William Busby Obituary

William F Busby 89, of DeKalb but previously from North Aurora, IL and Huntington Beach, Ca passed away peacefully on Saturday March 27, 2021 after a short illness at Northwestern Hospital, DeKalb surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born February 24, 1932 in DeKalb, IL. Bill was born in DeKalb IL, to his parents Frank and Elizabeth "Beth" (Kerwin) Busby. He loved his Midwest roots and always talked fondly of his summer's working at "The Hart Farm" in Malta, IL. Bill had fond memories of showing his live stock at the Sandwich Fair, and every year, you could find Bill at that fair looking over the livestock. Bill graduated from Maple Park High School, where he loved playing basketball. Bill honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After receiving a Dear John letter, he became a pen pal, to the Love of his Life Margaret (Marge) Mitchell from Rantoul, IL. Upon his return from Korea, after a short courtship, they married on September 15, 1956. They settled in North Aurora and raised their family there. Out of that beautiful 49-year union, they had three children Pam, Jeff and Scott, who went through the West Aurora School system. The family were founding members of Blessed Sacrament Church in North Aurora and Bill served on the Planning Commission. Bill and Marge could be found at every event their children were involved in from Beauty Pageants, to bundling up against the cold at baseball games, track and cross country meets. Bill worked for many years in Aurora at Processed Plastics as a foreman, Franklin Insurance, and NAPCO in Aurora, but when the economy had a downturn, he and Marge followed their daughter to Southern California and made their home in Huntington Beach, CA. He worked as a Furniture salesman at FEDCO, and then a driver for Connell Chevy before retiring. Bill and Marge enjoyed travelling including a drive across the country, Autumn Foliage Tours and Cruises. But nothing made them happier than being with their family and their friends. Once you knew Bill and Marge, you were family. In his later years he watched his grandsons play baseball, his granddaughter play basketball and enjoyed his time at Fort Willow Creek in Paw Paw, IL with his closest buddy Jerry and Linda Busby. Bill was Past Commander of the American Legion Post 312 in Maple Park and a North Aurora Lion. Bill moved back to the Midwest in September of 2020, and planned on spending his remaining days in DeKalb where he felt immediately at home. Bill is survived by his loving children, Jeff & Connie Busby, Scott & Andrea Busby, His 7 Grandchildren, Alyssa Shapiro, Brandon Busby, Matthew Busby, Steven Busby, Christopher & Shannon Carbajal, Joseph & Jennifer Carbajal and Matthew & Britnie Carbajal. He was so proud of his great grandchildren Brooklyn, Kayla, Contessa and Joe Jr (JJ) Carbajal. In addition, he was looking forward to the upcoming wedding of his grandson and birth of his 2nd great grandson. He leaves behind many Nieces and Nephews as well as Jerry & Linda Busby, his cousin who was more like a brother. Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marge in 2005, his most beloved daughter Pam in 2020, his parents, Frank in 1961 and Beth in 1994, his sister and brother-in-law Bonnie (1986) and Russ (2000) Meyer. As per his wishes, he will be cremated, and at a future date the family will have a celebration of his life, and burial of his ashes at St Mary's Cemetery in Maple Park, IL alongside his beloved Marge. The family requests donations be made in his honor to The American Legion or your local Chapter of The Lions Club. Arrangements are entrusted to Moss Family Funeral Home 630-879-7900, www.mossfuneral.com

Our prayers go out to the Busby Family in this very difficult time. Our families often got together in Maple Park or Aurora. The latest was in California. Our parents were such dear friends. So sorry to hear about Pam. Prayers to all.
