Pierre-Mauroy-Obituary

Pierre Mauroy

Obituary

PARIS (AP) - Pierre Mauroy, who as France's prime minister in the early 1980s implemented radical social reforms that made life easier for French workers, has died at 84.

Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said Mauroy died Friday in a hospital in a Paris suburb. He had been suffering from cancer.

Mauroy served as prime minister from 1981 to 1984 under Socialist President Francois Mitterrand. His reforms included cutting the legal work week, lowering the retirement age and raising the number of paid holidays.

His reforms helped reduce poverty but also led to higher inflation and a widening budget deficit, forcing a government U-turn. He resigned in 1984.

President Francois Hollande said Mauroy "was a Socialist and he wanted social justice to inspire all his acts."

To bad he had to work under Mitterand, but he was well thought of by my French-born friends. Kindness never goes out of style.

Please accept my condolences. May you find comfort in Jesus' words at John 6:40.

I would like to express my sincere sympathy for the passing of your love one. May you find peace and comfort from the God who comfort those who mourn. Isa 66:13.

May Pierre rest and may he be alive again, for he is only asleep. May he wake up in paradise. Also be anew and young and healthy and in all perfection.

Offering my deepest condolences during this difficult time, I'm so very sorry for your loss, death is something we are never prepared for, but please find comfort in knowing sickness, pain and death will one day be no more.
