Larry Miller Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 10, 2014.
Larry Miller, 58, died of injuries sustained in a March 2014 mudslide in Oso, Wash.

Larry and Sandy Miller were slowly moving into a grand home they had been building near a bend in the Stillaguamish River. They had added a guest house along the water for friends and family. The couple ran their own roofing company, Seattle Roof Advisor, where Larry Miller, 58, was a broker and Sandy, 64, did the bookkeeping. Active members of Northshore Christian Church, they counseled engaged couples and married couples struggling to hold it together.

Larry Miller has been confirmed dead. Sandy Miller is still missing.

On the morning of the mudslide, Ron DeQuillettes, an electrical contractor who also did blacktop installation work, was to come to the house to give an estimate for a new driveway. Greg Gorsuch, a friend of all three, introduced them to one another at the Seattle Home Show in February.

He wrote in an email: "I imagine the three of them, Ron, Larry and Sandy all standing out in the front of the house facing the river and the beautiful mountains on the other side while reviewing the possibilities."

I'm just learning of Larry's passing. This is a shock to me. I was a client and not a close friend, but I referred many to Larry over the years. He provided a much needed service when I needed it. I wonder if anyone is continuing his good work both in roofing and with their church.

I have been struggling for weeks now trying to wrap my mind around the fact of losing two such special friends. Larry and Sandy came into Darrell and my lives shortly after they were married in early 2000 by joining our Marriage RX class. They soon became very dear, wonderful close friends. We spent many hours together studying God's word and discussing what it meant for our lives here and for eternity. When we retired in 2004 they took over helping with the marriage ministry and continued to share their lives with countless others. Many were blessed in so many ways with their steadfast love for each other and for others throughout Northshore Church and in the community around. I personally will be forever grateful for you both always remembering me after Darrell's passing and the many hours we spent going to dinners and you both just being a servant of God. I love you my sweet friends and will miss you forever. Your new house was so beautiful but am sure you are so happy in the wonderful mansion God has for you with Him. "Well done good and faithful servant". Matthew 25:21

My deepest condolences go out to Larry's friends and family. I was blessed to be able to work with him at Elek. He was such a hard worker. He always did go above and beyond when it came to his work. Such a sweet guy. He will be missed very much!!

I came to be friends with Larry and Sandy through the design and building of their dream home. I saw Larry the day before the slide, and saw them both at every Seattle Home Show. They always had a smile and a kind word. I will miss them both, as will everyone at International Homes of Cedar.

Larry, you will be SO missed by so many people. We are blessed to have had you touch our lives. Don and I will always appreciate the marriage advice you and Sandy gave us. It helped to make our marriage stronger. You were very humble when talking about your marriage relationship and shared honestly and with much humor some of the stories of times that did not go exact as planned. You two were a shining example of what a Godly marriage looks like. I know you were building your dream home here on earth, but now you're in your forever home with the Lord. He surely is saying "Well done good and faithful servant!" And no doubt you and Sandy have those big smiles on your faces like we always saw when we ran into you at church. We will always have the memories of your good nature and you and Don ribbing each other about the Dawgs vs Cougs. We love you and will see you again one day!
