Harold Harris Obituary

Harold "Harry" Harris, age 77, of Smithville, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Wooster Community Hospital where his family was by his side following a battle of declining health.

His family will receive friends on Saturday, April 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Drive, Wooster, Ohio.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to: Hospice and Palliative Care of Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville Road, Wooster, Ohio 44691.

He was born on March 13, 1936, in Honaker, Va., to Curtis and Grace (Boyd) Harris.

He married Joyce Elizabeth Potts on December 21, 1962, and they celebrated 23 years of marriage together.

He graduated from Kent State University with a Masters Degree in Education.

He moved to Wayne County from Mount Vernon, Ohio, in 1972, and then taught welding at the Wayne County Schools Career Center in Smithville for both student and adult education for 10 years, and then as Trade and Industry Supervisor for another 20 years before retiring in 2000.

He was a member of the Wooster Elks Lodge; enjoyed Blue Grass music and collecting antiques; was an avid golfer and card player; enjoyed following NASCAR; Cincinnati Bengals, Ohio State Buckeye and Detroit Tigers fan. Most of all spending time with family and friends throughout the years.

He is survived by sons, Jeff Harris and Greg (Teresa) Harris all from Wooster, Ohio; daughters, Kathy Harris-Hutto of Massillon, Ohio; Karen (Marty) Schwan of McComb, Ohio; Kristina (Don) Rieman of Apple Creek, Ohio; and Kelli Harris-Washington of Wooster, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry Curtis (Leta) Harris of Camarillo, Calif., and Daniel McCoy (Sue) Harris of Mount Liberty, Ohio; sister, Joyce Annette Butler of Mount Vernon, Ohio; special friend, Rosemary Smucker of Smithville, Ohio; and his faithful Canine companion, "Brutus."

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant brother, Lewis Glenn Harris; other brothers, Jimmy Lee Harris and Roy Roger Harris; a sister, Darlis Jeanette Street.
