CARRIGAN Joseph P. on September 10, 2021. Resident of Wantagh, NY; native of East Rockaway, NY. Devoted father of Amanda, Emily and Taylor. Cherished brother of Joanne and James (Paola) Carrigan. Dear uncle of Gabriella Carrigan. Loving nephew of Sam and Joan Gipson and cousin to Linda Reeves and William Gipson (Barbara). Predeceased by parents Joseph F. and Herma Carrigan. Sergeant of the Port Authority of New York-New Jersey Police Department (ret); proud U.S. Air Force Veteran; former Captain and member of the Inwood Fire Department. Sergeant Carrigan succumbed from 9/11 related illnesses from the 18-months of search, rescue and recovery operations he performed at the World Trade Center, NYC. He responded heroically on September 11, 2001, along with other members of the PAPD, FDNY and NYPD to the World Trade Center, where he survived both collapses of the towers and rescued hundreds of civilians and other members of service. He was reassigned to the WTC site on 9/11/01 and throughout the recovery operation. Sergeant Carrigan was assigned to the JFK Airport Emergency Services Unit and later to the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) Academy at JFK. Reposing Thursday, Sept. 16 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Donza Funeral Home, 333 Atlantic Ave., East Rockaway, LI. Funeral Mass, Friday, Sept. 17, 9:45 a.m. at St. Raymond RC Church, 263 Atlantic Ave., E. Rockaway. Interment to follow at the Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale. Donations in Joseph's memory are appreciated to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation (https://t2t.org/).
