Harry Colwell died March 19, 2021 in Mount Vernon. Harry is survived, and loved by his high school sweetheart and wife of 64 years, Hildur and their children Sally Sheary, Bryan Colwell, Nancy Anderson and their spouses; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and another great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by his siblings Patricia, Cheryl and Chuck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Harry was born in Bisbee, Arizona to Frances and Ervin Colwell. He grew up in Clearview and graduated from Snohomish High School. After high school, Harry served in the Army and was a proud veteran of the Korean War. He was the founder and owner of Cascade Carpet Installers and the business continues today under his son and grandson.
In retirement, whether in an RV or on their boat, Hildur and Harry enjoyed years of traveling and many adventures together. They left no stone unturned. Forever seeking the sun, they spent their winters in Sky Valley, CA and summers at "The Island."
In 1963, Harry and Hildur found the property on Decatur Island in the San Juans. Together with close family members, they created paradise. This was Harry's favorite place on earth, where he enjoyed spending time in the sun with family and friends. After wintering in the desert, Harry looked forward to the smell of the salt air and the taste of fresh crab on the beach. He loved crabbing for the wily Dungeness. Over the years, Decatur Island has become an increasingly special place that connects generations of family. "The Island" is Harry's legacy.
A celebration in Harry's honor will be held at a later date.
