, but for the few times I had the chance to be in his company I thought he had a great sense of humor. I meet him through Bugsy and Karen Bishop. Neil loved Bugsy and to hear him say that name with his English Accent was memorable. I will always pray for his 2 little boys. Rest In Peace Neil.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
