Many years ago, I worked for Mr. Mecham setting up mailing lists for his newspaper. He would check in often to make sure I was okay working alone at night and ask if he could bring me something to eat. He was a very kind and nice man. He had the respect of many persons whose lives he touched. May He Rest In Peace.

Dear Mecham Family, I send my condolences to the family. I was honored to have known Evan when he lived in the Glendale 3rd ward. I found out then what a wonderful and truly a "man of God" he was. I was priveledged to know his daughter, Chris and family and babysat for her children. Later as a single adult living in Mesa I was honored to get to know Kyle and his family. To which I am greatful to have rubbed shoulders with them. I am greatful for the Gospel which gives us the truths we need to help sustain us in this life. I know Even is still hard at work doing the Lord's work. My love goes out to Sister Mecham and the entire Mecham Family. (Mary Eliza Sharp (Johnson) Chapman. Love Always, Mary Eliza Chapman

Strongly believe he never got his chance to be a Governor, just to much politics and not enough action. May his Soul find a place among the Elders and the Wise. To go down for what you believe in, even when unpopular, takes sheer grit and guts. Last of the REAL MEN!

Governor Mecham's signature on my Bachelor of Education degree conferred in 1987 will have even more significance now that he has transitioned to a heavenly home. I thank him for the example he set for Arizona as a governor, and his generation (like my late father) centered around grassroots efforts to raise and nurture family, and keeping high levels of integrity for the common good of all people from many walks. Evan Mecham spoke his mind in truth, not deception. His was the "salt of the earth" or "true grit" that meant people should hold high moral standards in order to succeed in life. I am sorry that his later years were cut short due to his Alzheimer's condition. At the time of his political demise, I also felt the public treatment of that process was disrespectful to Governor Mecham. He withstood with dignity the unfair treatment of that era. The courage shown by his countenance is what I will remember most, and try to model for my own life.

My mother and I send our condolences to the family of Gov. Mecham, knowing that he can now be at peace to lead from his Heavenly home.

After being transfered to Williams AFB, we met Ev while he was working on Ray Russell's campaign. He was such a hard worker, and you could tell that he had a strong love for America and the political process. He was a true patriot and didn't seek glory. We our sorry that he didn't have a chance to demonstrate his qualities and abilities as the governor of our state. He will be missed, but his legacy and example will live on. We were just married and after talking to us for a few minutes he suggested a new model that was coming out the next year that would be perfect for our new family. It doesn't matter if I agree with all that Evan Mecham believed in or whether I agree with his personal, religious, political beliefs.

What matters is that he is gone from this earth and from his family that deeply loves him and will miss him forever.

To Ev's family -

My late father, Lorin Donald "Donnie" Porter was one of Ev's greatest supporters, as was the rest of the Porter family.

As a young lawyer practicing in Snowflake many years ago, I was pivileged to work on his campaign in Navajo and Apache Counties.

The good memories of Gov. Mecham and his selfless service to State and Country, and to his church, give us reason to celebrate his life and rejoice in the knowledge of God's eternal plan.
