Monterville Hardin Obituary

GERMANTON - Monterville Millard "Mont" Hardin passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006. He was 92 years old. Mr. Hardin was born on June 4, 1914, to Lou Eva Goodman and Millard Hardin, who preceded him in death. Mont was raised in Ashe County. His brothers, Winfield Hardin, Jack Hardin, Fred Hardin, and sisters, Flora Newlin, Vada Hartsoe, Virginia Myers and Ruth Goodman, have also passed on. He was a loving and helpful son to his parents and siblings. Mont was helping on the farm at an early age and always providing for those in need. He was a Greyhound bus driver from 1935 to 1975. He enjoyed his retirement working on his own farm raising strawberries, cows and spending time outdoors in his garden. He was also an accomplished picture framer and woodworker. Mr. Hardin was happiest when surrounded by his family. He was a member of Lewisville Baptist Church and then Germanton Baptist Church. He and his wife of 64 years, Jean Hardin, raised four daughters, Judy Jennings (Aubrey), Martha Sloan (Steve), Carol Boles (Larry) and Monty O'Brien (David). He is also survived by a brother, Ritz Hardin, and two sisters, Lois Jones (Howard) and Wanda Alexander, as well as 10 grandchildren: Brandie Jones (Barry), Christie Jackson (Robert), Chad Jennings(Allison), Stephen Sloan Jr. (Bonnie), Donna Sloan, Larry Boles Jr. (Sandy), Bill Boles (Amy Sloat), Karl Stupka, Sam O'Brien, and Hannah O'Brien. Eight great-grandchildren also survive him and many loved nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends and family at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Dec. 15. The funeral will be at 2p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, at Germanton Baptist Church in Germanton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Germanton Baptist Youth Group, 6810 S. Germanton Road, Germanton, NC 27019.

Jean & Family - It has been a long time since we had a chance to visit. We are saddened by Mont's homegoing, but he was a pillar of the Hardin family, and I know that his long life was a tribute to his goodness and generosity. Please know that we share your grief and wish for you the Lord's blessing at this time. Sincerely - Zane Blevins family

Dear Jean and Family,
We are remembering Mont with love and affection. He was always so kind and willing to help us out when we were kids growing up in Ashe County.
God Bless! We love you.
Peace,

In my younger days (when I was known as "Junior"), Mister Hardin was my first Sunday School teacher at Lewisville Baptist Church and gave me my first Bible, a little pocket edition. He was not only a great Sunday School teacher and example but a very kind, gentle and honestly thoughtful person as well. The Lord has yet another "good and faithful servant." My condolences go out to his wonderful family. The world is a better place for him having been here.

I was so saddened to hear of the passing of my dear Uncle Mont, my mother's (Flora Hardin Newlin) brother. I remember him as a gentle soul and a loving and thoughtful man. My thoughts and prayers will be with my Aunt Jean, my cousins, and my Aunt Lois, Aunt Wanda and Uncle Ritz through this difficult time.

Martha, to you and all your family, we want to express our sincere sympathy in the death of your dad, "Mont". It seems only a short time ago that your family moved to the Lewisville area and we were all in school together. We trust that God will give your family the extra measure of comfort that you need in the days ahead. With love, the family of Tom and Edna Binkley- Lydia Binkley Wright, Clemmons; Tom Binkley, Cogan Station, Pennsylvania; and Leona Binkley Carruth, Amarillo, Texas.
