Ethel Wells Obituary

Published by Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home on Nov. 1, 2015.
Ethel 'Clara' (Patton) Wells, age 82, a longtime resident of North Abington, MA, passed away on October 30, 2015 surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of the late Harry W. Wells for 52 years. Born, raised and educated in Noxen, PA, Mrs. Wells was the daughter of the late Oscar and Ethel Patton and a sister to the late Grace Keiper, Ruth Bennett and Franklin, Albert and Richard Patton. A graduate of Beaumont High School, she spent her early years working on her family's farm, roller skating with her beloved nieces and friends, and playing the accordion. Clara married her husband, Harry, in 1954 in Harvey's Lake, PA and moved to Massachusetts shortly thereafter. Clara was a valued employee of the Rockland Trust Company for over 20 years and prior to that served as a teacher and director of the former Rockland Christian Nursery School in the First Baptist Church. The center of her world, however, was always her family. She and Harry were the proud parents of Michael H. Wells and his wife Claudia of Chester, NH and Cindy L. Mullen and her husband Michael of Rockland, MA. She was also the devoted 'Gram' to her eight treasured grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Family always came first to Clara, whether it was here in Massachusetts, in New Hampshire, back home in northeast Pennsylvania or anywhere her children and grandchildren would be living. Clara loved cooking and baking, and she and Harry maintained the most warm, loving and welcoming home in their North Abington neighborhood, where they lived since 1969. She cherished hosting her renowned Christmas Eve family dinners and could so often be found baking cookies, pistachio bars or one of her various other signature recipes for her family. 'Gram', as she was known by many throughout the community, was always the biggest fan to her eight grandchildren. She was always there to root them on in countless Rockland sporting events, band concerts and community and political events. A woman of deep faith, Clara was also very supportive of the missionary and ministry work that two of her grandsons proudly continue. The family welcomes friends and relatives to celebrate her life on Wednesday November 4, 2015 at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street Rockland, from 5:00-8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 11:30 AM in the First Baptist Church of Rockland. Burial will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 311 Arsenal St. Watertown MA.
