Richard Palazzolo Obituary
Just eight minutes after he was born, Richard Palazzolo met his lifelong companion: his twin brother, Ronald. The two were identical in every way: looks, mind-set, careers, everything. They shared an apartment in Manhattan, owned a home together upstate, and both worked in the World Trade Center.
Richard Palazzolo, 39 and known as Rico, was a mortgage security broker at Cantor Fitzgerald, and Ronald Palazzolo was a government security broker at Garban Intercapital. "I wouldn't think about doing something without including my brother in it," said Ronald Palazzolo. "I would have to be with him."
Were there any differences? Mr. Palazzolo thinks for a long time. Finally, it occurs to him: although they both loved the Beatles, "my brother always liked George Harrison. I liked Paul McCartney."

Ronnie, I will always think of you & Rico with joy, remembering times playing pool downtown and running around 71 Broadway and hanging out at John St Bar & Grill. Laughing, telling jokes, being happy. The space he left behind is painful, but the memories are bright & forever, and my heart sends love to you & your family, now & always.

What a shock I received yesterday, when I heard the name Richard Palazzolo mentioned among the victims of the 9/11 attack(s). I thought, 'I went to school with a Richard Palazzolo years ago. He had a twin brother named Ronald'. So, I put Richard's name in my search engine, and what I feared turned out to be true. I met the Palazzolo twins when I transferred to Holy Cross High School for the 77-78 school year. I remember how hard working yet comical the brothers were. They would do this thing where they would stand on opposite sides of me and tell jokes and/finish each other's sentences. I thought of it as stereophonic silliness, but it was hilarious. Also, I absolutely could not tell the brothers apart, even though I had classes with one or the other at various times. These fellows were truly identical. Anyway, I just wanted to offer long overdue condolences to the family. Ron, you might not remember me, but I certainly remember you and Richard. It can't be easy, but keep hanging in there. All the best to you and yours.

You don't know me, but we share 2 special things. My name is Donna Palazzolo and I am a fraternal twin to my sister Dana and we grew up in CT. On 9/11/02 I watched every name recited of the victims of 9/11/01 and gasped when I heard Rico's name. I immediately did a search on line and gasped again when I learned he was an identical twin. What are the odds of our last name, Palazzolo (not related) would each have twins born 40 years ago. Dana an I are a few years older but very uncommon for the 50's & 60's. I could not believe that 1, 5, 7 then 10 now 13 years later this page is still going. I pray for Rico often and especially his Mom, sister and of course his twin Ronnie. Only a twin can know what it's like to be a twin, but to lose one, I cannot even imagine. I love to see the messages here. There is so much love and I don't mean to disturb that. Just wanted to let you know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Richie, yesterday I had the honor of seeing the 9/11 Memorial with a group of survivors. I was able to touch your name & feel your presence & just had to call your mom so she could be there with you too. I can't even put into words the feeling of peace I felt there & know that it is from all the souls that died that day. You have your resting place now & it's somewhere I can come to visit you. I will forever be grateful to you for bringing me to your family who I love like my own, although I will always wish it was under any other circumstance but this one. We met just once, June of 2001, and though it was just that one night, I'm glad I had the pleasure of meeting Ronnie's other half. My husband, Anel, and I know your brother and knew of the incredible bond you both held. It was great getting to know you. (Anel was a HUGE Honeymooners & Abbott and Costello fan and you guys hit it off well that night).
As the 10th year anniversary is approaching, I feel compelled to write to you. 9/11 changed many lives that day. Your name, for one, has become very common in our household. My 3 sons, ages 16, 12 & 10 know who you are though they never met you. Every anniversary we watch the memorial on tv and we wait until your name is called. We flew to Florida 2 weeks ago and behind a glass wall was an american flag with all the names of those who died on 9/11. Though we had minutes before we boarded, we stopped. My sons asked for the correct spelling of your name so they can look it up. We did. They know what 9/11 means to our family and to all americans. You are in our hearts. I remember how I held my then 2 year old tightly and cried hard when I found out "Ronnie's brother didnt make it". I had only cried this way once before. When my father passed away. I was hurting for your brother.
I'm sorry that you are gone but I pray that you are in a better place and that your soul is resting in peace. May you continue to watch over and send strength to your amazingly strong mom, sister and wonderful brother. Though it's been a long time since we saw them last your family will always be in our hearts.
