David LeMagne Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 4, 2001.
Motivator of People
He pushed. Whatever you thought you were capable of, he thought higher. David Lemagne loved to help people, and especially to push them to become all that they could. "He pushed people to get the grades, to get moving, to get motivated," said his sister, Magaly Lemagne Alfano. "He pushed a lot of friends, and they went further in life because of him."

Officer Lemagne, 27, lived in North Bergen, N.J., and was a police officer for the Port Authority, as well as a part-time paramedic in New Jersey. He had begun riding around in ambulances when he was only 11, learning to care for others. He was assigned to PATH in Jersey City, and when the attack occurred he was told to stay put. But he asked to be sent to the trade center, because of his training as a paramedic.

Officer Lemagne was a notorious prankster, and loved to kid around. "He would tell my husband, in front of me, 'If you ever have a problem with her, I'll help you get rid of her,' " Mrs. Alfano said. "He would say, 'Don't worry, no one will ever have to know.' "

For all his paramedic training, he was not always entirely comfortable with blood. When he was young, he and his close friend decided they would become blood brothers. Fine. Officer Lemagne was handed a knife. "I'm not cutting myself," he exclaimed in horror. They became spit brothers.

Dave,

This morning I dusted off the old steel toe duty boots and donned my old uniform. I saluted the flag in front of my house as I thought of you.

Every year on this day I wear my uniform and I remind others to remember your sacrifice.

The things you did in your life echo through out eternity. I am saddened yet thankful for your sacrifice. You are a true hero.

Today I remember all the fun times we had at Wildwood, Foxes, Topps, UCVAC, JCMC, UMDNJ, College, Medic School and every other good experience we shared.

You live in my heart. I love you bro.

Safe home.

Hi David,

We have never met but my family and I were in NJ and NY last week and met your dad. He was our driver for the whole trip up there and he showed us NY and NJ area around. I have to tell you that he was one of the nicest men I have ever met in my life. For the entire trip, He went the extra mile and made sure that there is nothing left for us to see in NY. The last day of our trip in NY, your dad took us to ground zero. When he shared the story of you and your family with us, I could not stop crying. We all appreciate for what you have done for this country and we will never forget. We always remember you as a hero of this country. R.I.P. David P. LeMagne and we hope the best for you family.

Warm regards from Okinawa, Japan

Today I honored David by carrying his photo during the 9-11 110 story memorial stair climb event at the Duke Power Center in Charlotte, NC. I am a Police officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. I did not know David, but since honoring him today I have read what others have shared. I know his spirit was with me today, helping to push me to the top. All gave some but some gave all may we never forget their selfless sacrifice.

Dave, It's hard to believe it's been 10 years. harder to believe it's been 17 (!) since we graduated medic school. I can't remember a time when you didn't have a smile on your face, no matter how hard things were. This world is a better place having had you in it, and I'm grateful for having had the chance to know you. Though separated by more than just miles and years from those days at UMDNJ, I'll never forget you. God bless you and your family. Rest in Peace, brother.

Dave-

It s hard to believe that when I met you, you were just a kid on the ambulance in Union City. Come to think of it, we both were. Those days of EMS will always be a part of me; I was blessed to work with someone as talented and devoted as you. The nights of rolling 305 through the streets of upper Hudson County are some of my best memories, and you and Maggie are part of them. I always knew you'd be the great success that you are. You are greatly missed.

My prayers are with you and your family.

I only met David a couple of times but was friends with Maggie at Holy Rosary. I always remember her talking about the pranks that David liked to play...and I even witnessed a few. But most of all I remember how fondly Maggie always spoke about her little brother. I'm sure the whole family is proud of the fine man he seems to have turned out to be. We all owe David for having made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.

May God bless your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

David...

To this very day I sit here and can't believe that you are gone. I guess its denial. There is not a day that goes by that we don't think about you.

I want to apologize to you because you and your cousin "Pilon" could have done so many more things together if I wasn't in the picture. I am sorry that I took that time away from you guys.

About a week before this tragedy happened you called us to ask us to go to dinner with you and Virginia, Frank & Mirian. We couldn't make it. I only wished that we could have gone to be with you one last time. That will stay with me forever.

I guess you never think that anything bad is going to happen and that there is always a next time...

I still picture you and Ray standing there smiling, joking and smoking those fine cigars with Ray. You guys really enjoyed that...

I will never forget your wonderful smile and great sense of humor. Thank you for being a part of our lives.

We miss you very much! You will remain in our hearts forever.

I new Dave from working EMS. He was a medic and I was an EMT.I became a cop a few years before he did.I was working on this side of the River when it happened. It killed me that we didn't do more that day, but we helped alot here. I had quite a few PAPD cops i knew on my mind. I actually had forgotten Dave became a cop. A few days after 9/11 my department had the names of the missing and I saw his. It hit me hard. Dave was a great guy from what I knew of him. He loved to help others...and he died helping others. I miss seeing him around. Dave was a guy who loved to pull pranks....I can still hear his laugh.

Finally! A couple of weeks after 9/11, I purchased a remembrance bracelet which has David's name on it. Since that time, I have been trying to find a picture to put with the name. I just want to extend my deepest sympathy to his family and that even though I did not have the privilege of knowing him, I now have a small glimpse into his life. I look at the bracelet everyday and now I can put David's picture with it. It is constant reminder to me about how fragile life is and that we need to appreciate the time we are given because we never know when it will be taken away. He hadn't even begun to reach is full potential.

There was another life when we were in Union City. A couple of kids riding an ambulance, helping those we didn't know, but who needed it the most. much has changed since then, taking us in two different directions and different parts of the world.

We thank David for devoting his life to protecting others as a police officer. Such devotion comes with a brave and caring heart. We thank him for sharing his heart with others. May his courage, life and love live on in those who love him. We are very sorry for your loss of David. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
