COVEY--Joy. The Board and Staff of NRDC mourn the loss of our beloved friend and trustee, Joy Covey. Joy was an intrepid traveler and true adventurer who worked tirelessly to help protect our oceans, wildlife and last wild places. Her indomitable spirit and her passion for nature were infectious to all who knew her. As NRDC's treasurer, Joy was a bold and brilliant financial leader who helped shape NRDC's financial vision to ensure we can carry out our mission. Joy embodied the values and spirit that drive our work, and her legacy will continue to inspire us. Our deepest sympathies go out to her son and everyone who knew, loved and respected her, as we did. Daniel R. Tishman, Chairman; Frances G. Beinecke, President; Peter Lehner, Executive Director; John H. Adams, Founding Director

Judy, I am so shocked and sad to finally hear of Joy's passing. My memory of her goes way back to her early years (5thgrade). Yes, awkward years. She was so intelligent and full of life. Later, I happened to see a story about her on the front of a magazine. I was quite impressed how much she had accomplished in her young life. Since that time I have been expecting to hear of her further accomplishments. So sad to find her life was cut short. Take care. Her spirit will always be remembered.

joy was my sister! we were so different in so many ways but i loved her so very much and admired her courageous spirit, always doing extreme sports and taking her wonderful son on exotic trips. they even rescued animals. tyler loved animals and is keenly intelligent, maybe even more so than his mother, if that's possible! he's in good hands, being raised by his father and stepmom in joy's house, to keep his life as undisrupted as possible. i miss her so and find it difficult to eat or sleep or stop crying. joy knew how much i loved her and always will. i hope she's with my father who died only 2 years ago. of all the people to die, joy was so young and fit and did so much for the environment. miss you sister!

I read the story about Joy Covey, I have never been so moved by a story and
what Joy had accomplished. I truly believe there should be a movie made with
her story. They look at woman as a minority and I don't agree.
Joy challenged her chosen professional career no differently then any person
would. She joined an enormous machine “Amazon” that has become an American
vision around the world. Joy was the team player with Jeff Bezos that I am sure
will never be forgotten.
Earth is whispering that Joy has left so much behind, she
will never be forgotten.
Be Well,
