Eugene Hightower
Olathe, KS - Eugene Harrison "Genie" Hightower, 85, passed this life on Wednesday, December 23rd, 2020 in Carmel Hills Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Independence, Missouri, after a short illness.
Mr. Hightower was born July 12,1935 in Bucyrus, living in Mansfield for over 70 years. In November of 2013 Gene moved to Olathe, Kansas to live with his daughter, Joy. He served in the U.S Army Rank: PVT E-1. He was a parachutist and expert rifle M14 and was Honorably discharged October, 1963. Gene was a member of the American Legion Post 676 in Mansfield. Gene was employed with General Motors/CPC Plant, retiring March, 1993 after 34 1/2 years of service.
Gene played in a Jazz Band, W.G. Experience with Wilbur Gilmore, where they played at different clubs around the city and state. He was an avid bowler, bowling in different leagues at Park Lanes and traveled to participate in many out of state tournaments. One of Joy's fondest memories is when her and her dad teamed up together as the father and daughter duo to win a couple of tournaments together. Genie was a true softball and baseball fan. He played in different leagues, General Motors UAW 549 and Lee's Rug Cleaning. As well as played in many Soul Brother softball tournaments at Cyclopes field.
Genie is survived by his daughter, Joy Hightower, Olathe and son Wilbur "Woody"Hightower, Long Beach, California. 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. 4 siblings, Clarence "Chuckie" (Missy) Hightower Jr. Nevada, David Hightower, Vickie Howard, Marion and Harold Hightower, Mansfield; and sister-in-law E. Pat Hightower, Cincinnati.
Genie was preceded in death by his mother and step-father Mable(Tucker) and Jefferson "Pete" Malone, father Clarence Hightower Sr, son Eugene "Little Genie" Lamont Hightower,(November of 2020) and brother Wilbur "Woody"Hightower (October of 2020).
Genie will receive his Military honors January 25th at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS.
