SIEBERT--Muriel, The Women's Forum of New York records with deep sorrow the death of our founding member and past president Muriel Siebert. The Founder and President of the discount brokerage firm that bears her name, Mickie was known as the "First Woman of Finance" for nearly 50 years. She was the first woman member of the New York Stock Exchange, the first woman to head one of its member firms and the first woman Superintendent of Banks for New York State. A true pioneer for women, Mickie made headlines when she shattered "male only" barriers at the NYSE by starting, owning and operating her own member firm- then trading as no woman had done before her, on the exchange floor. Mickie's passion to improve the financial literacy of young adults became a reality in 2004 when she originated a curriculum to teach personal finance to high school students. The Personal Finance Program: Taking Control of Your Financial Future is currently being used by numerous high schools to provide students with the fundamentals of personal finance. A true legend of the Women's Forum of New York, Mickie will be greatly missed. Doris P. Meister President Rita B. Crotty Executive Director

Although I never had the honor of meeting her, I worked as a temp at her West Palm Beach office during the website transition phase. It was during this short period of time that I saw how many loyal clients she had and came to appreciate her many achievements. Ms Seibert was truly an asset to the financial world and a pioneer for women in business. My condolences to all who knew and admired her.

Mickie was a supreme warrior - whether in business, politics, or issues in social/economic justice. She had a healthy admiration for the underdog and no qualms about tweaking the establishment when she felt they weren't fair. Sheila and Gary Brody

I worked for Mickie at the NYS Banking Department. She was a tiger, but fair. When I left, Mickie hosted me at lunch in Windows On the World and was concerned that my treatment at the NYSBD as only one of a very few women examiners may have caused my resignation (it did). She was a major force in the financial industry and for women's rights. Rest in peace, dear Mickie. You were a true role model for me.
