Billy "Bill" Sayers

Billy "Bill" Joe Sayers, born October 18, 1929, in Grundy, Virginia passed away on November 26, 2015, at the age of 86. Bill is a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars where he served in the U.S. Army and was a recipient of the Purple Heart medal. He then joined the U.S. Airforce and retired after over 20 years of military service. After his retirement from the armed forces, he went on to obtain his Masters in History from the University of Texas at San Antonio and became a school teacher and coach at St. Martin Hall at Our Lady of the Lake University and numerous other middle & high schools in San Antonio, Texas. Those who knew Bill will remember him most for the love of his family, his humbleness, his historical war stories, and his love of sports. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, who will be dearly missed and never be forgotten. He is preceded in death by his parents Noah & Elsie Sayers. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary (Maureen) Elizabeth of 57 years, children James D. Sayers, William J. Sayers, Kevin M. Sayers & wife Angelina (Dina) Sayers, and Robert E. Sayers. Grandchildren, Eric M. Sayers, Kyle M. & wife Lesley L. Sayers and great-grandchildren, Tatum C. Sayers & Layne M. Sayers. He is also survived by his brother, David & Patty Sayers, sister, Jacqueline Sayers, nieces Nancy Pantusa and Maureen Pantusa. Visitation for family and friends will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at the Porter Loring North Mortuary at 1604 and Gold Canyon Road.
