Mr. Philip "Phil" Henry Niekro, age 81, of Flowery Branch passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020 at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Private Funeral Services will be held. A public Celebration of Life will be held at later date.
Mr. Niekro was born April 1, 1939 to the late Philip Joseph and Henrietta "Ivy" Niekro in Blaine, Ohio. He was an active member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and served in the Army Reserves. A major league baseball player for the Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians and Toronto Blue Jays, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997.
Mr. Niekro is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Farrand Niekro; children, Philip Niekro (Joshua), John Niekro (Jennifer) and Michael Niekro (Christy); grandchildren, Chase Niekro and Emma Niekro; and sister, Phyllis Dillmore (Ed). He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joe Niekro.
