Max Longstreet
Max Longstreet was a beloved and caring son, brother, partner, and friend. He passed away between Monday Night, April 26 and Tuesday Morning, April 27, 2021. Max was a student at St. Augustine High School / St. Johns County Center For The Arts where he was Captain of the Varsity Wrestling Team as well as a member of the Acting, Chorus, and Band programs. He was a talented graduate of New York University Tisch School of the Arts in the Experimental Theatre Wing who loved true theater about real people. He was a Carpenter at The Public Theater since 2014 where he was the lead on shows like Wild Goose Dreams at The Public's downtown venue and Public Works' HERCULES at the Delacorte Theater for Shakespeare in the Park. When he was in a room with anyone - from his friends in St. Augustine, FL where he was raised, to his artistic colleagues from ETW, to his coworkers at The Public Theater, Urban Energy, and theaters all over NYC - Max captured everyone's attention.
Max believed that nobody should ever be in pain and would daily go out of his way to spend time with and listen to family and friends. He marched his first protest in New York City when he moved there in 2011 and during the summer and fall of 2020 he marched with many Black Lives Matter protests across NYC. He also believed in the power of laughter and tried to laugh and make others laugh every day. Max is remembered by his parents, Hester and Michael Longstreet, his brothers Joshua, Zach, Erick, and Derek, his partner Callie Harris, and his sister-in-law Tacy L. Flaherty.
A memorial will be held on Saturday May 8th from 11:30am - 1:00pm at Lakeside Park (by St. Augustine Beach City Hall). The family asks that instead of flowers, donations be made to Brooklyn Community Jail Fund, Communities United for Police Reform, See Lighting Foundation, and/or National Suicide Prevention Lifeline '1-800-273-TALK (8255)'.

Our deepest sympathies to the Longstreet family. We were dismayed to learn the news of Max’s passing. He was a true friend to many and left his mark on the hearts of those in his hometown. Our memories of Max include the pink house near the beach, with pets and big brothers and where friends were welcomed. We remember how he gave back to his St. Augustine Beach community by assisting with City Hall activities, Arbor Day, and beach improvements. We admired how the family supported Max in scouting and how they actively fostered a link with his heritage. The tribal knife that Max gave our son Noah is a treasured family heirloom. We were so happy and proud of Max, that he found his love of acting at St. Augustine High School. Everyone remembers his powerful performance in Miss Saigon. He took his talent and passion with him to college and beyond. It shows what an amazing person he was, to have left his mark on a huge city like New York. What a beautiful life he lived. Our hearts go out to all his friends and family. Sincerely, the Hackneys (Mike, Tara, Noah and Rachel).
