Robert M. Ranson, 79, of 9440 Fenwick Rd., Owensboro, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2008 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Daviess Co., Ky. to the late Edgar and Eunice McFarland Ranson. He was a member of the Owensboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Pleasant Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Elba where he served as Elder, Sunday School teacher, and church treasurer. He was a member of the Monsarrat Masonic Lodge #379 F & AM in Panther for more than 50 years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was a 1st. Lieutenant and served with the 378th Battalion Combat Engineers. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Battle Combat Stars and the United Nation Service Medal. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and was a former teacher at West Louisville School. He retired from Texas Gas after 35 years of service. He was an avid U.K. basketball and St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
Survivors include his wife of nine years, Rev. Doris Adams Ranson, a stepdaughter, Nancy Middleton of Owensboro, two brothers, Harford and wife Emma Bell Ranson of Owensboro and Courtland Ranson and wife Elsie of Evansville, In., a sister, Elva Ranson of Owensboro, four nieces, Donna England of Normal. Ill., Becky Wolfe and Randa Sue Ranson, both of Evansville, and Sharon Sauer of Stanley, and several great nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 12, at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel. The committal service and burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Community Cemetery at Elba. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday and after 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home.
