Joseph O. "J.O." Lewis II

On the evening of October 19, 2015, Joseph Olin "J.O." Lewis II passed away after a yearlong battle with cancer. J. O. was surrounded by his family and close friend, Ken Duke. J.O. Lewis, age 67, was born on December 7, 1947 in Corpus Christi, Texas, where his love of the salt life began. After losing his father at age 11, his mom would drop him off at Oso Pier to fish through the night while she went to work her shift as a night nurse. Throughout his teens and young adult life, no matter where his career took him, he always made it back to the salt water to fish, reflect, and relax. It was only when he became a grandfather for the 1st time in 1995 did his fishing hobby become a close second to being a Papa. J.O. passed his love of the outdoors, from camping, hunting and fishing, down to each of his kids and grandkids. J.O. made quite a name for himself out on the water with his catches, but he never failed to pass along the importance of conservation and care for what the Lord provided. Being on the water was as much a spiritual experience as it was a hobby. J.O., along with his wife, Carolyn, while maintaining a home in San Antonio, was blessed to spend the majority of his retirement back in Corpus Christi on "the Island". J.O.'s all time favorite song was "Cool Change" by the Little River Band. The lyric "it's kind of a special feeling when you're out on the sea alone" best describes his time on the water - special. J.O. spent the majority of his career in Hospital Administration. He lived in Arlington, where his two children were born, Houston, Phoenix and San Antonio. After retiring from health care he taught business courses at Clark High School. J.O. met his bride of 46 years in Corpus Christi. They married on August 16, 1969. They had two children, Rebecca and Ryan. J.O. is survived by his wife, Carolyn Lewis; daughter, Becky Siller and husband, Chris; son, Ryan Lewis and wife, Adrienne; grandchildren, Alexandra, Camryn, Lilly, Mead and Brooks.
