Good morning. My name is Cara hasty and i am a daughter of a battalion Cheif in Charlotte NC. I have participated in the stair climb for three years and I climbed for firefighter Richard T. Reading these messages is lovely. Funny, ever since I kayaked to his memorial August 2012, I've thought of him as "my guy". They've started building the 9/11 memorial on the beach at Point Lookout. He'll never be forgotten. I just turned 80 & haven't kayaked out there this year. I will before going back to NYC. I live near the WTC & will 'visit' him there. Greetings to all of you. Hi Richie:
This is my first time on here, this is so beautiful and thoughtful. I just wanted to tell you that i miss you everyday and the pain doesn't get any easier as the days go on. I remember all the years growing up in the firehouse with you and the whole family. You were like a second dad to me and always will be. There are so many good memories with you and even up to the last time i saw you. I remember it like it was yesterday...John (my husband) and i were at the firehouse with you at the bar because he had wanted to join Engine and you were training him. It was so funny to see you two as you were having him clean the bar and the truck. You had given us and him great advice and many laughs that day. Then 9/11 happened. When we got the call at my dads i didn't want to believe it, i sat in my room alone praying we would get the call you were ok, because you always came out ok from all the fires but then days went on and still nothing. The day my dad told me it was for real and you weren't coming back was so hard for two reasons, one to see the hurt in my dads eyes for loosing a brother and two for knowing i will never see or hear your laugh again. I just want to tell you thank you for letting me know you and you are truly and always will be my hero for what you did that day. I send my love to you and all the men and women that were lost that day and a big thank you. I go every year to the memorial that was set up by bayview firehouse so i can say hi to you and to pay my respects to your family.

To the Whole Muldowney family:

I thank you for counting me as family and you will always be part of mine in such a special way. I send my prayers and love you you all.

Miss you Richie, everyday! :(

I discovered Richard while kayaking from Point Lookout past his memorial. Back then I added the picture currently in the photo gallery. After Sandy I noticed that the charming cutout of the NY Skyline was gone, but the flag is there with the plaque about Richard. I visited his place at the WTC Memorial and took this photo. I listen for him each year in the reading of the names. His courage will never be forgotten.

I climbed The Tower of America today twice in your honor. I carried your name and picture with me. I signed your name on the flag. I thought of you a man I have never me as I climbed. When I came home I researched you. You touched so many lives. You still mean so much to so many people. Today was the hardest day for me. Because of you. I hope I honored you properly. I will never forget you.

Cannot believe that tomorrow will be 12 years. We will NEVER forget, FOREVER in our HEARTS.

July 4, 2013

As a kayaker and boater I too noticed the memorial one day a few years ago. Last year I went out on the 4th to put a flag back up. Someone beat me to it last year. I fastened it all a bit better and put a new flag up today. I boat and I am in the kayak all year long. I will try to maintain a flag all year at his memorial.

My heart does not have the words to express the lasting impression Richie made on my life. Looking at his picture brings emotions in my heart that make me realize what an honor it was to have known Richie. This September 11th he will be honored in Marshall MN with a Memorial Beam from the World trade Center that one of the firefighters there has obtained for the purpose of never forgetting our brave men and women who gave up there lives for us. I love you Richie thanks for still looking out for me. Liz

O, I ride as a guardian of the night, toward the far away glow
Of my destiny, dauntless, duty bound,
Endeavoring to a life fully-lived within the grasp of mortality.

And when my watch is over; when my tour is ended
And I am finally called Home
To the embrace of my Gentle Guardian, I will ride again.

Racing through the heavens, oh so swiftly
For I will ride there in glory,
With angels’ escort, aboard a screaming red chariot of honor.

God Bless you, old friend!

Richie,
I have never had the great honor of meeting you, but heard so much about you from your very good friend Peter McBrearty. I pray you welcomed him up in heaven when he died September 7,2007. Pete and I were engaged to be married. He was also a great Fireman and your good friend. The first time I went fishing with Pete he took me to the spot where your bayhouse use to be. I put my line in the water and one after the next, I caught three fish in five mintues. The first time in my life! I looked at Pete and said, "I guess your buddy Richie just bought you & your new girl dinner!". Pete always saluted as we drove by the cross that was placed for you at the bayhouse. Pete was a great FDNY Fireman and shed many tears for you. I am lost without him, but it comforts me to know you are with him in heaven. God Bless you and your family.I can't imagine the lost could ever get easier. It is so very painful.

Dear Richie,

I met your sister, Colleen, while I was vacationing in Florida. Both of us being from NY and both from Irish families, we immediately clicked. She couldn't stop talking about you, and you could tell she will never get over the loss of her big brother. I am looking at your photo right now and Colleen looks like you, especially around the eyes. After talking (and drinking) with Colleen, I feel I know you in a way. Thank you for your supreme sacrafice on 9/11, you are truly a HERO! I wish I could have known you, I'm sure you were the best!

Sincerely,

Rich...

It's been 3 years since that terrible day, and yet still the pain lingers. I wish that I could be as eloquent as some of the wonderful people that have contibuted to this memorial. I remember your Dad taking me under his wing when I first joined the PD, just as I remember you and Kev pulling me out of a tight spot in Needle Park, but that just goes to show the type person you truly were.

I couldn't adequately express my gratitude then, just as it is difficult to express it now.

Thanks Buddy....I love You

Dear Connie & Children, Muldowney Family & Watson Family.

We have always felt as part of these wonderful Families. We didn't know Kenny Watson very well but knowing his parents was all one had to understand of Love and admiration. This was our pleasure.

Richie's Dad, Richard Sr. "The Rev", was like a brother to me as we spent the better part of 20 years as police partners, softball team-mates, etc. Richie called me Uncle which made me feel very proud. They both are now with our Lord and playing some golf and watching over all of us. God Bless them and their respectful families.

Our sincere prayers & Love to all.

A lovely man and my thoughts go to his family on this his second anniversary.

Dear Muldowney Family,

I attend St. Agnes Academy and I am a sophomore there. This morning we had a prayer service for September 11th, for all the heroes and people that passed on that day. At our assembly everyone recieved a wrist band with the name of one of these people. I recieved the one with the name Richard Muldowney. We were then able to find information on the person that we recieved. So i just wanted to thank Mr. Muldowney for everything that he did and gave up to save the lives of others. He was a very brave and courageous man to have done that and is a true hero. Today i said a prayer for him and your family. I will keep praying for him and your family and for your comfort as the days pass on. Thank You once again, it is people like him that truly unite us as one...

Richard, we are very greatful for the dedication of being a firefighter. It is when we do things for others that our heart reflects it's innermost love. We thank Richard for sharing such a heart with others each time he was called out. Our hearts cry with you for your loss of Richard.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
